Bell giggled and tried to catch her breath. "A love song all their own huh.." Mmm...she liked the sound of that. The filly closed her eyes and pictured it. A small, bright little song bird looking down on a handsomely patterned duck. They try to communicate in their own ways but it doesn't quite work out. Bell giggled softly at the tweet-quaking. Bringing the flute to her lips and played the songbird's well thought out reply. She pitched the notes lower, but still played fast, a slightly jazzy beat sneaking into the song. "I think we could work with that." it was short and they could work on it piece by piece. "Your sax is tuned, we just need to work together." She felt much more at ease now. Laughing at their combined mishmash of music has washed away all of her nervousness. She reached over and moved Swing's hooves to different keys. "Let's try this.." She sat down next to him and started playing the first part of the little tune she'd made up.

"Wow..." The pegasus was so enraptured by Bell's music that he was lost in the melody for a bit, snapping out of it only when she was talking to him again.
"Wha - ? Oh, right! Good idea." If there was one thing he learned from his siblings and family's love of baseball, it was how to be a team player. He just...had to figure out how not to bring down Belldandy's playing with his own inexperience.
It was so strange. When the unicorn reached over to help him, Swing realized something odd. Since he was usually the one trying to help his other siblings with their talents and keeping out of the way to let them shine, he hadn't ever experienced the other side of the coin. Now, though, he was the one being helped. It was a nice feeling that someone would care enough to take the time and trouble to do so.
Paying special attention to the keys he was guided toward, the colt wondered if his face felt warm and ruddy from having laughed so much, or from something else. Trying to ignore it, he slowly began to play along with Belldandy.

Bell went over the first part of the tune with Swinger several times, and was pleased when the sax started slowly joining in her notes and a tentative harmony was forming. Exhaling and wriggling her nose a bit as her face was going a bit numb from all the playing, she beamed at Swinger. "You've got a talent for this I think. You can join in just by listening, that's very difficult to do. I have to read music unless I make it up, so that's really amazing." The day had turned to late afternoon suddenly and the air was beginning to cool down. "Oh, it's going to be dinner soon.." she paused and was kind of startled that she didn't really want to go. Looking at Swing from the corner of her eye, she leaned over and put a tiny peck on his cheek. Feeling suddenly overwhelmed by shyness, she grabbed her flute and case without packing it away and took off in the direction of her house, calling back over her shoulder. "C..COME BACK TOMORROW OK?! WE HAVE TO PRACTICE!"

Happy to learn as much as practice alongside Bell, Swinger quickly picked up what she patiently taught him. Once he got the hang of what buttons on the sax corresponded to what notes, he managed to figure out how to harmonize with Belldandy the same way that he harmonized with his other siblings when they practiced singing.
"O-oh, really? I always thought reading music was harder to do," Swing answered, already flushed at her compliment. "W-well maybe it's just because I practice singing, so I'm used to what the notes sound like aloud. It's easier to practice harmonies when you don't have to worry about reading music, so maybe if you used that pretty voice of yours more, you'd get better at it, too." He chuckled. "And I should probably practice reading sax music more, too."
Noticing the darkening sky for the first time, the colt was admiring the atmosphere before Belldandy spoke up about dinner. His face fell slightly, sorry that she was right. He hadn't had this much fun in a while, especially with someone other than his brothers or sisters.
Also, the fact that she had said he had a talent for something had really resonated with him, because prior to today, even though he did a lot of stuff, he hadn't thought he could be specifically good at anything. To be able to play alongside another phony but not have to worry about outshining or competing with them...it was really nice.
"I guess you're right," he murmured, sorrowfully looking down at his sax. But his head jerked back up when he felt a light kiss on his cheek, caught completely by surprise. He stared after the unicorn filly, shocked into speechlessness. Even when she had picked up her things and called back to him, he could only gawp at her dumbfoundedly with wide eyes. His jaw moved, but no sound left his mouth.
Eventually, the colt forced himself to pick up his own belongings and find his way back home. He hardly recalled that he himself hadn't learned how to disassemble his instrument. He hadn't even gotten to thank her for all her help! These thoughts, rather than disheartening him, only brought a smile to his face. Now he absolutely had to see her again; aside from her words that they had to practice, he had at least two very good reasons to go find her the next day. Tomorrow could not come soon enough.Astraea Pandora ((OMG ASTRA WHY?! rofl Swing is probably going to be red for days.
