“Protest Noted” Grinned Zac, glancing over at Ever he added. “…Not sure about the give a damn levels from our esteemed leader though.” He teased. He grew much more serious though when she actually found something, skidding back into the hall way with enough speed he worried she was about to become one with the well polished and abused linoleum. “…welllll… I’d say we found our monster.” He intoned dryly. -- The next day he sat examining the notebook, casting an occasional glance at the student who was apparently their target. The things she’d written made him shake his head. She might have been trying to study humans, but she was doing it through one heck of a skewed lens of the world. Maybe he shouldn’t be surprised, she wasn’t human after all, he wasn’t even sure it could truly be called a ‘she’. //Be nice// was the scolding retort from Remiel in the back of his mind, and he amended that thought because she felt that she was a girl, or…ghoul she kept saying. Occasionally he’d point out something to Peyton, tipping the page so she could read more clearly. What looks he gave after that to the girl weren’t…unkind, He didn’t want to call more attention than he had to what with a teacher already on his back about ‘rubbernecking’. He even offered up a small ‘cool guy’ wave to the ‘ghoul’ that he’d NEVER have been able to pull off when he was still in school. He wasn’t entirely sure he’d pulled it off now but he did have the advantage of ‘accent’, and ‘exotic with tattoos’ in ‘American high school’.

It was his game, really, so Ever would take the step -- calling her to his desk when the bell rang, and then Zac's. Almost absently, he nodded the young man to the door, so he could close it and keep away prying eyes and ears, nosy busybodies in the hallway. Through the window, briefly, their belligerent young man's face appeared, curious and annoyed both. Ever drove him off with a mocking finger-across-throat gesture before focusing on their new prey, who didn't quite have the sense to fear them. Not yet. "We got your notebook." He offered it easily, with a nod toward the A-marked book in Zac's possession. As she took it in, uncertainty started to creep back into her expression. "Um, that's not mine." It was too quick, though, and Ever shook his head. They could open it to where her name was scrawled, and she blinked. "It's, um, it's a story." Again, immediate, rehearsed perhaps. Ever shook his head and looked to Peyton, then back to the ghoul. "We know it's not. We know what you are. Talk, and quick. Start with the missing student." It was only a moment before she did: more out of anger than fear, because she hadn't stolen any students or driven them away. She was only there to study and would never harm any poor harmless students. Somewhere along the way she was going to steal her notebook back to fish DETH badges out of the back, to give to them. And she just wouldn't stop. She kept going on and on about the organization, the importance of their work, and how precious humans were until Ever's eyes about crossed. beejoux seriously, guys, feel free to control her or whatever XD

Tension began to crawl up Peyton's shoulders as she watched the clock counting down the last five minutes of class. She heard Ever call the girl's name, requesting she stay after for a few minutes, and when the rest of the students had filtered out Zac very quietly closed the door behind them. This left them alone with the...whatever she was. It was impossible to tell, she looked human. While Ever questioned her about the book and her motives Peyton stood back and did her best to look menacing. Something that wasn't all that easy when you were only 4'10", but she managed, fingers idly turning the bands on her thumbs as she resisted the urge to summon. In the Sun's experience, creatures of Halloween were aggressive and dangerous. This girl appeared to be sympathetic and naive. It left Peyton in a very uncomfortable position where instinct said one thing, and personal morals screamed enough. She knew what Caelius would have ordered, hell, she knew what a good number of their leads would have ordered, but as the girl started rattling off about DETH she just didn't want to hurt her. Not yet. Not unless she did anything to threaten the two men she was tasked to protect. At a certain point in the rambling Peyton slid up beside ever and rose on her tip toes to murmur up to him. "I don't think this things responsible for the missing student." The monster girl shot her a hard look, lips pouting in annoyance at being referred to as a thing. Whatever, Peyton had a bias, most hunters did. "What do you want to do here, Ever?" Pale brows lofted. This was his show, even if she out ranked him. The choice of what to do was ultimately his, and she was going to follow it. Whether she agreed with it or not.

“…Anyone else reminded of Luna Lovegood?” Zac asked after a moment. The look the student gave him was at first confused and then delighted as she exclaimed that she knew what he meant, then looked slightly miffed. “Wasn’t she a bit odd though? I’m not odd!! I blended in really well before you turned up!” She said stomping her foot and then added as an almost sulky after thought. “Though I really did like her hat.” He touched his bracelet carefully, glancing towards Ever for the orders on what to do, waiting for Ever to be the one to pull the verbal trigger on ‘if you didn’t do it, who did.’, because after all it was his mission.

"I don't --" There was a pause, considering, and then he reached out to grab the notebook from Zac -- flipping through the notes quickly, in search of something telling. He'd find it, after not too long. The first day the ghoul had been around, her first notes about the humans' strange summer school, their ritual of forced learning, the cigarettes the delinquents smoked that smelled funny and she didn't dare try, the rope in JIM class -- And he paused, finger on the date. "The kid disappeared before this." He looked up at Peyton as he said it, baffled himself. "What do we do with a hostile who's not terribly hostile?"

Zac shook his head slowly from side to side. “Your mission, your call?” He said cautiously… he glanced down at his bracelet and then over at Peyton, turning it to show it off. “Eh?” He said carefully. He was trying rather discretely to suggest that weapons had to come from somewhere, but the idea of trying to force the issue, for a…creature that seemed so, non violent or troublesome seemed like putting a gun to the head of a toddler. It could be a trick, he knew that, but he couldn’t quite get his head around trying to force it, maybe they could just…suggest it. “…Or…you know, tell her, it…her… to go…’Home’?”

Presented with new evidence it was now even harder to decide what the best course of action was. They could try to talk her into going home, but she'd probably just come back once they were gone. They could eliminate her, but that seemed incredibly cold, considering she hadn't so much as scowled at them, even when she was frustrated. Maybe they could get her to come back to the island? Didn't...didn't they invite peaceful creatures of Halloween back in the hopes that they were good candidates for weaponization? Frowning, she sent an inquisitive thought out to Warrick, asking got his advice on this on, and he came back to her, a supportive and reassuring weight at the back of her mind. "Do you want to come with us? Talk to more humans?" They had to volunteer, she reminded herself. The bond wouldn't be as strong, as compatible, if it wasn't a willing process. If she didn't want to go through with it, they'd take her back to Halloween, right? She'd been looking rather worriedly between the three of them, hands wringing as she waited to see what would happen to her, but at Peyton's suggestion she perked up immediately. "Oh! Yes I would!" Well, she supposed that settled that. A tight lipped smile was offered to the monster girl, and Peyton reached through that link she had with her weapon, all but clinging to him, hoping she was making the right call here. "What do you think, Ever?"

He thought that Amory was whispering in the back of his head, enough to about give him a headache: and so Ever rubbed at his eyes while he thought about it. Obviously his weapon didn't think it was a very good idea, but when he looked up at saw the look on the ghoul's face, Ever blew out a slow sigh. She looked so excited, that it couldn't be bad. "...yeah. Sure." He shook his head at Peyton as he stood, offering her the notebook again. "I guess I should tell someone we're leaving. Or I guess we could just disappear..."

“Vanish like the student?” Zac said arching an eyebrow. “Though at least we might…be rumored as ghosts, which would be a bit ironic I admit.” He added with a sideways glance at the surprisingly enthusiastic girl… ghoul? “… Maybe those girls will miss you though.” He added with a small half stifled smile. “…. Seemed pretty hot for teacher. But it’s your call boss.”

Peyton took the notebook as it was handed to her, tucking it into her bag before situating it on her shoulder once again. "I don't care how we handle it, I'm just ready to go home." She missed the island(Ironically), and she missed Noah, and sleeping in her own bed. She'd had nothing but nightmares since they'd arrived, and she was ready for a good night sleep. She did smirk as Zac ribbed the taller man. "I told you so." And again the song started up in her head.

Then they could take the girl with them: deliver her into Life Labs's hands, and leave a bunch of kids wondering what the hell had happened to the fun French teacher, when he was replaced by a stuffy older woman. Maybe they hadn't found the missing student, but maybe that was entirely innocent: a troublemaker anyway, maybe she'd simply run off with her older boyfriend. At least Peyton got to learn a bit about Ever's extensive holiday boxer collection...

A nice, simple, safe mission had been a real relief after the whole zombie fiasco from a few days before. Peyton had, more or less, enjoyed herself. She got along pretty well with Ever, and Zac was a fellow Sun and genuinely nice guy. The mission had gone off without a hitch, it was weird, but she wasn't complaining. She had seen way more of Ever than she ever cared too. That man was far too comfortable in his own skin for Peyton's comfort, but at least she'd had a bed to herself, rather than having to share, or sleep on the floor.

For all that he was a nice guy, they both got to learn, or at least re-confirm that English was clearly not Zac’s only language, because the site of the Holiday boxers had him shaking his head, laughing, and saying something in what certain people (Otto) had referred to as “Doctor Seuss talk”. Thankfully he wasn’t quite that comfortable in his own skin.
