"Not exactly scary stuff... but rather a type of energy generated when people encounter scary stuff. The feeling of fear is Fear. Basically." Sherry wasn't quite prepared for a full on lecture.
"Tell you what. Finish up your food, and then we'll head to the training grounds. We can go over summoning things there, and uh. Weapon basics." Sherry nodded and smiled.

Mimi soaked in every word, staring at Sherry with wide eyes. "Incroyable, I never knew..." It was kinda like the movie Monsters Inc., where the monsters used kids' screams to create power. Except, they used the screams to power themselves. It made her wonder if she'd be able to see this manifestation o fear. Perhaps with her hidden powers unlocked she could even see solidified fear!! There was a long sigh in her head.
"Ok!!" She all but stuffed the remainder of the roll into her mouth, chewing as fast as she could. Hooray, she was finally going to learn stuff!!

Sherry's head tilted just the slightest bit to the side. Sherry didn't know the word exactly, but she got the idea of it. "You'll learn a lot of things," she said, smiling encouragingly. There would be a lot of technical and good things to learn, too. Being a Hunter was a...whole life experience.
Armagnac was chuckling.
"Good!" Sherry proceeded to follow suit, making sure to eat a lot. Training was work.

It wasn't too much later that they were ambling down the path to the training grounds. "Now, the Island itself is usually pretty safe, but sometimes the fog gets thick, so be careful. Though it's been pleasant as of late," she said, smiling. "Be wary of the beasts...they tend to patrol the perimeters. And I don't really suggest swimming...at least not until you and your weapon work together a little better."
Sherry was doing a marvelous job of talking as she walked, excited now to be helping the Trainee learn.
"And this," she gestured to the building and the grounds beside it, "is the Training Grounds. We have an indoor ground and an outdoor, for whatever you think you need. People come down here to practice and spar, and don't worry, we have damage dampeners installed, so wounds don't get too bad. Nothing to be worried about."
She paused then, giving Mimi a moment to take it in.

Oh, she was so excited! She was finally going to learn how to be a warrior of justice, and wouldn't be a burden anymore. Hooray!! She followed closely behind Sherry, bouncing excitedly as she clutched her totem to her chest. Do you hear that, Dae-sama? We'll be training! That means you have to let me summon you!
Mimi nodded at every word, doing her best to understand what Sherry-senpai was teaching her. "Do we get to fight the monsters? Do you have to be a certain level before you can fight them? Is it the same with swimming?" Her mouth opened at the training grounds, bouncing excitedly. "Oooh, it's like a tutorial! And your HP replenishes after ahhh this is so neat!" She turned back to Sherry, still bouncing. "When do we get started, Sherry-senpai??"

"Technically we can be attacked at anytime, and the enemy doesn't really take experience, or a lack of it, into account. So being prepared is the best way to be. With swimming, well, I can almost assure you something out there is waiting to attack."
She had to smile at the enthusiasm the girl was showing. "Your health does return, but you still don't want to try and push it. As for starting," she said as she led them onto the grounds, "we can do that anytime."
With that, Sherry summoned her own weapon. There was a flash of light and then she was holding a glaive in her hand.

Mimi gasped. "A sneak attack! Quelle horreur!" Ahhh she was excited though. Enhanced healing! Just like Sayaka! It made her wonder what sort of other hidden skills she might unlock along the way.
Sherry's summoning earned her full attention, and he tried to follow suit, clasping her pendant totem tightly in her hands, trying to focus on positive happy thoughts. Summonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn <...What the jack are you doing.> Do fluffy bunnies and kitties not please you, Dae-sama?
Oh! Does that mean you'll-
There was a bright light, and Mimi let out a yelp as a sword popped out, fumbling with it before she dropped it. Oops.

Sherry did her best to hold back a grin. "It's okay, it can take some getting used to," she said, in response to the weapon being dropped. With a casual flair she hefted Armagnac onto her shoulder to rest while Mimi got the hang of holding onto her weapon.
"Is it too heavy? Because if that's the issue the more you work together the less you'll feel the weight. The more partners work together, the more they, uh, flow together. It's kind of like practicing." She was trying to figure out the best way to explain it.
"Here, pick it up and show me how you hold it."

Ahhhhh Sherry-senpai was so cool. Not only was she really pretty and smart, but strong too! That glaive looked heavy, but she wielded it like a pro. If only this sword wasn't so heavy she- <...Are you calling me FAT?> N-no! I just... haven't done much actual training, hehe. And I guess I'm more used to thin swords, like Sayaka's!
"N-no, it's fine!" she wasn't quite sure who she was responding to. "I-I can do it! Just lemme..." Mimi took a deep breath and hoisted the sword above her head, attempting to rest it on her shoulder like Sherry did. S-see? I can-" The weight of the sword pulled her back, and she fell, dropping the sword. "O-ow..."

Sherry took a couple steps forward on instinct. "Are you alright?" She surveyed the situation for a moment, shifting Armagnac off her shoulder and resting the butt of the glaive on the ground. "Why don't we start with just...pick the sword up, simple like? Um, just... holding it in front of you...two handed but not up over your head or anything." It had totally looked like Mimi had tried to hoist it up high, ok. "Just take it easy... you'll get the hang of it."

Pushing herself up, Mimi nodded, and tried again, picking the sword up with both hands. Gripping the handle firmly, she lifted it up until it was off the ground, and beamed. "I did it! I did it!" Now she just had to hold the position...

"Excellent!" Sherry gave the girl her brightest grin. "Now..." There were two ways they could go with this. It was clear Mimi needed much more practice with her weapon, so...
"Why don't you desummon, and then summon again? You have to be able to summon without dropping." Really. Sherry could just imagine the millions of bad things that would happen if a hunter dropped their weapon after summoning.

Oh no, she disappointed Sherry-senpai. Mimi bit her lip and looked down at the sword. OK, she could do this, just concentrate and...
The sword emitted a soft glow, and then retracted into the shape of a oval pendant. Now, to summon again, she had to... Squeezing her eyes shut, she concentrated, and with a flash of light, it was re-summoned. She fumbled slightly at the change, but managed to keep a firm grasp on her weapon without dropping it.
A moment or two passed in silence, and then she let out a deep sigh, not realizing she had been holding her breath. She then turned to Sherry with an excited look on her face. "I did it, Sherry-san, I did it!!"

"See! It's not so hard!" Sherry clapped around her own weapon.
"Ok. Now. You need to get used to it, but we'll hold off on summoning at the moment. Also need to practice swinging your blade. And using it defensively but that can come next." Sherry wasn't sure if that was the best order, but it had worked for her.
"So, you have a choice. You can swing at me, or at the training dummy. You can't hurt me, really, so don't let that sway your decision." Sherry was pretty sure she could defend herself from a rookie sword swing.

The voice in her head was spiteful.
I-I can't! Sherry nee-san has been really helpful and she's teaching me so much! B-Besides, I'm still learning and-
...
She let out a heavy sigh, but then turned towards Sherry, an uneasy smile on her face. "Is it ok if we spar?"GrnGriff Her muse has returned ; u ;

Sherry smiled. "Perfectly fine!" Really, with the dampeners on the grounds, there wasn't much of anyone getting hurt, so there was nothing keeping them from getting started. It would probably be better for Mimi in the long run, anyway. Fight or die. That's how it went.
"Let me know when you are ready."
