Casseth's brows pinched together at the way Lithian said his name. He searched his friend's face, wondering what thoughts were going through his mind. Cas froze when Lith began to tug at his wrists. He let his fingers loosen and hands move to rest against the wall. His wings shuddered as he closed his eyes and listened to Lith's broken words. Had he been wrong about his friend's feelings? Had Lith just kissed him out of spite?
Cas' eyes clenched shut tighter, as he took a deep, shuddering breath. "I'm sorry, Lithian..." He nuzzled Lithian's neck and, unable to resist, kissed the place just below his ear before pushing away from the wall. He turned away from Lithian, willing his body to calm down as he ran his hands along the side of his head and sighing. "I shouldn't have...I'm sorry Lithian. You don't..." He shuddered as he glanced back to Lith. "...hate me, do you?"

Lithian froze, dragged out of his guilt towards Vyren in an instant at Casseth’s reaction, and he stared. “Do I…what? No! Casseth, you…” He flushed, reaching out, and then hesitating before he made contact, not wanting to drive Cas away further. “Casseth, I couldn’t possibly…I…” ‘I’ve loved you for nearly as long as I’ve known you, before I even knew what it meant to feel this way…before I knew what my interests were and before I had even considered to feel shame for them.’ He shut his eyes, shivering as he moved his hand up instead to where Casseth had kissed his neck and brushing his fingers over the spot.
“Vyren, Casseth,” he said. “It’s Vyren, not you. I just…I need to speak with him. I can’t do this to him. I shouldn’t have kissed you. Not here. Not now. This is my fault, but…” His eyes searched Cas’ face, pained by the hurt there. “I never expected you to kiss me back, never thought you would possibly be interested in me like…that — you’ve had so many girlfriends and never once expressed interest in a man, I…” Flushing hotter and rubbing at the nape of his neck, Lith shook his head. “I need to speak with Vyren. But I could never hate you…”
He eyed Cas’ lips again, but shoved the urge away. He needed to speak with Vyren and — somehow — break things off between them as smoothly as he could manage.
