The Emmy committee has never liked horror shows. Just look at the Walking Dead.
I'm amazed that it didn't at least get something for cinematography, though. I'm constantly amazed by the artfulness of the show; it being very artsy is one of the reasons is viewings are lower than others shows (nobody ever lost money underestimating the taste of the American public)
Overall, I'm disappointed. I think it definitely deserved at least some nominations.

From what I understand it's far more popular by non-american viewers. Canadians seem super into it and people in the Europe and all over Asia, and so that's why it's still doing well as a niche show. But because the ratings and stuff for the Emmys are all based on an american bias, that's where the trouble comes from. If it were up to international views to vote I think there would be so much more likelyhood for Hannibal to do well.
Really? It's not as popular in America? I guess I never paid attention to that. Though now that I think about it whenever I ask people about the show, they say they know of it and it looks interesting, but they never actually watch it. Hannibal rules!

I totally agree. Tonight I started watching Game of Thrones and I just don't get it. How can people be so into this show and not Hannibal. Hannibal is light compared to this! Wow.

Game of Thrones ever really interested me. I tried getting into it, but the characters aren't that interesting (or likeable) to me. And it's kinda of boring in the sense that everything drags a bit. And the promise of supernatural elements that take forever to get there and I don't care enough to keep at it. scream

I didn't expect anything supernatural from Hannibal and I got a ravenstag and wendigo. rofl

And violence wise Hannibal is artful and cannibalism which some people can't take. GoT is brutal and bloody. I think Hannibal would make someone more uncomfortable than mindless violence. The way the content presents itself, which show would hit closer to home? (Which to me should make Hannibal more awesome, but whatever.)

I think a reason between the two shows differences is Hannibal is marketed as a horror, but Game of Thrones is an action/adventure/horror/drama thing. (So much drama)

So the nominees are out, once again, for the 2014 Emmys and once again all of the same names are up on the list because all the same people win every year almost, and what, are you surprised, Hannibal is no where to be found yet again. What the hell is up with that? I'm so pissed off.
they suck! :c

They totally do. I mean come on!
they just dont want us to be happy. _-_ or theyre waiting for it to be even more popular.

We're just going to turn around one day and eat them all because they suck so bad.

Maybe you're right about the reality aspect of Hannibal. To think that someone like him is out there doing what he does is a little creep but at the same time a man like hannibal in his behaviour and his love of the arts, would make the world a better place - in my opinion. But I guess because Game of Thrones is supposed to be a fantasy genre then it gets away with all the things that people find troubling in Hannibal. Because there is blood and gore and violence and cannibalism in both shows, just one can say "oh its not real we're a fantasy show" while fans of hannibal sit around say "eat the rude."

It's so true and that's what they deserve. I'm just so over it. I think I went and posted a similar topic in the chatterbox forum just to see what would happen and the most common comment was, well maybe hannibal isn't as good of a show as you think it is. I shook my head.

I think a couple things are responsible for Hannibal getting passed over:

* Horror is an under-appreciated genre (The Walking Dead didn't get nominations either, though I've heard the latest season was the best ever). stare

* People have a distorted idea of how disturbing it really is. C'mon, it's broadcast TV! No matter how scary it gets, there is a line they can't cross. It's a great show, and people are missing out. If you get really scared, hide your eyes like a little kid. Sheesh. You're willing to watch horror at the movies, why not on TV?!

The people who put together the nominations are perfectly willing to reward the graphic nudity, violence, rape, murder, and mutilation on Game of Thrones, but when it comes to even looking at another show, they turn into fainting Victorian ladies. rolleyes

One of my friends watches GoT, but is terrified of watching Hannibal. Some of the crap that goes on in GoT puts Hannibal to shame.

My other three close friends won't touch Hannibal with a ten-foot pole. Wusses.

If nothing else, Hannibal should have gotten a Cinematography nomination. The show is beautifully put together.

Mads deserved a nomination too, truthfully, as did the actor who played Mason Verger. God, he was spooky as hell.

Hugh was very good this season too. He's my favorite. heart

The Emmys are a bad joke! How many awards do shows like Breaking Bad and Mad Men really need/deserve? Total BS.

All of this. So true but you know what, I don't care for the Emmy's.
As much as I would love to have Hannibal win all awards (believe me, I feel that they deserve it), it does not make me love the show any less. I adore the show and that will not change. heart

We love something truly special. Worry not my dear Fannibals, Hannibal will get theirs blaugh

I agree. It's quite depressing that kids can go watch Jason butcher the entire cheerleading team and vote for it but GOD FORBID a show like Hannibal dares to enter in for a Emmy! I know kids that watch Breaking Bad but can't watch Hannibal! That just makes no damn sense to me!

The entire cast was wonderful their season and they do need some recognition for their hard work all around. I mean if American Horror Story: Coven (season 3 for the AHS) can make it, why can't Hannibal?!

Another show I wasn't surprised didn't turn up at the Emmy was Penny Dreadful (please correct me if I am wrong here!). I like the show well enough.
