[Speaking with: a home nearby, the complex not the makeshift shelter]
"Leaving this to you guys." Amalia and Shun began to deal with Old Barb and he left the task to them. Both trainees were the serious and determined type from what he'd seen and he had no doubts that they could intimidate the old woman into backing down. Shun was cool and poker faced while Amalia rarely lost a contest of wills. He glanced to his side and Jeong bent down a little to question Roxy further. He wasn't too invested to pull out of this now but the stillness of the street urged him to see this through. Although the slums were dirty and gloomy, they weren't complete without the sound of children playing amongst the alleys or getting into trouble.
"I'm going to ask around too." Quick fingers gave a loop of gold a light tug to alert Larisa where he was going (just in case) and he nodded his head towards the neighboring complex. Making his way up the stairs, his thoughts wandered to appropriate destinies to the party responsible for the disappearances. Most of them were too dark to share. They had to be sick, whoever was behind this, to go after the young. Knocking on the door of the building, he waited five seconds for an answer before talking out loud anyways for any approaching residents to hear if they answered.
"Scuse me, I need to ask you a few questions. I'm investigating the recent disappearances and wondered if you'd seen or heard anything." He put on a sheepish smile and lowered his voice for the next bit, "I tried talking to Old Barb but she's a tough nut to crack. Any advice?" Hwan lied smoothly, figuring this would either get him some gossip about who to talk to in the neighborhood or tips to report back to Amalia and Shun with.

Old Barb let her sights narrow down on both the two approaching her; Shun, and Amalia. The old granny wasn't looking like she was wanting to talk to either of them, that wrinkled old mouth tightly sealed with no chance of opening by the looks of it. Her heavy brows furrowed further, whispy, white caterpillars for eyebrows weighing down on her already rather beady eyes. To Amalia's question, she gave a snort from her nose, "maybe." that scratchy, gravely, aged voice finally spoke up. It was a stubborn and tightly wound sort of tone, like a rusted over chest that refused to pop open.
Sliding her eyes to Shun, she gave another snort, and looked off nonchalantly, "What's it to ya?" another half-baked response. But... at least it was something, right? Roxy wearily watched the two brave volunteers approach the elderly woman, looking up as she was prompted by one of the pair of twins that'd also followed along. A slow nod was given to him in understanding, her eyes lowering to the ground in thought, "Well... they were big, grown ups. Wearing... kinda dark, black, heavy clothes." her nose wrinkled as she struggled to describe them as effectively as she'd like. Her vocabulary wasn't that vast, after all. "Oh! Scars, and... tattoos!" her hands traced along her face, and arms in gesture, before looking off to recall anything else, "They.. were weird because they came in with clothes a bit better than ours. And it was always when nighttime was coming. When we were all going home to bed. And.. they had these empty bags." she frowned as her arms lengthened to show the size of the things. "Like this." The door that'd been knocked on didn't respond for quite sometime. Infact the poor trainee may think no one was home, until quite a long pause later, the door creaked, and cracked open just slightly. A single blue eye could be seen peeking through, staring at the stranger wide, and nervously. It even darted around as if to look for what may lie beyond. "I wouldn't mess with them..." the voice replied, hurriedly, and hushed, the nervousness evident in the wavering tone. "They... they look like trouble.." the man behind quickly added, even cowering a bit more as he said it, the crack shrinking just a tiny amount further for fear they may hear him.

Shun raised his brow at the old woman, then glanced to Amalia. Neither of them really got much of an answer out of her. Crossing his arms, he lightly tapped his fingers against himself as he tried to think of a way to get information. Threats were one option, but he didn't try that just yet. "If there's people vanishing, then whoever is controlling this area might have something to do with it. If you need something to loosen your tongue, I can see to it that you get some food out of this."

Amalia glared at the old woman, and she strode up to her and shoved her face right up to the other's, her eyes narrowing. "Rethink that 'maybe'." She whispered, her voice dripping with malice.

A wirey, wild brow raised to a rather surprising height, revealing the sunken, dark eyes that peered at Shun like a rock sinking through sand. With a "keh!" sort of chuckle and cough mixture, the old woman sized the young strapping lad up, before her attention went off to the side and completely off of him. Young whipper snappers these days! However... as Amalia made her own advance, it instantly caught Old Barb's eye. Wrinkled mouth tightening more, rolling those thin lips inwards, she glared back at the girl with some malice of her own. While she wasn't deterred, nor feeling any means of fright by a young pup like the ones before her, Old Barb seemed to give a little more information than she had the prior time Amalia asked. She liked seeing a young lady like herself demanding and taking command, "I think I might have. Lots of people've been disappearing.. new folks comin' in. But not stayin'."

His idea had fallen flat. And it seemed that Barb responded better with Amalia's intimidation attempt, even though she didn't seem particularly scared or anything like that. So much for attempting to play nice first. With a light sigh, Shun rolled his shoulders before stepping closer to the old woman, keeping a harsh expression of his own as he looked down at her. His tone had taken a harder edge as well. "Elaborate. What sort of new folks are coming in? Who're they hanging around?"

Unfortunately for Shun, his attempts at giving the old bag a sharper tongue didn't resonate as well. Wrinkling her nose, and narrowing her eyes at the boy, she show cleared displeasure in the young man being so pushy. There were far too many men like that! Lips pressing again, she looked as though she wouldn't say anything at all at this point! but eventually, a tight lipped response was given, "Watch your tone, boy." she snarled a warning, "Some frumpy men, who visit the more... unfortunate of us." she slowly replied.

A gasp pierced through the air, making even Old Barb look up with a hint of surprise and shock to her features. Roxy's face was pale, and eyes wider than a quarter, as though she'd seen a ghost! "th-there..!" she squeaked with a barely there voice, a hand raising swiftly to point further down the street.
Following her gesture, one would see some shadowy figures quickly hurrying along, satchels slung over their backs, that were... rather large, and heavily packed with an odd sort of figure within. Muffled sounds could be heard just faintly if one had good enough hearing, and... was that sac moving around against that mans back that was the last to disappear around the block?!
"Th-...that's them.." Roxy cautiously whispered, voice choking off with how scared she was, taking cover behind Jeong-jae, gently clutching a portion of his pant leg. The men would be long gone by now, getting easily lost in the hustle and bustle of the more congested parts of the slums further out. Old Barb's hardened exterior seemed to hold a little softening, her jaw not so tightly held, and eyelids lowering to an expression of sorrow.
Part 1 end That concludes the first part of the Mystery event. Please stay tuned for the next parts!
