As they started off together, Adalansia listened to Sounansha with rapt politeness. Seeing as how he was already a part of the longest conversation she'd ever had, she didn't want to ruin things by saying the wrong thing...as long as she new what the wrong things were, to avoid! She devoutly hoped her fascination with Sounansha and honest interest would help her out, when she eventually DID say one of those wrong things!

He certainly seemed to live an interesting life, though. "What do you hang off of on the beach, if I may ask? Does that mean you like to drape over a rock, or maybe a tree branch? I don't think I've ever seen anyone hanging out before, but I've also never been to the beach," She admitted with a slightly self-conscious shuffle of her mud-encrusted hooves. "Maybe that's why I didn't know your wings were actually fins!" Grinning, she peered at the appendages with slightly more interest. "Are you part fish, that you have fins? I've only ever heard of fish with fins. Though I guess I'm not part bird and I have wings..." She mused thoughtfully. What a mysterious group of creatures Soquili could be!

Sounansha liked this girl. Even if she seemed to be a little... flaky. But that's not always a bad thing! She certainly seemed like a nice enough mare. He could get along with her just fine. She didn't seem like she would be too terribly unpredictable or anything either. Being unpredictable... He sometimes couldn't take that. It brought him back to thoughts of his family.

Soun laughed a bit. "I'm sorry. I'm didn't mean actually hanging. I meant that I like to stay on the beach. It's where my home is, right near the water. I even have a little house!" He thought for a moment. "Though I guess sometimes I do 'hang' at the beach as well... I've draped myself over a rock a few times in my life. They are a wonderful place to warm up in the sun." He smiled at her widely. Her curiousity was rather amusing. Or maybe that wasn't the right word? Maybe it was a bit more... fun? Curiousity about things could always be fun. "I guess I'm part fish in a way." He flapped his tail fin a bit. "Though there are lots of us with fins in the water! Kelpies, Mers, Seathie, and I'm a Nixie." He smiled at her. She would probably enjoy meeting these other kinds as well. He's seen plenty of other kinds of Soquili that she would probably enjoy looking at. "We certainly are interesting creatures! And your wings are marvelous!"

If Adalansia could have heard Sounansha's thoughts, she would have been even more puzzled. Flaky, like flakes of snow? Was she coming apart, or did she have small flakes coming off of her hide? How very embarrassing that would be, if it was true! Fortunately, the kindly stallion kept those thoughts to himself, so she had one less perplexing puzzle to sort out as they walked along. Though he seemed to be very accommodating, explaining each strange thing he said in a way that ended up being very logical.

Though she still didn't understand why others didn't just state plainly what they meant! It was so easy to state the obvious, yet people went and used words and phrases that meant one thing when they really meant another! It was all so complicated...

"It sounds like a very...sensible system, Sounansha, especially the part about hanging on a rock on a hot day," Ada said with a smile. "I don't like the heat too much myself, but I don't think I've actually been the beach before. That's the sandy area by the ocean, right?" She was pretty sure she'd heard someone describe it before, at any rate..."And a nixie? I've never even heard of Nixies before, so it's no surprise I didn't know what you were. I'm a wind," she added in what she intended to be a helpful manner. "That's why I have feathered wings; I'm glad you like them!"

Sounansha could never imagine someone who didn't understand so much of expressions and different words used in different ways. He was used to the little other Soquili he encountered understand everything he said very plainly. Certainly there were probably more out there like herself. More who didn't understand what these expressions and words meant in the way he said them. He certainly enjoyed explaining these ways to her anyway. It was fun in a way. And certainly much like teaching a child. Things had to be explained much more plainly. He had always enjoyed meeting the few children he had.

"It is. I imagine that you must enjoy things that are sensible, yes?" He smiled and the mare as they continued on their way. "And on cooler days a nice warm rock is the perfect place to lay and rest." He giggled a bit as she asked what the beach was. He hadn't meant to be rude, of course, simply thought it rather silly that the mare hadn't truly known what a beach was. Even foals knew what the beach was, after all. "Yes. Beaches are the places right by the water where lots of sand is. The sand is usually nice and warm too! And the water cool and enjoyable." He pranced a bit. It was nice to change the pace a bit. Just to give his legs something different to do. "Yes! We are much like Kelpie, only smaller." He smiled at her as she explained herself. It was a funny thought to him that someone should think he had no idea what a wind Soquili was. After all, he lived on the land like herself. "Feathers are so nice to look at."

Given the choice between being regarded as a child or a simpleton, it was difficult to say which Ada would prefer. At least children had a cute quality about them; simpletons merely made people uncomfortable and attracted eyerolls. It would probably be better to be a child, honestly; though that ship had sailed a loooong time ago. While not tall for a Soquili mare, Ada was still well-beyond the height of any foal, and she was a bit on the chubby side to boot. If she WAS a filly, she would be a grossly unhealthy one!

But she wasn’t a filly, she was a mare, and she was a mare on a walk with a friend, having a proper conversation. This was fun! “I don’t think I’ve ever thought about it, to be honest. I like sensible things because they’re…well, sensible, you know? They make sense. But I don’t know if I enjoy them specifically because they’re sensible. Lying on a warm rock on a cool day sounds like it could be both fun and sensible. So does lying in the warm sand, actually; I bet that's really comfortable as well, you’d be able to take a really good nap there.” She paused then, considering for a minute before asking, “Doesn’t the ocean come up and cover the beach sand from time to time, though? I don’t think it would be pleasant to have the ocean cover you when you were sleeping.”

Adalansia was glad to have this chance to ask these questions; it was nice to not feel like she was being judged for not knowing things! “Um…what’s a Kelpi?”

Sounansha smiled at the mare. He enjoyed explaining things to her. She was sweet and kind. And had a very cool disposition about her. It was certainly a change of pace from other things that he had experienced from other Soquili. Not all were nice, after all. He was just fortunate enough to find one of the most kind ones he has ever met this time around. He would enjoy being friends with her for a long while to come. Hopefully she felt the same! They certainly got along well and seemed to think the same way, or at least he was able to explain himself to her easy enough. It was certainly unexpected to be able to answer her doubts and explain things to her that seemed strange but were so much more common to others.

"It is very nice to be able to lay on a warm rock, or in nice warm sand. The softer the sand, the better it is for resting." He smiled thinking about the beach. "It's even better when you burrow into the sand a bit more and cover yourself with the warm. Especially on cooler and breezier days on the beach. It's like having a nice warm blanket covering you." He pranced about a bit. It was a nice thing to think about. He then laughed a bit to himself thinking about when the water had, in fact, come up on him when he was sleeping. "It's certainly startling when you are already asleep and the water comes up to greet you. Though it's actually not something that would happen too often." He thought on it for a second. "Or at least not something that would happen to often as long as you didn't make your sand nest directly next to the water..." He looked at her thoughtfully, "It would be a silly thing to end up so close to the water and not end up with the water on top of you. The ocean moves so much that you would have to simply take it into account. Unless you were someone who enjoyed the ocean... I'm sure a Mer or a Seathi would make their own sand nests in a way that the water would always be over them. Since they live in the water, it would be a terrible thing indeed to end up no longer in any water."

Sounansha continued along with her as he heard her question. It was an interesting question indeed. One he had never actually been asked... After all, most knew what a Kelpi was. It was a rare thing to meet someone who didn't have the knowledge of a seemingly basic breed to someone like Sounansha. He thought on it a bit before he decided how he was going to respond to her...

"Kelpi are a bit... difficult to explain in a way. Though they are simple as well." He looked at her thoughtfully, "They look a lot like myself actually. Though much bigger, like yourself." He smiled at her widely as he thought how to explain it further. "They can live with both the land and the sea. It's an interesting life for sure. I enjoy swimming with the fishes and dancing among the trees myself." He smiled at her, hoping that she could at least understand his feelings. How wonderous it was to be able to experience both things. Things that just land walkers could never hope to imagine and, in turn, things that ocean dwellers could never even touch.

Adalansia tried to keep her expression 'politely neutral' while she listened to Soun's explanation, but she couldn't help the surprise from creeping in. Really, he liked to burrow into the sand? How extraordinary! She never would have considered sand burrowing to be a normal way to warm up; she'd only ever seen things like bugs and crustaceans do that sort of thing. Though she did have to admit that Soun had a few atypical qualities about him, those 'Nixie' things. Maybe a predisposition towards bug-like behaviors were included.

Though bug-like predispotions or not, being under the sand and having water rise up over you sounded terrifying! Shuddering, she shook her head vehemently at the very thought. "I do not know how you can do that, Soun; I would be extremely worried that I would drown in that situation. I do not not think I would enjoy the sand enough to offset the anxiety the situation would cause me. I think I'll leave the sand nests to the water-breathers, or at least the water-likers." That seemed a rational plan, and she liked rational plans.

And she also liked knowledge, so she dismissed the negative imagery associated with being drowned beneath the sand and listened to his short and pithy explanation about Kelpi. "They sound like peculiar creatures, compared to me, but I am sure I would be perceived as a peculiar creature to them," She added with a smile before adding a frank, "Though I do not want you to think that I feel peculiar is bad. It is something new! Though I don't know how much newness I can handle at once." Newness like dancing through trees. Was that really fun, she wondered? Because knowing her, it sounded like a good way to trip and fall and break her nose! She really wasn't the most coordinated of Soquili, and in some situations that was painfully obvious.

Sounansha smiled at the red colored mare. Talking about how different they were was interesting. And certainly a true statement! Though he laughed a bit under his breath when she mentioned drowning from the water. He guessed he should have explained to the darling mare that you didn't let the water wash over your face. That would be silly for most! You just allow the water to lightly come around the rest of your body. You don't want to get too water logged either after all. Sand was just a nice and comfortable way to try and get warm after a cold day swimming about in the water. Though he wondered if Adalansia had ever truly enjoyed being in the water. Or what she had truly enjoyed in general. Though the mare was clearly very comfortable in the things that she knew. Even if she was a bit more on the clumsy side, he was sure that she must have something that she enjoys. Something that doesn't make her so uncomfortable? He decided that maybe it would be best to ask her about such a thing. After all, he can't learn if he doesn't ask the question!

"You certainly don't let the water drown you. You make sure that you leave the sand if the water ends up that far up on you. Maybe even leave the area cause if the water comes up too far on the beach, a storm is probably on the way from over the water." He tilted his head a bit, "Well... I think that most things have some kind of peculiar element about them. Certainly between the types of Soquili in the world, wouldn't you say?" He smiled warmly at her and then continued his thought, "But that is also what makes it fun to learn about others! If we were all the same as everyone else, I don't think it would really be a very interesting world. If we all just walked on land. No one in the air or in the ocean." He mused the idea a bit more, " And we probably wouldn't know much about our world at all if we didn't swim and fly as well. How else would we travel large distances if there wasn't anyone with wings to fly over the mountains. And we certainly wouldn't know anything about the different fish if we didn't have Mers living in the deep waters around to report everything that they see." He smiled as he thought about it more, "We live in quite the place after all! We should all learn all we can about it."

He smiled at her widely before he decided how to pose his own questions to the mare. She was curious enough in her own right and he was interested about her opinions on all kinds of things! What did she actually think about the water and the sky itself? He decided that it would be best to start out with a couple of simple questions. "I have a couple of questions for you as well. I would enjoy knowing your view on the world itself. What do you think of the Soquili that fly? Have you met any?" He tilted his head a bit, "And I was curious as to what your favorite place or thing is? What do you enjoy over everything else in the world?" He smiled widely as the question left his mouth.

Well, Soun was definitely giving her a lot to think about; still the whole experience of being buried in the sand and immersed in water just seemed extremely risky to Ada. What if you got stuck in the sand? Wasn't quicksand made of sand and water? Could you get sucked down into the sand and never be seen again? What if you accidentally fell asleep and then the water rose too far? No, she would leave being buried in sand to Soun and those other bold souls who were willing to risk being buried alive. She appreciated the information and could definitely see that he was passionate about the experience...but no. Not for her.

So it was nice when Soun changed the subject, waxing poetic about the value of variety and expanding knowledge. Adalansia was honesly awed as she listened to him; he'd thought so much about this! She'd never really considered the importance of sharing knowledge; she'd only really been exploring for the sake of finding a place to be comfortable. But really, didn't she have the potential to meet new and different Soquili...or Nixies, like Soun? Couldn't she share what she herself knew?

"Wow, that is a neat way to consider travel and meeting new Soquili, Soun; I do not think I have ever really thought about it quite like that before. I like meeting new Soquili, but I guess I never really talked to anyone long enough to really share information." Sad, but true; still, that wasn't proving the case this time, and that was enough to make her smile. "But I am happy answer any questions you ask, as best I can. Did you know that I can fly," she asked in all seriousness as she flexed her wings. "I know that my wings aren not very colorful, but they do a good job holding me up. I do not really have a favorite place, but my favorite thing is probably making new friends. It does not happen very often for me, unfortunately," she said with a frown.

Sounansha smiled brightly. He was happy to see this mare seem so excited about what he had to say! It was certainly a newer thing for him. Generally only meeting others who live in or around the water, they knew about most things he himself knew about. It made it rather boring to stay in one place, but he didn't find it necessary to go off from the beach too often. Maybe he would have to do just that someday... Someday soon. As he thought of this, he shook his head to clear it. Now was certainly not the time to lament about a life lost when he was young enough to do plenty of exploring and learning yet still! After all he wasn't dead yet!

Smiling at the mare, he nodded to her, "I think that we could learn a lot about each other just by talking. And we can learn a lot about each others experiences too! Like what kind of food you prefer to eat. Or if you have a familiar." He looked about. Not having a familiar himself, he was always curious as to how that kind of bond worked. He would certainly enjoy having his own one day! He imagined that it was a lot like having a best friend with you at all times. Though he wasn't one hundred percent positive he knew what a best friend even was. As he had this thought, his face turned up into a strange expression and he decided that he would have to figure out what a best friend was one day soon. He couldn't have one if he didn't understand what they were after all.

"Oh! I had no idea that you could fly! I've seen some way up in the sky before, but I always assumed that I had been seeing things incorrectly and they were just really big birds." He blushed as he spoke, "Silly, I know. But not many really come to my beach. Or at least not many that don't come from the water itself." Looking her up and down, he admired her wings a bit. They were certainly interesting to look at. He wondered how exactly it was that they worked! Something that seemed so frail was able to do so much for the Soquili who had them! It was an amazing piece of evolution. Much like himself he imagined. There couldn't always have been Soquili in the ocean either. They had to adapt to the world! He suddenly felt inspired!

Turning his attention back to his new found friend, he decided to pose some questions and answer his own for her. "My favorite place is the beach. Though I guess that would be pretty obvious considering that's where I live. My own favorite thing is probably the ocean itself." He nodded, "Though I guess that would be pretty obvious too." He blushed a bit again, "If I had to choose a second thing though, it would certainly be learning new things! I love just learning about the world in general. I would guess because I don't get to learn much on the beach."

He turned his head in thought a bit as he considered some new questions, "How high can you fly? Can all of your family fly?" He looked at her for a moment, not sure if she would consider these questions as rude or not. It was certainly not his intention to be rude, of course! He was just a very curious fellow.
