"No, for the first time in the history of forever, this is not me ******** with you." Maebe looked back up at the ceiling, a small smile creeping up on her face at the answer. She knew Jude would be comfortable with this knowledge. He was neither scared, nor excited. He was Jude - he would find this important information out, take it in, and then continue life as normal. That was why she'd told Otto that she'd be the one to tell him, without worrying about it. "So, this is the deal. Apparently, your mom and/or dad, they had a kid. And that kid was you. So, I guess you were probably way too young to remember this, but they had another one, and gave him up for adoption. We don't know why." She sort of hoped he did, but why would he? He would have been a tiny little toddler at the time. "So. You have a brother. And surprise surprise, he's a Hunter." She gave him a knowing, sarcastic look. "Spoiler, that part's not really a surprise."

Jude was content with Maebe's word that she wasn't screwing with him on some sort of weird need to have a joke at him. He just sort of sat as he took in the information and for his part there was no vehement denials on the fact, no shattered expression of not being the precious only child like he always thought he was, there was just a weird pinched expression.
He remembered then that he still had his reading glasses on and calmly took them off as he rubbed at his forehead. Jude almost wanted to remember, "Really? I'm just surprised that my mom gave up a kid..." Jude did recall her longingly looking through infant clothes even though he was far, far too old for them at the time.
"Any other spoilers?" He asked while he busily tried to dig through some sort of haze of memories to see if any of this made sense.

"Yes." She looked straight at him, this time clearly no longer as serious. "The man who is your brother is Caelius."

"Then it makes sense. I'd give him up for adoption, too." Jude was very flat in tone as he said this.

"Yes. That does make sense." Maebe nodded sagely. "But there's more. It turns out he needs a kidney transplant, and you're the only one who can save him."

"Until one of the Life Division folk come in here and forcibly tie me down to take it from me? No, he can't have it. I am using them both for the mass amounts of alcohol I consume each night while I snort drugs." he replied back at her.

"You selfish b*****d!" Maebe was up in a flash, standing to start looking through all of his things. "I should have known you kept a stash of things here, that's why you're always so calm."
She started to pull his clothing out one by one, looking for it.

He didn't even get up to stop her, "Any who find my righteous stash can share in it with me. It isn't fun unless I make people play hide and seek for it first."
Jude helpfully offered her a stack of books he had, "In case you want to search for hidden compartments in the books. Don't go reading and accidentally learning things." It was a gentle teasing jibe at her.
"Seriously, though. Who is it. You managed to perk my curiosity." He said in a slightly more earnest tone.

"Ew, books." She'd already started to put on one of his shirts, because he'd made a mistake letting her get into his clothing. She knocked the books out of his hands, and then moved to stand in front of him. She crouched down, wearing a shirt far too long for her, but her expression looked strange - proud, perhaps. If there was anyone she could be proud of to call her brother in law.. ...Well that was a thought she wasn't going to think too hard about. "Have you ever met a guy named Otto Graves? A little taller than me, sweet face, never smiles. My boyfriend."

"Scrawny, bad attitude. Cheats in wrestling? Yeah I know him." Jude said back at her with a small smirk. He hadn't objected when she decided that one of his shirts were now his. Whatever. He needed new clothes anyways at some point. The book she shoved away was set to it's proper place and he just stared at her wondering why she had looked so proud moments before. It was a bit baffling to him all things considered.
If Otto suddenly appeared in a diaper while she announced 'It's a boy!' he was getting right the ******** out of there. Even if it was his own room.
"We used to talk. I often get under his skin with little things. Sometimes I call him Otter to make him squirm a bit," he admitted with a chuckle that was soon followed by a pause. "..That's my brother?"
He certainly was more willing to at least let Otto have a kidney.

"He's not scrawny." Maebe defended, though she didn't sound offended by his mistake. She just felt the need to share. "He's actually very well defined. He's just lean. Trust me, I know every inch." It didn't surprise her that Jude used to get under Otto's skin. Jude was her friend and mentor because he was a lot like her in many ways - ways that had probably gotten under Otto's skin by her too, at first. She smiled and patted his knees. "That's your brother. Congratulations." She pushed herself up using his knees, and resumed going through his things. "And he has a cousin, so I guess that makes her your cousin too, unless it's some marriage thing. I don't know. If you've ever met Peyton, that's her." Maebe used one of his pants over her arms, moving like a robot. "Congratulations on your new family. Just remember that some of us don't have one, so don't start having family picnics with my boyfriend and not inviting me. I'll ******** shank you." She said this strictly because Jude would never be the type to want family picnics. Or not invite her places.

"I do what I want. You're not my real step dad," he retorted back at her. He let her correction flow off of him like water off of a duck's back. Jude didn't particularly care what Otto looked like naked or clothed or really .. In any state that wasn't in at least ten layers of clothes between him and Otto at all times.
At. All. Times.
"Seriously though? Now you're dragging a cousin into this? I barely have room in my head for the brother I have now." Congrats indeed.

"Oh, come on. I had to rip it all off like a band-aid. Telling you that you had a cousin after that brother bombshell was like, just getting it all out of the way at once. I'm doing you a favor." She pulled the pants off of her arms, and pulled another shirt out, wrapping it around her head. She tied the sleeves around her neck, wearing it like a hood, and then flopped down to sit on his lap. "He's a really great guy." Maebe told him, her small, proud smile lifting against her lips again. "I mean, I like him. That's got to stand for something, right?" Her hand reached out and patted Jude's head. "So you have no idea why he was given away?"

"Glad you aren't a doctor. Ripping bandaids off and all that." He shrugged a little bit, "It's kind of hard to think of my father having family outside of me and mom that's all. As far as I know just about everyone on my mom's side is not alive anymore. So .. It's like admitting someone actually spawned the a*****e that was part of my creation as well as Otto's apparently..."
He made an expression as if he'd swallowed something bitter just then.
"Mae, you don't have to sell me on the guy. I'm sure he's a real prince, at least to you and those he cares about," he shrugged slightly, "I just never been part of that circle for him outside tormenting him. I teased him about being cute once and he punched me in the face."
Good times.
"Brought it on myself and then some." The head pats and her sitting on his lap were just accepted with him simply not pushing her away. It was an odd bond they had. "Either way.. Like I said.. I know mom wouldn't have wanted to..." Jude frowned a bit at the wash of thoughts followed over him. A mother's sad face. Arguments that abruptly stopped when he toddled into view. Small scenes that he never understood and still didn't.
"Dad was always jealous of me. He wanted mom to himself, it put a bug in his a** that I was around." Jude finally said wondering if that was enough to make sense.

From what little Jude knew, it sounded like it was all their fathers fault - and he wasn't in the picture anymore. That made things both simple.. and a lot more complex for Otto. Resolution wouldn't come easily for him this way. "Okay." Maebe held back, a little embarrassed that she'd been trying so hard to talk up Otto to someone who really didn't need to hear it. She frowned, hesitant to ask the question that was the entire reason why she was here, and Otto wasn't. "Are you going to talk to him about it?"
