Tuck was on high alert. Every time one of the others paused, he paused too - there was no ******** way he was going to keep moving without everyone staying together as a group. He eyed Cain as the other hunter nudged a doll with his foot, and he watched Noah as he gathered a sample of maggots, and he watched Peyton pause as she caught sight of a doll that hung from a string.

It felt like everywhere he stepped there was another doll's eye underfoot.

He remained silent, ever-watchful, constantly alert. No way in hell was this going south -- or so he liked to tell himself.

Noticing the other life trainee Cain started slowly towards him, nodding at the mention of the dolls. Watching him collect the maggots and seem thrilled about it had him questioning if he was in the right division. "Maybe..." He commented to the idea of something being inside, squinting a little and trying to lean in close enough to peer through an eye socket of one of the newer dolls.

Hearing Peyton's theory he frowned, taking in a deep inhale to see if there was any strange smells he had missed due to nerves, smells like rotten flesh or decay. Nothing seemed to be coming through though a distracting knocking of doll body parts had startled him into moving, which sent him closer towards the group and further down the path. While he wasn't particularly creeped out by the dolls, there was no way in hell he was ending up alone in the middle of nowhere.

Yet another crunch brought his attention quickly to Tuck, the one in the group he had wandered closer too, bending on a frown he asked rather bluntly, "what the hell do you keep stepping on?" It might be worth while to figure out what was below them after all. In his crouched position he eyed the shattered eye, then moved to pull a vial from his belt holder and scoot the remains and a whole eye down the tube before closing it. Maybe there was something more to the eyes, they had all gone missing after all.

Standing again a hand was pushed through his hair, glance directed back to the sun in charge, it was then he noticed the point and followed the finger to the hanging doll.

Well, s**t.

That couldn't be good.

The dolls rattling together sounded like wooden windchimes, a clinking and tapping with a dull resonance, all the more unsettling for the almost-musical sound in the eerie, almost-deserted forest. Noah stayed close to the others, even though the temptation to explore various interesting trails and stop to examine the differences between dolls was excruciating. Be professional, he reminded himself.

Laz made a pointed yawning sound, though the weapon stayed alert, watching just as intently through Noah's eyes.

"What did you find?" he asked as Cain bent to gather up a sample, stepping closer with eager curiosity. Peyton's call distracted him, and he turned to look in the direction she was pointing. The resemblance struck him silent for a few seconds, and his eyebrows crinkled into a worried frown. Then something occurred to him, and his frown relaxed slightly. "If the dolls are imitating us, the missing people can't have just been turned into dolls," he reasoned. "We're still here, even though that one looks like you. Maybe they respond to human presence, like some kind of mirror or mimic? It could be a threat or warning, but it's not a direct transformation."

A flash of orange in his peripheral vision caught his eye, and he turned to look, anticipating what he was about to see. "Look," he said, and pointed, "there's one of me. It doesn't have eyes either." He studied the doll, then looked around at the other dolls that hung nearby. "The older ones, the ones that are rotting, they've got eyes," he observed. "It's just the new ones that don't, and it's the new ones that are starting to copy us. Do you think that means that they get eyes if the subject they're mimicking is dead?"

Quote:
61 - 80: The wind begins to pick up, as the dolls begin to stir and move, as if with a life of their own. All seems okay until - you see a new addition to the lineup of dolls. Is that a doll of YOU? It is also missing its eyes.

[I AM SO SORRY GUYS! Let's do this thing! Last couple prompts. /game face]

Quote:
You notice a cabin deeper on the island. Inside is a small den, a few rooms, and a statue of a wolf head, creepily enough. The trap door in the center will not open but you can hear a music coming from underneath...

Noah was way too calm about the look-a-like doll. Or so Peyton felt. She Stared at the little mimic, tense and uneasy, before he pointed towards another. This one looked like him, and she did not share his curiosity. No, that sense of dread only increased as he thought out loud, tried to make sense of what was going on. "I don't know, but it's really ******** creepy."

Keeping an eye on the dolls, She started moving down the path again. There was a cabin, door hanging off the hinges, and she lead the team towards it, slowly. "Stay on alert," she cautioned, slipping past through the door and into the dimness within. It was dust filled, broken down and abandoned, and it reminded Peyton of a good number of horror movies she'd seen over the years. "Quaint..."

A lingering stare landed on a mounted wolf's head, then she was tripping over the handle of a trap door sticking out of the middle of the floor. Catching her balance, Peyton singled for the other's to come closer, then bent, wrapping her hands around the handle. "Is that music?" She tugged.

Nothing happened.

She tugged again, putting her muscle into it, and all at once the floor boards beneath her gave a threatening crack. "s**t."

Another crack, then the hiss of gas creeping up from the floor beneath them. "Scarfs up!"

Quote:
BOSS ENCOUNTER:
- As you continue walking down you hear a large crack, followed by another. A strange gas explodes from underneath, making you extremely dizzy, as you cough to figure out what is going on, fighting for air now. You have exposed your entire team to a hallucinogen, making everything more terrifying than ever as your vision swims and hops uncontrollably and your hearing becomes muted. Something creaks, groans, lurches underneath you, but is that your imagination?

- BOSS MECHANICS: This boss is a mob that has collective 100 HP. Every time you attack it (following the general battle rules), you TAKE 8 damage. AS you can't really see the boss, most of it will have to be dependent on what you can see, if anything at all, from strange faceless figures lurching, half-hopping towards you to the smiling dead coming back and swiping at you. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back.

Tuck immediately lifted his scarf to cover his mouth and nose. It seemed to cut the effect of the gas by a margin (visions of a similar mission were ever-present).

He swung his axe at the nearest thing he could reach - a lurching, sickly-looking doll that got close enough to scrape its claws down his arm before the weapon caught it at the neck. It sank back into the writhing mass, and Tuck grunted softly as he glanced around at everyone else.

"Stay close. Stay close."

The hissing had hands moving on automatic, which was just about the time Peyton called for scarfs up. Maybe it was useful after all, the scarf covered his nose, thick and warming while cutting down on some of the gas. Even as soon as they had got them up and as thick as it was, some gas seeped through causing the life trainee to shiver.

He was scared but that didn't stop him from clutching the pole arm in his hand and taking a swing at the nearest figure that lurched towards them. Tuck called and Cain closed in, not enough to be accidentally hit by the others weapons but close enough. There was no way in hell he was getting separated.

The house was a a new and fascinating distraction, and Noah itched to explore it, catalog the contents of each room, but he'd promised to stay with the group. He was peering with interest at the wolf's-head trophy when the sharp crack heralded the arrival of a billowing cloud of smoke, or was it gas? He pulled his scarf up over his nose and mouth hastily, but either he'd been too slow or the stuff wasn't appreciably filtered by fabric, because he could feel his airway burning with irritation already. He coughed and reeled back a few steps.

The wolf's head seemed to come to life in front of him with a grotesque snarl and a snap of its jaws. Laz materialized in his hand without conscious thought, and he swung wildly at the thing, missing entirely.

As quick as the scarf had come up, it wasn't quick enough. Peyton coughed, tried to breath shallow, and gave up when it became obvious that that wasn't possible. Whatever the fog, or gas, was it burned going down, and she could feel her head going fuzzy. Movement felt odd, the house around her seemed to be breathing It was disconcerting as hell.

Then something lurched from the dark, a faceless form grabbing for her hair, and she gave a little yelp as she made a wild slash at it. Hitting, barely, but enough to drive whatever it was back. Effective, but not terribly impressive.

There were more barked orders this time around, they all knew the drill. Keep close, fight, defend. Even with the fog, they weren't in an awful position yet, they just had to stay alert. As much as was possible with the fog ******** with their heads.

Tuck growled softly to himself and swung the axe again, his brow furrowed with concentration. He didn't pay attention to what he was swinging at, exactly, because he was too busy paying attention to the rest of the party. When it hit, the mob hit hard, and he would defend whoever needed his aid.

"Speak up if you need defending," the Moon ordered softly. "I'm pretty good at that s**t."

Whatever was seeping past his scarf was doing a number on his mind. Stumbling a little as a faceless enemy lunged at him Cain swing his weapon. The motion of which nearly knocked him on his a** thanks to his foggy brain. "********.." The curse was muttered under breath as violet eyes took in how well the rest of the team was doing.

Maybe trying a mission wasn't his brightest idea.

Soft laughter seemed to echo from all around him, and Noah turned this way and that, coughing until his eyes watered. "Where is it?" he managed when he could catch a breath of air. "Is it real?"

A jointed thing wobbled toward him out of a darkened doorway, and he swung at it. It dissolved as Laz passed through it, and the weapon snarled low and wetly with frustration. HIT SOMETHING, he demanded.

I'm trying!

Her team was being whittled away at by an unseen adversary. Peyton's lips peeled back in a frustrated snarl behind the cover of her scarf, small hands tightening on the ringed hilts of her daggers. Anger was rising up to banish the fear, and though it did nothing to clear her head, it did take away any lingering hesitation.

Voice coming in a growl, she spun on the spot, eyes landing on the shadow of something large and foreboding, and as a wicked looking claw emerged from the void of fog to tear at her arm she lunged forward, slicing deep tracks into unseen flesh.
