"Okay losers." Smirking as she returned, the rebel base so dusted her boots would need a cleaning, Atiqua swung her hammer down and leaned on. "And gerbil loser." She just kept grinning. "Have we decided on what to do once we're paid? How are we going to split the rewards once we kick these rebels back. I was thinking 60-40. You get the 60 to split and I get the 40."

She was utterly serious.

Dictys was almost to the top of the hill before he spotted it - a redblood, watching them. It offered em a salute, but of course Dictys wasn't certain if that was intended to be a...respectful one, or, well...ey shuddered to think of anything else. Ey'd make a note of that one's appearance, then!

The sharp, unpleasant crackle of the walkie-talkie alerted Dictys to the fact that at least one of the lowbloods on eir team was awake. Although awake was perhaps not the word Dictys ought to use - Atiqua seemed rather intoxicated, as she usually did. "Simply do as I say and there will be no issue," Dictys sniffed, tailing her to ensure she did as ey'd dictated. Ey paid the other sentence no mind - ey owned no gerbils.

Anymore.

And of course once they'd made their way back to Swiftscale Hill, ey frowned again. "The rewards will be split as I dictate, of course - although anyone who enlists for the lowly purpose of rewards is honestly beneath me." It was easy for Dictys to say - ey'd never needed any of the rewards from this venture, and even if the rebels won this push ey'd still be able to live a comfortable, even decadent life.

Besides, Atiqua had hardly done anything but sing lewd songs and plant flags. Ugh. "We really should get back to business, though - those rebels won't leave the docks unattended, now that they're aware of it."

That decided, ey headed back to the docks to - ugh - build. Before long ey'd erected something fairly sturdy-looking, considering ey had no formal training in the matter. "Cifica, send some troops here." ey said, into the walkie-talkie. It seemed as though Dictys had decided to simply ignore any insinuations she made that she was in command in any way. How could it possibly be conceivable?

She always kept forgetting names. But then it hit her. "Okay Dickus. Look, You got the bling bling. You got the blood. But ya know what you don't got?" She titted her hat. "The captain's hat. And a Flag." She pulled out another copy of her flag- which was nestled next to an Alternian standard.

"You don't get to be captain until you got both. I got both. Where is your hat and flag?" She huffed into the walkie talkie before leanings against a tree. "Besides, who'd you'd rather see get the smack if things go sour? A lowerblooded teal, or your sea swimming skin? eh? Eh? EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH?"

"Also why take the docks? The hill has the advantage of a high vantage mark, allowing us to see pretty far out. It'd be good to focus on building up to maintain the advantage here before branching. Wait hold up I see a weird looking kid in the distance." She squinted.
"False alarm it was just you."

Somewhere, seadad was swimming in a circle knowing his ward was likely doing something stupid.

Dictys' eyes narrowed the longer she continued to speak. Perhaps it was the stress of the recent conflict - ordinarily, perhaps even earlier that night, ey'd have simply ignored the tealblood's petty attempts at power games. For that was what they were, weren't they? Flags and hats didn't determine leadership ability; skill and charisma did. Dictys had plenty of the second, and the first would come with time, while Atiqua was busy playing pirates with her flags.

And there was the rub, Dictys thought: she'd already scurried about on eir orders, and she hadn't done much of anything otherwise. Ey nodded toward the hills in response. "What marks a leader is eir subordinates' willingness to follow direction, their trust in eir decisionmaking and in eir concept of a common goal. Frivolous ornamentation and glory come after." Ey sounded, quite frankly, like a post-schoolfeeding special. "Things won't go sour, and I doubt," ey added, looking askance at her flags again, "that you've got the ability to take responsibility anyhow." The same could be said of Dictys, really, if one examined what'd happened after the gerbil fiasco, but of course Atiqua had no awareness of that.

Ey continued, edging closer to her. "There are your hills," ey spat, nodding to them: there was the base she'd built and fortified, and the defenders ey'd called to flank it. "We're looking for victory, not for war. For now, we've already got the hills under our control. If you'll fortify it, be my guest if that keeps you out of my way. The more we spread out, the more the rebels will need to thin their forces."

Ey turned, though, to see another redblood running off - and, after her, a yellowblood. Who proceeded to smash through the base ey'd just constructed. Fantastic, really. And...was that a tealblood lugging bricks over? Ugh. Ey'd have headed over, if not for a large company of defenders following. Even if the base there was shoddily-constructed, it had lookouts, then.

Their own defenders' numbers had been thinned slightly, too. Dictys' lip curled. "You do as you see fit - build, if you'd like. I'll drum up more support, since those orangebloods don't seem to be conscious. We need the defenders I'll rally to be assigned to the hill, and then they can take the rebels down there." With that said, ey headed off, clutching eir walkie talkie as though it were a weapon. It might as well be one, in Dictys' hands.

It was fortunate that Dictys had contacts. Ey'd radioed in a request for help to the base, and several of the recruits ey'd talked to before this phase of the Old Hemisect reconstruction operation began responded, and of course they brought...friends with them. It only took a little bit of walking (ugh - what a pain) for Dictys to find eir way over to them, and then, like a little shepherd, ey brought them over to Atiqua. "Assign them to the hill, and then have them attack the base at the docks."

Actually, it'd be preferable that one of the orangeblood girls do the assigning - as much as Dictys disliked her, ey was well aware that Atiqua had spent time in the demolition training crew. Of course, the base didn't look like much now, but it'd be a lot to look at soon if they didn't n** this silly effort in the bud.

"You," Atiqua began, "sound like you need to chill. And let the taller trolls take care of business. And by business I mean being the boss." She was totally boss material.

"I can respect you, but look, I got goals. Goals that involve glory and getting a ship and generally being the best. Do you REALLY want to be in charge? I mean, that would mean whatever I do..." She grinned. "Would be your fault and responsibility."

She was grinning as she pulled a small megaphone out of her hat.
She kept grinning as she turned it on with a screech.

"MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY SLIMESHAKES BRING ALL THE TROLLS TO THE YARD AND THEY'RE LIKE, IT'S BETTER THAN YOUR'S. DAMN RIGHT IT'S BETTER THAN YOUR'S. I'D TEACH YOU BUT I'D HAVE TO CHARGE-"

She also started twerking.

It oddly enough did attract a troll. A really kind of creepy one but eh, it was someone.

Here was the thing: Dictys might possibly have relented, if Atiqua had shown any sign of actually wanting to take responsibility. Or so ey told emself.

But it certainly was true that her little display made Dictys that much more determined to get through this successfully, with Dictys at the helm - despite Atiqua's disloyal tendencies and the orangebloods'...lack of diligence. In response to her antics, ey raised the walkie-talkie to eir lips and began speaking the moment she stopped shout-singing and started focusing instead on...twerking. "Variga, Lafute, if you are at all conscious I need all...fifteen...of these recruits on Swiftscale Hill; ten of them should proceed to attack the Luxury Docks. Following that, Variga should attempt to put a dent in the base that's been constructed there, and one of you should scout for information regarding different locations." They really needed a different place to act from.

And here Dictys had thought the night had started out so well, too. It was those moments of inattention - or the moments spent arguing with Atiqua - that had allowed the rebels to build such defenses on Dictys' precious docks.

DAILY REFRESH!

It's a new day! The fighting in Old Hemisect has begun, but injuries are as of yet still low. There have not yet been any casualties, to the relief of many lusii and even Captain Mapuye herself. The Alternian Military is offering leniency for those rebels who will turn themselves over to the royalist side. Flyers and announcements promising "Grace for those who, deep down in their pump biscuits, wish the best for our great Alternian race."

Today's Happenstance: Royalists attacking rebel defenders may roll 1D4. The resulting number of defenders can be added to their standby. This effect can only be used once per coordinate attacked.

Each troll is refreshed and ready to go with 2 available actions.

It was brought to my attention yesterday that there was an error printed in the rules! Please note that this error has been corrected, and to clarify:

You cannot mobilize defenders directly from your standby to assault an enemy base; they must be mobilized to a friendly base first. Thank you!

Refreshers:
POSSIBLE ACTIONS ARE:

Build: Roll 1D6 to build on a coordinate that you have unlocked – the roll result determines the durability of the base. You can also build on friendly bases to add durability, up to a maximum of 30 durability. You cannot build on a coordinate that already has an enemy base on it.
Trolls with training in Construction get a bonus to their roll:
Apprentice: Roll 2D6 Journeytroll: Roll 3D6 Master: Roll 4D6 Grandmaster: Roll 5D6

Rally: Roll 1D6 to organize defenders, which can be assigned to any coordinate you have unlocked. The roll result determines the amount of defenders you have rallied. Defenders will be on stand-by until you mobilize them. Defenders are the second level of defense that can be assigned to protect a base. You must use defenders to take out defenders if you want to demolish an enemy base!
Trolls with training in Recruiting get a bonus to their roll:
Apprentice: Roll 2D6 Journeytroll: Roll 3D6 Master: Roll 4D6 Grandmaster: Roll 5D6

Demolish:
Roll 1D6 to destroy a base on a coordinate that you have unlocked – the roll result determines the amount of damage done to the durability of the base. At 0 durability, the base is destroyed. You cannot demolish a base with defenders assigned to it.
Trolls with training in Demolition get a bonus to their roll:
Apprentice: Roll 2D6 Journeytroll: Roll 3D6 Master: Roll 4D6 Grandmaster: Roll 5D6

Intelligence: Roll a new coordinate (2D6). If you roll a coordinate you have already unlocked, the roll is wasted.
Trolls with training in Intelligence get a bonus to their rolls:
Apprentice: Roll 2 new coordinates (4D6)
Journeytroll: Roll 2 new coordinates (4D6); if at least 1 of the coordinates is not unique, re-roll 2D6 until a new coordinate has been unlocked.
Master: Journeytroll effect OR select one new coordinate from another team and unlock it. You must post with roleplay in your own thread and the other team’s thread for this to take effect.
Grandmaster: Journeytroll effect OR Master effect OR… Roll 1 coordinate (2D6). If your allies control the coordinate rolled: add 5 durability and 5 defenders to that coordinate (may surpass the maximum durability/defender limit by 5). If your opponents control the coordinate rolled: it loses 5 durability and 5 recruits (does not apply if the numbers would decrease past 0). You additionally unlock the coordinate.

Mobilize: Choose one of two options:
1. Send defenders from your stand-by or a friendly-base you control to any friendly-base on a coordinate that you have unlocked.
2. Assault an enemy-controlled coordinate that you have unlocked using defenders from a friendly base. Defenders must be deployed to a base before they can assault an enemy base and cannot attack directly from your standby.

POST IN THE WAR ROOM THREAD IF:

You build a new base on a coordinate
You reinforce a friendly base
You assign defenders to a base
You assault a base
You do damage to a base
You destroy a base
You use the Grandmaster Intelligence perk to affect a base

Another night, another trial. It seemed after last night that Dictys really was going at this alone. But did that matter now?

Of course not. Ey'd rise above whatever antics Atiqua chose to throw at em - and if ey was able to rally defenders, ey'd tell them what to do emself. Clearly Atiqua wouldn't be stepping up, after all - and it seemed as though Abrila's diligence wavered. Dictys wasn't even going to think about Nervit, who'd yet to do much of anything yet.

What was nice about the hill was that while Atiqua was still sleeping the day away, it made an excellent vantage point from which Dictys could preach. And it seemed like trolls were enticed, tonight - after all, the empire's new posters did seem to help. People liked the idea of a reprieve, even if it meant they might never be able to go back. That was all well for Dictys, too. Ey waved a lofty little hand at the trolls who'd gathered to hear em speak and resolved to make good use of them.

Sure, the Sunsetters lacked mobility. If they lost this holding, they'd have to scout out another one from which they could make their movements. What they didn't lack, though, was people. Even if they were badly-trained, easily frightened people - sheeple, really. Dictys was fine with that. "On the hill," ey directed. "I need a patrol."

The thing was, Dictys was sure that other teams had made far more progress than Dictys emself. They had to have more intelligence - they were probably organized, with skilled, charismatic seadwelling captains and designated roles. Their members probably did exactly as they were assigned, which was obviously a job that fit their skillset. There was none of Atiqua's posturing dance or silly leadership games that involved something as silly as hats. And none of their members idolized that stupid breed of landdwellers who sailed about on boats because they couldn't bring themselves to swim. Ugh - anyone who was anyone knew that starships were the only sort of ship worth talking about.

And if one of those redbloods had been a faithful empire scout (and ey really had a feeling that it was the one who'd been looking over the base that was still intact!)...then Dictys knew exactly where ey should be placing eir troops.

Group Progress:
Coordinates Unlocked: (3,5); (6,5)
Defenders on Standby: 0
Result of Action: 28 defenders deployed to Swiftscale Hill.

Eostre picked up her radio and tapped the table, waiting for the signal to stop giving her static. Hopefully the trolls at the camp here didn't mind the little social call. "Greetings, Eostre Diazzi here. Hope you're having better luck fending off rebels than we are. Anyway, I'm just radioing in to let you know I moved some of your defenders." She was about to put down the radio, when she remembered something.

"If you need more defense added to your bases, let me know and I'll send someone to help fortify them."

Abrila had a dream where she had slammed her walkie-talkie into the ground with her shovel a few times since it kept disturbing her sleep. When she woke up, it was no where to be found, and some weird debris was beside her recuperoon. Odd.

Well, until she was able to retrieve another one, she supposed she would have to go on alone. Which she didn't mind, really. She was pretty resourceful and all. She had even built a base. Go team!

She made her way over there and then promptly turned around at the sight of rebels swarming the place. What happened? For the first time in her life, she wondered if she overslept. And she felt strangely annoyed at the fact. It was like they had dirtied up her space with their filth. They dared touch her stuff?

She returned to her sleeping quarters and retrieved the bits of walkie-talkie. The plastic cover was toast, but the wiring was still good. With some fiddling, she managed to get static.

"Position 3,5, can you hear me?" She said, the strength of her voice driven by how dare they touch her stuff. "We need 10 defenders at 6,5."
