Tenzin and Damian

Tenzin liked the sound of Leilani's laughter, but it didn't last for as long as he would've liked. When her giggles subsided, he noticed her frown, and she became rather silent. He would've asked her what was wrong, but he didn't want to interrupt her if she was thinking of something important, or if he had offended her in some fashion.

Soon enough, she spoke again, thanking him for the compliment, and calling him good in return. She quieted again, as a wind blew through the trees, and Tenzin raised his head, feeling his mane shift in the breeze. It was comforting as always, and he let out a contented sigh. The forest was such a pleasant environment, and he loved it so.

When Leilani suddenly apologized for keeping him from meeting with Damian, he smiled and shook his head.

"You needn't apologize, Leilani. I quite enjoy your company, and Damian can handle himself on his own. Besides, he might need this extra time to clean himself up. I hear that hunting can be messy business." He remarked, before nodding towards the path ahead. "If you see any herbs along the way, we'll stop of course. Just let me know first, alright? I shouldn't like to accidentally lose you in these woods." It was with playful eyes that he said this, for he would hardly be likely to leave the side of this pretty mare.

When they had finally set of in the direction of the meeting place that Tenzin and Damian had agreed upon, Tenzin took care to check back in with Leilani often, making sure that she was alright during the journey. However, after he was certain that she was managing well, he became more focused on the task at hoof: finding his familiar.

They were getting close to the meeting place, when Tenzin heard a the sound of fast paw-steps, which was soon accompanied by a happy bark of, "Tenzin!" It would seem that they found Damian at last.

Damian was normally a calm and relaxed wolf, but after a refreshing hunt, he was always rather energetic. After all, traveling with an herbivore when your instincts are telling you to eat meat, isn't always the easiest thing. He'd survived on berries and various flavored grasses, but they were never as satisfying as crunching a mouse between your teeth, or pulling flesh off of a rabbit. Still, in his spirited state of being, he was still able to identify strangers, though he took a more friendly outlook to them, then one of suspicion like he may've on an emptier stomach.

Poking his head around Tenzin's large hooves, he looked up at the other Soquili, and her odd companion who rode on her rump. He smiled up at the mare and the snake, his eyes open and friendly,
"Friends of yours, Tenzin?" He asked his bonded, looking to Tenzin, who smiled and nodded towards the others. It seemed as though his stallion was giving the mare a chance to introduce herself, but he wanted to introduce himself first! "Hello, hello!" He barked at the two of them, "My name is Damian, I'm Tenzin's familiar! Though, you must've figured out that last bit." He said, giving an open smile, white and red teeth flashing from the recent hunt.

Wasteland Wyvern
I'm very happy to hear all of that. As for Damian, well... Damian can definitely be aggressive when he wants to be, and if someone, Soquili or snake, tries to push around Tenzin, he can become significantly less friendly than normal. I feel like Ehren might have a hard time scaring off Tenzin with Damian around. x3

She looked all about herself as they walked but sadly didn't see any herbs that would help in her art, but still there was nothing wrong with enjoying the walk. She looked at Tenzin and smiled shyly. She'd never been so friendly or open with a stallion before, especially not after the brothers. Those silly stallions.
She heard him before she saw him, the little grey, white, and black wolf with lovely red markings, but it was his excitement that made her smile. He was so happy sounding.
She looked down at him and lowered her head so she was nose to nose with him then executed the self same bow she had for Tenzin. Her wings spread wide for balance, "Its very nice to meet you Damian. I am called Leilani. Its a pleasure to meet you." She was always respectful of familiars treating them as no less than the Soquili they were bonded with. Tenzin had her respect so of course so did Damian.

Ehren slithered up Leilani's back, still indignant over realizing what Tenzin wanted of Leilani, and wrapped himself around her neck. Then he unwound enough so he was hanging just in front of the wolf, his black tipped tongue forking in and out. "Greetingsss wolf. I am Ehren, Leilani'sss familiar. A pleasssure, I'm ssssure." He was being mocking again and did not fear reprimand. He was in no mood to care how he acted at this time.

belloblossom
This should be rather fun then cause Ehren is going to try his hardest to run Tenzin off. Though what a snake can do in that regards I am sure not even he knows! Lol.

Tenzin and Damian

Tenzin was happy to see that Leilani and Damian seemed to get along, but as usual, Ehren was causing Tenzin come discomfort. While the snake may've hidden his displeasure during his introduction to Tenzin, his introduction with Damian was much more snide in tone. The serpent was lucky that Damian was not an aggressive wolf, nor was he hungry for meat anymore, else the snake might've been in individual bite-size pieces. Lucky for Damian too, actually, as Tenzin wasn't sure if Ehren was or wasn't poisonous.

Damian was quite impressed with the mare's bowing expertise, and tried to mimic her, but instead of bowing, he sat up and with a fair amount of balance, he tucked in his two front paws, looking up at the mare.
"A pleasure indeed, Leilani!" He replied, his ears perked and alert. When the Leilani's familiar introduced himself, Damian returned to his four paws, standing tall in the face of the snake. He had never been particularly fond of snakes, and he could smell the condescension of this serpent as he spoke down to Damian.

Well, that wouldn't do, not in the slightest. Damian may not be aggressive, but he did have pride in himself, and even more towards his Soquili companion. If this snake was going to be a brat the entire time Damian was in his company, he was going to have to teach the cold-blooded creature some manners.

With these thoughts in mind, Damian thrust his nose up towards Ehren's, bumping his nose into the snake's before withdrawing and saying in a cheerful tone, "I'm thrilled to meet another familiar such as yourself, Ehren. I'm sure there will be much we can learn about each other."

When then introductions between Damian and Tenzin's newer companions had been made, Tenzin turned to his familiar to explain the situation at hoof. "Leilani is a traveling healer, Damian. I've offered to escort her about the forest, so that she may look for any herbs that she may use in her healing. Much to my delight, she's accepted my proposal, and we will be traveling with her for a while." Said the stallion, and his ever-supportive familiar nodded at him, and then smiled at Leilani.

Now, looking back to Leilani, Tenzin said,
"Now, Leilani, if you're ready, I'll show you to the first location that comes to mind. It's not very far from here, but it's deeper into the woods." He explained to the mare, not wanting to surprise her with the direction they were headed in, "The trees grow more closely together further in and the road will get a little uneven, so you'll want to stick close to me, alright?"

Wasteland Wyvern
I'd wonder about a snakebite, as rattlesnakes are venomous, but as Leilani is a healer, I'm not sure effective that would be. xD
But, yes, I agree. This shall be fun!

Leilani glared down at Ehren wondering why he was acting so badly. When she had time alone with him she intended to ask him what his issue with Tenzin and Damian was exactly. He hadn't been quite terrible upon meeting Tenzin but as soon as Damian showed up the snake had become condescending and had talked down to Damian. "Thank you for your assistance in my task to gather herbs. Company is always welcome during such tedious tasks! Especially the company of two such gentlemanly persons." She was flattering them slightly but truly meant each word.

User Image

Ehren stared at the wolf wondering if he shouldn't continue with his current tone of voice but he caught sight of the wolf's rather sharp teeth and had no interest in testing his temper. "Hmm, indeed it is Damian. I think we will learn an awful lot about each other..." He curled himself back up and wrapped firmly around Leilani's neck. After that he hid his head in her long hair and pretended not to care anymore.

Tenzin and Damian

Tenzin felt himself warm at Leilani's compliments, though whether it was with pride or embarrassment he didn't know. He ducked his head slightly and gave a smile.
"It is my pleasure, Leilani, truly." He replied.

As Ehren had slipped more firmly around Leilani's neck, Damian seemed to relax a touch. Noting that both parties were ready to move out, Tenzin turned around, stepping to the side in order to allow the mare to wake beside him for a time. As he had mentioned earlier, the path would get more and more narrow as they got deeper into the forest, but he wouldn't mention that again until it occurred ahead.

"Let us progress forward, then." He said to Leilani, confirming that they were to start walking. He was more comfortable in the knowledge that everyone was on the same page, even when it had just been him and Damian before.

With a final nod, he walked off towards the path that would lead further into the depths of the forest. The location he was headed towards was a medium-sized clearing, that was surrounded by maple trees. Here many smaller critters, like mice, bees and songbirds, could be found. The bees were attracted to the patches of flowers in the clearing. Whether all of these were flowers, or some of them were herbs that had blossoms, Tenzin didn't know. However, when Leilani had mentioned that she was seeking herbs, that had been the first place he'd thought of.

As they continued, he would occasionally glance at Leilani to make sure if she was alright. He had a larger stride than she did, being so much bigger, so he took care to slow his pace whenever it looked like she was struggling to keep up. Damian trotted on his other side, but it seemed that the wolf was also often checking up on their companions, or more specifically, at Ehren.

"We're almost there." He remarked, when he saw a familiar stump ahead.

Leilani fell into step with Tenzin and Damian easily keeping up with the two. Constant traveling gave her a lean muscled form and while her body was small and petite she was almost inexhaustible. At time though she did need to trot a bit to catch up to his larger stride but that wasn't much of an issue. Though the journey was a bit quiet for her liking so she started to talk, "This area is absolutely beautiful Tenzin. How did you come to this place? Or were you born here?" She was curious of him and his past and should he choose to ask she would share her own.

User Image

Ehren listened as Leilani prattled on. Asking this and that of the larger stallion. Oh how he ached to add his own opinions of the unlikely pair. A wolf and a soquili! How absurd! A snake makes for a much better companion. He shifted himself a bit so he was more comfortable hiding in her mane. Someday he would find a way to get back at that wolf for making him feel inferior. He just wasn't sure how.

Tenzin and Damian

Tenzin wasn't used to conversation while walking, but he wasn't opposed to it either. So, when Leilani spoke to him as they traveled, he went along with it, and tried not to halt while he was talking, though he was sorely tempted out of habit.

"I was born within the deeper parts of this forest." He replied, and then he paused for he didn't know how much Leilani wanted to hear. He decided that there was no harm in being honest, especially not with this mare, so he went on. "My father was the one who raised me; my mother left as soon as I tumbled out of my basket. I couldn't keep up with her, and my father was too kind to leave me on my own. So, he stayed with me for a bit, watching as I grew into my strength and assisting me where he could. He was also a large stallion, so he taught me much on how to utilize my... Well, I guess you could call it brute force?" Tenzin shrugged.

"Overall, he didn't really stick around very long either. I was still a colt when he decided I was able to look after myself." The stallion sighed, blinking away memories of the past, and substituting them for happy ones, "At first, I just took to exploring the forest, but it wasn't long after I had grown into my natural size, the one you see now, that I took the time to explore the rest of the Western area. I didn't even know that it was the west until I found Damian, who told me about the rest of the world. How lucky I was to find such a knowledgeable companions." He said with a contented hum at the end, glancing down at the wolf who jogged beside him.

He glanced back at Leilani, giving her a warm smile. Talking about his past wasn't difficult per say, but he hadn't really had anyone to listen. There was Damian, of course, but Damian had his own family troubles and Tenzin didn't want to seem inconsiderate. He turned his gaze back onto the path at hoof, and then he asked, "If you don't mind me prying, what was your own foalhood like? Where did you grow up?"

Leilani listened intently as he told her his story and felt herself growing angry at his parents for leaving him alone when he was so young. Though he grew into a fine strong stallion leaving a young colt alone could have meant his death!
When he asked of her own past she grew pensive and quieted for a time deciding just how much to tell him, but after some time in silence she felt that he told her the whole truth and why should she keep hers partly shrouded in mystery. "Well my story is long and complicated but tis only fair that I share it with you as you have done with yours." She paused trying to decide just where to start.
"I was born not in these lands but on a South Sea Island with my mother, father, and twin brother. We were part of a close knit herd of mostly Alicorn's but we were not purists. Everyone was welcome within our Ohana." She stopped her steady forward gait and smiled shyly, "I'm sorry! Of course you wouldn't know my native tongue! The word means family. Our herd was loving and kind but my actual family was so much more than I think I can put into words..." The memories of her father teaching her to fly and her mother teaching her about herbs caused a small smile to flit about her lovely features, giving her a pixy like appearance. Shy and demure but glowingly beautiful.
Her story continued shortly afterward, "My father Kona was the one who taught me and my brother Keha how to fly. He was a full blooded wind soquili and knew how to fly with the best of them. He often boasted about how he once out flew an Angeni." She stopped once more sharing her skeptical look with him then laughed lightly the sound airy, "My mother was a unicorn and the head healer of the herd and taught me everything I know about herbs and treatment of the sick and wounded. She was so knowledgeable..." Her words trailed off and sadness tinted her voice. "When both my brother and I were young my father was killed. His friend told us that it was a rouge Kalona but the story had holes in it and when we found his... His... Body." She gulped audibly, "It was broken and bloody but not... Eaten. He had come to rest at the bottom of a ravine, his neck was broken." She stopped yet again. Forcibly choking off a sob but the strangled sound still escaped her throat. This was not an easy story to tell for her but tell it she must. "My brother did not take his death well and became very distant from mother and I. One day he just vanished and we waited day in and day out for someone to inform us of his death but word never came. Mother became saddened but she tried to hold on for me. She still taught me whatever she could about the healer's art and I learned quickly absorbing all the knowledge she could give me." She paused and sighed, "Then that fateful day. Mother was out gathering herbs in the nearby palm forest and was attacked by a Kalona. It tore her up something terrible and left her with deep gouges and... and...." The tears started to flow now, she just couldn't tell this part without crying. It was her fault that her mother died! If she had been a better healer she might have lived!!!
"Two hunters found her and brought her back to us. She was so wounded, and some of the gouges were infected... I tried to save her but I didn't have the power to close even the worst of the wounds! I was too inexperienced." She hiccuped loudly the sound echoing around in the forest, "I failed her and she died soon afterward, but with her last breath she asked me to become the healer that I always wanted to be and to be happy..." She looked up at Tenzin eyes red and puffy. She was just sure she looked awful but the story was not yet done. "I took her last words to heart and finished my training with an master healer in the herd. Shortly afterward I left my homeland behind and came to these lands. I've been wandering and plying my trade wherever it's been needed since."
She sighed heavily. The tears had stopped flowing but her eyes were still red. She hadn't mean to turn into a heap of tears in front of Tenzin and Damian but her story was one that broke her fragile heart each time she told it. "I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to turn into a geyser on you. Its not an easy story to tell."

User Image

Ehren listened to her story and wondered why she had never shared this part of herself with him but when it was done he stopped wondering such a thing. This story obviously broke her heart with each telling and Ehren was surprised to find his own heart beating fast. Painfully fast with the stories conclusion. Leilani was more broken then he had known when he found her dying in the desert. He knew now that he had to protect her from such an event happening again. He would give his life if need be! She would never feel alone again.
"Lei...." The snake whispered lightly. He curled himself a little tighter attempting to give her whatever form of consolation that he could.

Tenzin and Damian

Tenzin hadn't ever meant to upset her. He had wanted to learn more about her, but this... This made him feel as though he had done wrong. He had stopped, when she'd warned him about the complexity of the tale, and turned to face her. The herbs could wait, but he had a feeling that a chance to hear this story of hers wouldn't come again.

Her story was coated in sorrow, and his gut wrenched as she spoke about the deaths of her parents, and the abandonment of her brother. When she began to cry, he could only watch in stunned silence. This was not what he wanted when he asked about her past, he did not want to bring her such pain of remembering.

Then, the story was finished, and she had apologized for crying so much. Without much thought to what he was doing, Tenzin moved forward. He had thought to put his neck around her own, before remembering that was the hiding place of her familiar. So, he moved forward, and let one of his cheeks rest alongside of one of hers. His eyes fell closed after a moment, but he didn't back away.

"Leilani, you don't ever have to apologize for crying, not in front of me, and certainly not about speaking of your life." He murmured to the alicorn mare, "You have had to face so much sorrow in your life, but while I am beside you, I will do all in my power to make sure you never experience something so dreadful again." He had never felt so strongly towards another, not even his bond with Damian amounted to how protective he felt for Leilani. They'd just met, and yet he wanted to see her smile and be merry, always. He would do anything to ensure a bright future for the mare that found him, and who was showing him such great kindness. Yes, as he'd said, anything within his ability.

Wasteland Wyvern
Golly, gosh! That was rather dramatic! I was trying to write Tenzin's reply without intense cheesiness, but I'm not sure I was very successful in that endeavor... Oh well. ^^"

For a time she sat there hiccuping until he moved closer and whispered his promises into her ear. Her hiccups immediately stopped thanks to the shock of such a promise as he gave. Her face became intensely hot and though her body willed her away saying a lady would never be so close to someone she'd only met but she found herself stepping closer to Tenzin. The big stallion made her feel safe, accepted. Something she'd not felt since her parents were alive. She blinked and her hiccups came back suddenly. "Oh bother... Hic! Why does thi... Hic! Always happ... Hic! To me!!!" Every time she used her magic she sneezed. Every time she cried she got the hiccups. She was a mess of a mare and someone like Tenzin wouldn't want to be with her. She was just being a silly little ball of fluff for expecting more from him.
She stepped back and looked at him, "Thank you Tenzin. Hic!" She groaned at the fact that her gratitude was ruined by her hiccups. "Um shall we continue to the herbs? I feel that a little travel might sober me up a bit..." She was embarrassed heartily and was trying to ignore the fact that her pale green cheeks were likely bright red.

Tenzin and Damian

She was warm, as though there was fire within her. It was a comfort, and when he had moved towards her, she'd stilled, and her tears had stopped, even if it was only momentarily. He felt relief at this, knowing that she was better, and hoping that she was not going to start crying again. It wasn't a bother, certainly not, but he had gotten so worried for her. Had he done the right thing, in approaching her so openly as he had? She didn't seem bothered by his actions...

When she spoke again, she thanked him and he smiled at her. So, she wasn't mad at him for acting the way he did. That was another relief, and some growing stress removed. She informed him of how she believed traveling again would help her calm down more, and he nodded.

"Of course. We're almost at the first spot, in fact. Hopefully it will have some familiar herbs for you to examine." He replied, his voice kind. With a final nod, he turned again and walked in the direction they'd been headed, with Damian keeping close beside him. His familiar hadn't known what to make of the exchange, only feeling sympathy for Leilani.

Damian hadn't been particularly close to his family, leaving them before disaster struck, as it surely would. The tale of Leilani's past was a grim one, and he was sorry for her, but it was Tenzin's reaction that had surprised him so much. More still that Ehren hadn't spoken rudely, for it had seemed like an opportune chance for the serpent to do so. He would have to think more on this later, when he got a chance to speak alone with his Soquili counterpart.

"We're here." Came Tenzin from above Damian's head, and he followed Tenzin has he stepped out and then to the side, so not to block Leilani's view of the clearing.

The meadow was dotted with blossoming flowers, as it often was, save for in the colder seasons. The maple trees that surrounded the clearing had but a few leaves falling to the ground, but the leaves didn't hinder the sight of the meadow. In accompaniment with the sunlight shining upon the meadow, it made for a lovely sight. Tenzin looked back to Leilani, smiling again.

"What do you think?" He asked her, and then remembered that they came not to stare, but to look for herbs, "Shall we get started? I would love to learn about the herbs you find too, if you wouldn't mind teaching me." He added, though really he had less interest in learning of herbs, and more about seeing Leilani talk about something that made her happy. He wanted her previous sorrow to be gone from her mind, and he wanted her happy again.

She was relieved when they started moving again and though her hiccups interrupted the silence here and there the surprise at the meadow in front of them immediately caused them to stop. It was so beautiful, and there were so many useful plants! Just skating her eyes over the ground in front of her yielded so much promise. She gasped loudly and darted off digging her nose here and there and picking plants. She lifted her wing revealing a small pouch slung across her side where she stored the plants and started stuffing them in. Another gasp and another dart and she was off again finding plant after plant and adding them to her collection. After a short while she stopped and looked guiltily at Tenzin, "I'm sorry! The plants sometimes draw my attention so much that I miss things in prior conversation... I'd be more than happy to show you about the plants here." She smiled lightly and beckoned him over.

User Image

Ehren wasn't exactly liking the bouncing ride he was getting when his mare companion darted off and started snuffling on the ground for things. He sighed though it sounded more like a hiss than a sigh. He curled himself tighter but not too tightly lest he choke Leilani. Though honestly she should be more careful about what she was doing! A wild snake could bite her or she could get something stuck in her lip or eye! He shook his head and watched what she was doing hoping he could warn her first. Until of course she beckoned him over. That was almost too much! He glared at the stallion from where he was hiding his head though he also knew that no one could see his expression.

Belloblossom
If you want you could always have Damian draw Tenzin aside and talk to him privately for a bit if they want to discuss Tenzin's reaction to Leilani's tears. surprised

Tenzin and Damian

Tenzin was happily surprised with Leilani's sudden enthusiasm at seeing the field, and he followed after her, keeping his distance so that he wouldn't bother her work. He let out a contented chuckle, as he watched her happy that he could be of some use to her after all, especially after she'd been so kind to him.

"I was a bit surprised, to find you with another Soquili." Came Damian's remark below him. Tenzin looked down at the wolf, who was watching the mare with an unclear emotion in his eyes,"I'm happy for you, Tenzin. You've finally found a mare." The wolf's red eyes turned up to look into Tenzin's and he recognized pride in the wolf's gaze. Tenzin looked away quickly and stumbled over a soft reply.

"I- It's not-- We just met, Damian." At this, the wolf was the one to laugh quietly, turning his head back to look at Leilani, as Tenzin had done.

"That didn't stop you from showing her this meadow on such short notice, and it certainly didn't stop you when she started crying." Came the pert reply of the wolf. There was a small silence, as the two simply watched Leilani. Damian wore a smug expression, while Tenzin looked on her with affection, though it would be a while before he thought deeply on such feelings. Like he'd told Damian, he'd just met her that day, and it's impossible to love someone you'd just met. Even he and Damian hadn't had a bond of that strength upon first meetings.

Tenzin's ears perked up when Leilani remembered that he was there, and he smiled at her as he came over,
"No need for apologies, Leilani. It makes me happy to see that you are enjoying yourself." It had yet to occur to Tenzin that what he had said just then, should've been embarrassing. Damian smiled at his bonded's oblivious honesty, and spoke up before Tenzin could realize it, and attempt to remedy it with clumsy words.

"I'm going to check out the edges of the meadow. I'm sure we wouldn't want any unwelcome guests interrupting us." He wagged his tail as he looked at Leilani and Tenzin, happy that he was unable to see Ehren at this time, "Be sure to behave and play nice while I'm away!" He barked, before running off towards the forest borders.

Tenzin's ears twitched, discomforted by the implications of his familiar, and he looked to Leilani, wondering if she was just as bothered. He took only a moment to look at her, and it didn't seem like she was thoroughly upset with Damian, so he asked,
"Which familiar herbs have you managed to find so far?"
