He liked her teasing tone. Somehow it managed to let him in on the joke instead of coming across as her just laughign at him. But... burnt carrots? How on earth did one burn carrots? Rather than ask, Kekipi nodded sagely and hid his smile by taking a sip of latte.

"I think we'll be safe enough if I just have you chop veggies. Unless you're prone to cutting yourself up?"

Hey, it was a valid concern! Dinner dates weren't exactly the right kind of memorable if half the time was being spent in the ER getting stitches.

"Hey, never underestimate the power of ordering takeout," he said. "Every time I try I get the one person in the place with an indecipherable accent and end up with weird s**t that I never wanted. And I'm way too laid back to ever really try to get the order fixed. This is why I keep a stock of dry cereal in the house."

"I'm handy with a knife.." At least she didn't cut herself at all. Her chopping left things to be desired, but if it was just going into a dish with other things it'd be fine. Yuki pushed her bangs out of her face a little more before nodding.

He was a smart man to praise her take out skills. It wasn't everyone who could pick up a phone and order like she did. "That's because you're a bad person." Again, her tone was teasing and she slowed her walking. She finally took notice of where they were and she looked a little lost and out of place. "...Where were we going? Or was it just a walk?" She was trying to recall a destination but it just wasn't coming to her. "Not that I mind this walk, I just.. Don't get out into the city often."

Smiling a little at her quip, Kekipi thought it was just as well that she didn't know how true that assessment was. He slowed his own pace to match hers and blinked in momentary confusion. Glancing around, he glanced down at his watch and cursed very quietly under his breath.

"Damn it, I'm so sorry, Yuki. I've been heading to work and I lost track of time. I guess I was enjoying our conversation that much."

He smiled apologetically to her and seemed to think for a minute.

"I have to hurry so I won't be late for my shift at the shop, but how about I give you my number and we can talk later and set up that dinner date?"

Date.

The word hadn't registered until now and she realized she had no idea what she was doing. Still, she ducked her head and nodded, grabbing her phone out of her pocket. As she handed it over, Yuki toyed with her fingers a moment, just watching the taller one.

"There's no need to apologize, I just.." Well she'd ruined the moment, that's what she'd done. "It's no trouble to me. So.. I'll just send you a text with my number and you can let me know when you're free?" She wasn't going to mention she was free most of the time, because that would be embarrassing. Plus, if she had to set it up, she would probably be in complete freak out mode because she wasn't used to flirting, or dates, or any kind of friendships, really. Her life had been so solitary until now.

Juggling cup and phone, Kekipi quickly set up an address book entry for himself, grinning a little as he handed the phone back.

"Sure, that works. I'll probably have some downtime between clients today, so I won't take too long to get back to you. To be completely honest, outside of work, I have way too much downtime on my hands. So this'll give me something to look forward to."

He stood there for a moment, seemingly debating what he should do next. A hug seemed far too casual for someone he'd just met. And a handshake seemed way to damn formal and stuffy. After a moment's thought, he seemed to decide on a strange blend of the two and reached out to give her shoulder a friendly squeeze before grinning and waving.

"I'll talk to you later Yuki," he said as he hurried towards the row of shops that were just a couple of blocks up. "It was great meeting you!"

With a last wave, he turned and dashed, not wanting to be late for his first client of the day.

Yuki watched him, watching how nimble his fingers were and then realized she was actually staring at them. So she diverted her eyes before looking up at him when he spoke.

"Oh? That's..." Unfotunate? Good? She might as well drop it and just gave something of a helpless look. Her limit to social interaction was coming up quickly, apparently. She took her phone back and slipped it into her purse again before smiling at the squeeze to her shoulder. That was good. Yuki was fretting about how that would go but shoulder touching wasn't ambiguous to anything but friendliness. Good.

"You too. I'll send you that text soon..."

And then he was off and Yuki was left feeling slightly anxious and confused before she turned around to figure out what she had to do today.
