Tara nodded, watch the water ripple around him. "I know he wouldn't be happy if he hung around here to much. I've tried to be around more, my Dad has been gone a while, so I don't want to leave my mother alone. Its defiantly nice to get out today, And to meet a new friend too!" The mare laughed, ruffling her wings. She stared at the water, smile pulling at her muzzle. "I suppose that was a silly question. I've only stood in the shallows, so I've seen the little fish that swim around, but anything bigger then that in a mystery to me." Lavender eyes widened at his words, looking up to lock eyes with him. "So many. Though I suppose that's just like up here. We have smaller breeds too, the Usida. Some scary breeds like Kalona and Skinwalkers." The mare shuddered. "I most defiantly avoid those. What others are up here... OH, yes. There are some with antlers, some with wings like butterflies. There are birds, and squirrels and deer...Ship wrecks? Coral? Wow... What does coral look like?"

"I am sure, with a family as close as yours, that your father will return soon... And even your brother will grow tired of wandering, for a time. It is probably nice to have your whole family gathered around you. To share in triumphs and lessen sorrows."
The Mer Stallion shifted in the shallows, splashing water up his neck and ensuring his mane was soaked to keep him cool in spite of the sun. He smiled at the sound of the the mare's laughter, and slapped his tail-fin to send a playful splash her way when he noticed her attention on it. "Not one for a swim Lady Fair? You're missing out."
For a moment his scales gleamed above water, the white-blue of seafoam glimmering in the sun. The next moment he tucked his tail safely back under the water again, tilting his head as he grinned. "No, it was not a silly question at all. We have families and form groups, lead by one or a pair of those we consider Alpha. There are protectors and healers, and there are certainly dangers here as well."
He grinned and nodded, catching a glimpse of a nearby school of such little fish as those she mentioned. The school did not seem to pay Irridian any mind, so he let them be as well. They were not annoying him, so he saw no reason to scare them off. "Perhaps with company you may venture out a bit, and see what there is to see? There are also sections of water so clear that even flying overhead, you can see to the bottom."
He nodded as she spoke of the herds that walked the ground, ears flipping forward at the mention of those that seemed to scare her. He wondered about the ones with wings like butterflies, since he had seen one or two in his time int he shallows. "Coral? Ah, there are many kinds. There are those that grow like rocks, and those that appear as brightly colored flowers, or rich vibrant ferns that stand stiff in the ocean current. They are beautiful and varied, like that which grows in the lands."

Sitara smiled, glancing toward her home. "Hopefully sooner, rather then later. I leave soon to go on another adventure with my grandpa Ty! I'm so excited. We have so much fun, just me and him." When the cool water hit the mare on the neck and chest, she let out a startled squeal, hopping back away from the water. "Meanie!" She giggled then, heading right for the shallows. Bouncing into the shallow water, the blue mare used her tail to splash the stallion back. "No, I'm not much of a swimmer, but I do like to sit in the shallows to cool off!" Settling on her rear on a rock a few inches below the water, Tara listened to the stallion intently, nodding when appropriate. "You'll have to show me where those places are! I've always wanted to see the bottom of the river, but.... I don't swim very well." She laughed, cat like tail swaying back and forth in the shallows, causing a small ripple with each pass. "Oh my... they sound so beautiful... I can only imagine how colorful they are!"

Irridian watched her glance back, following her gaze further inland. He tilted his head at her words, smiling faintly. "Another adventure? Traveling with kin is almost always enjoyable, I have found. The swim here would have been exhausting and dull without the company of my siblings... Though I find that I miss them now that they have dispersed. Perhaps I will follow your good example and seek them out once we have parted ways. To see what mischief they have wrought themselves."
He laughed and flipped his tail again, sending a lesser splash after the first. "I? Merely aiding a lovely lady to stay cool in the oppressive heat of day. Pure gentleman."
He laughed as he teased her, darting about in the deeper shallows as he watched her wade closer. Watching her perch on a nearby rock he ducked under the surface for a moment, darting a quick circle before surfacing before her again. He shook his soaked mane out of his eyes and glanced back over his shoulder toward the deep sea for a moment.
"One day, if you will fly out, I will show you the way to one of the lesser islands... When the tide is out, the waters there are easily waded, and there is a nearby reef I am sure you will enjoy."
He grinned. "No swimming necessary, though I warn you being friends with one such as myself will surely instill the skill in you. We will soon make you the envy of every otter in these waters, should you wish to gain the skill."
The idea of giving her swimming lessons was cheering, it meant they would spend more time together and he could learn more of her world as he showed her some of his. That in itself was worth it, for Irridian was boundlessly curious.

Tara grinned, laughing at the male before her. He was certainly an amusing male. "The perfect gentlemen indeed!" Lowering herself into the water, the wind mare watched him swim around her, wondering if she too could learn to swim like that. It didn't seem possible, the more she mulled over it. She had wings, and while she was aerodynamic in flight, she had a feeling her wings would be quite the hindrance in any attempt to swim. Plus she hated getting her feathers wet, they took forever to dry, and she imagined swimming with both wings spread up in the air and out of the water would make her look rather silly. Her tail might make a good rudder though!
At the thought of a trip out to see those reefs, the blue coated mare grinned widely. "Really? You'd take me out there to see them? That would be so wonderful, yes, of course! As long as I don't have to swim there." A mental image of how awful she looked that time her brother had shoved her into the river crossed her mind. In between his hysterical laughter and gasps for air, Delri had sputtered out how she looked like a drowned rat before toppling over into a fit of hysterics and feathers.
She blinked down at him, trying to decide if the water stallion was mocking her. Otters be damned, she could barely keep her head above the water. Staring down at him, she smiled softly. "As long as your patient... and don't laugh, I can give the swimming thing a try I guess..."

In a faint corner of his mind he wondered if his siblings were well. Maybe they were even happy, settled with lovely ladies or joining a band that were as good as brothers... He had been told there was a pirate herd, in the oceans of this place... While he had not yet met any of the adults, some of the wandering foals had crossed his path early on. He'd seen the fillies safely home, and avoided joining the group at the time. But now, he rather wondered if one of his brothers had joined... Had he missed his chance to see them?
Or perhaps his brothers had gotten themselves into mischief, after they had parted ways? Had swum back home? Had gone off chasing treasure or adventure or true love or... Well, he couldn't even begin to guess, oddly enough. There were so many possibilities in this place. The four of them had traveled all this way together, and then suddenly split up to chase their own futures. Perhaps counter to his siblings impulses; Irridian was fine with the idea of letting the 'future' find him. He wasn't in any hurry to harry fate along, for everyone knew that pressing the Lady in charge was unwise.
To say the least!
Besides, wonderful friends could be met at any of fate's crossroads, like this lovely little wind mare and her stories of her wandering family. The fact that she was beautifl and entertaining was an unexpected treat, and he grinned and delighted in her laughter as he swept another stream of water her way.
"Indeed. Most kindhearted and noble." He teased. "I will forgive you and your previous harsh tones StarLady, I am sure you did not meant to wound my heart with your words."
When she moved deeper into the water, Irridian took advantage of the moment to submerge himself and sprint a quick circle out to deeper waters and then back to the shallows again. He surfaced with a puffing exhale and grinned at the mist it produced, swimming back into conversing distance with Sitara. He could tell she was considering the possibility of a swim, and even if she did not wish to learn he was sure a nice wade here or there would be easy enough for her to undertake.
Still, he rather hoped she'd take a glide out to the reefs. "But of course, Lovely Lady. And it is a bit of a swim to a novice, but nothing as a star dances or a bird flies... Since you are a bit of both, it should be a fairly simple flight. There are some places that will be shallow enough you can walk or wade, if you would rather not learn to swim just yet."
He grinned, because he could tell she was less than thrilled with the idea. "I am happy to teach, and in no rush, so patience aplenty. Besides, we can start off light, just an emergency precaution sort of situation.. If you hate it, we have no need to continue."

Grinning at him, Tara inched closer to the edge of the underwater shelf she stood on, desperately trying pluck up enough courage to 'take the plunge'. he would just love to fly out and see those reefs, and by the spirits, she was going to do it. Maybe he could show her where all those pretty shells came from too!
"I'd love to fly out there. Swimming might be difficult with my current skill level, but I can certainly fly out there with no problems at all! It sounds fun, really. As long as its shallow enough for me to stand, I am A-okay with going out there. I tend to sink like a rock when I get in deeper water-"
And, as if she wanted to show him this very thing, the mare took one step to far off the shelf and tumbled head over tea kettle into the deeper water. Now, she knew that you needed to kick your feet to swim, and so she did, using her tail as well to propel herself toward the surface. The dark coated mare broke through a moment later, gasping for air as she scrambled to get back on to the shallow shelf. Hurling herself forward, Tara tumbled back on the shelf.
Well, that was fun!

Irridian gave her a cheerful grin as he watched her inch closer. Her position on the rock shelf was still quite secure, she was in no danger of falling just yet. And if she did, he was just off the ledge to make sure no ill befell her. But for the moment he simply delighted in the company.
"Well, I don't mind giving you swimming lessons for any event of emergency." He offered with a flick of his tail. "Though you do have a point, your first trip out there would be better done on the wing rather than the waves. Still, once you get a bit of practice in I am sure you would be able to make the swim without difficulty. I hear winds have a fairly easy time learning to float, at any rate."
He considered it for a moment, then gave a stout nod. "When the tide goes out there is plenty of leeway for you to stand on some of the higher points of the shelf, some bare rocks, and edges of the reef without coral that you could step on with a bit of care."
She mentioned sinking and he gave a surprised laugh. "A rock? I doubt it. But I wouldn't let you sink, anyway. I'm a strong enough swimmer for the both of us, if push comes to shove. I certainly can't let a beautiful lady who has agreed to be my friend just drown at the drop of a stone! I'd never make friends again, and be deeply saddened for it."
He darted sideways when she tumbled into the water, diving to make sure she didn't get hoof or wing caught in the rocks. When it appeared like there might be a close call, he gave her a gentle nudge, but otherwise let her resurface on her own. She was back up on the rock shelf in a moment, and just after that Irridian resurfaced.
Exhaling a plume of sea-salt air, the stallion shook his head, eyes wide. "Alright, no swimming for you. You have proved your point."
That was scary and he never, ever wanted to go through it again.
"Are you alright, Sitara?"
