Character Name: Kialynka
Clue followed: Other- Who has access to aniseed?
Course of action: The curse words eagerly stored away for future use. One never knew who one might need to impress. Smelly job, but she'd been doing worse, and he was talking. One thing really caught her attention. The aniseed bomb. Who would have access to the materials to make that? How rare was aniseed anyhow? She drops some casual questions among the drudges and cooks. If its a common substance they should know of it and its uses right?

Character Name: Brishen
Clue followed: Candidates
Course of action: Brishen needs to have a chat with Venk or Hiraeth. He doubts a candidate did it, but maybe they seen something and there is a lot of them. First though… Chessa needs a hug. So he gives her one and tells her ‘Things will get better’ before he goes off. He does stop at the kitchen to see if he can round her up something more filling then cake. Maybe some soup and rolls?
The little stop keeps him from impulsively hugging Venk. Though he is sure Venk needs a hug as well. Instead, he asks Hazmath if he could speak to Hiraeth and see if they are free to talk if any candidates were late or could have been in the area. Something like that. Hazmath is rather over excited to be part of an investigation.

Kialynka finds out from one of the cooks that aniseed is good to put in sweets and cakes, from a drudge that it gets rid of head lice, and from a passing healer that it helps with menstrual cramps. It seems to be available fairly widely and there's definitely some in the stores, though it likes warmer climates then High Reaches and has to be imported, so is a little expensive…
Hazmath gets very little response from Hiraeth, who is paying more attention to the skies then any errant weyrlings - though she does want to know why on earth Hazmath wants to know! Leave the investigating to the Investigators, sweetheart, you’ll be grown up soon enough.

Character Name: Bakarn
Clue followed: T'gall
Course of action: It's not so much that Bakarn thinks he's going to get useful information out of this, and more that he feels partially responsible. He set off a chain of events that ultimately ended in this; Bakarn's no ace sleuth, but it's his duty to offer help in whatever way he can. And while he's there, if he can learn anything about what happened...
---
Character Name: C'ross
Clue followed: G'vian
Course of action: Mob justice isn't C'ross' style, and he doesn't think G'vian did it. It's far too clumsy a set-up; G'vian had motive, certainly, but the former First Wingleader isn't a dimglow. He's got better means to his ends than committing an obvious crime where he'd be the first (only?) suspect.
At any rate, it's his duty as an investigator to examine all possibilities and not to decide guilt until there's solid evidence, and he'll tell G'vian so - quietly, but frankly. If there's any information G'vian can give him, any leads... He and Nimith will help find the truth.
---
Character Name: Natalya
Clue followed: Scent whers
Course of action: Natalya's got connections, and she knows wherhandlers well enough that she thinks she can get the inside story, if there's any inside story to be had. She respects her fellow handlers, and the social capital of a huntleader, combined with a well-spoken compliment or two in the right places on the swift and decisive way they handled the situation... Well, maybe it'll loosen a tongue or two. What do the handlers think of the whole thing?

Bakarn isn’t allowed in to see T’gall either. The journeyman healer outside his door is most insistent that the Weyrleader is resting… and not accessible for any weyrling who wants to just wander in. What if whoever did this comes back??? What happens then, huh?! He suggests that Bakarn goes and gets on with… whatever it is weyrlings do all day, he doesn’t know. If he’s got a present for the Weyrleader, hand it over and he’ll make sure it gets there.
C’ross finds that G’vian has nothing to say but his innocence. He seems to have aged over night, and certainly the stress on him is telling: his features are drawn, as if someone has sucked all of the strength out of him. It’s not a good look on the man who stood so tall for so long. He was in the baths for most of the evening: the first thing he knew was wrong was when his bronze was woken up by T’gall’s brown screaming its head off, and then he was arrested. Even if he'd wanted to kill the poser, he would have been smarter then this.
Natalya has contacts, sure, and she gets to use them. What she finds out is… mostly, a lot of pissed off handlers. The crowd drawn by that sharding brown screaming trampled right through the scene before they even got there, and then it looks like the perp dropped an aniseed bomb so they were trying to work out which trail was actually his. One of them did lead to the baths, but… well, it’s pretty circumstantial, and there were trails pretty much everywhere else in the Weyr. Wouldn’t hold up to being examined by a good harper. On top of that, there’s that sharding rogue wher - did she hear about that? Sure, she’d never do anything that dumb, but Herlen sure did...

Character Name: Vanavia

Course of action: Vanavia has no intention of investigating, but her and Horteth's curiosity soon get the better of them in regards to the whers. Her conversations are about whers as a species and their training, but she has to find a handler first.

Character Name: Kialynka
Clue followed: Other- Talk to the traders or trader children. Did they see an individual buy aniseed versus someone who commonly buys goods for the weyr?
Course of action: It was more common than she thought, with so many having possible access to it. That helped in its own way. Someone legitly taking any from stores might have been noted, and if it was stolen from stores that would raise alarms too. So one buys from the source: the traders who bring it in the first place. Kia mingles with the traders to ask a few questions of the adults, but she really wants to ask the children too.

Vanavia runs into - almost literally - one of the youngest of the new wherhandlers, who is delighted to talk about all that she’s learned. She is told all about treating croup in whers, why they’re always rebuilding the wherhandler’s quarters in search of a set-up that will stop stressing out their charges, and that she’s hoping her little blue will be a scent wher. She heard that whoever attacked the weyrleader dropped an aniseed bomb, so who even knows where the trail actually led?
Kialynka gets to chatting with some of the traders who’ve been temporarily trapped in the weyr - and who are generally Incredibly Pissed Off about it, because do you know how many marks they’re losing? This could be the difference between them surviving this winter and being reduced to drudges, shardit, no offence. If the council doesn’t offer them compensation, there’s going to be a riot on their hands. They weren’t carrying aniseed oil on this trip, as the crop down south hasn’t been processed yet. The children are less bothered, and one of them tells Kialynka that she saw a wild wher on the way here! She did! She’s promptly told to shut up, and that she saw no such thing.

Character Name: C'ross
Clue followed: The baths
Course of action: That's... pretty much exactly what C'ross expected to hear, honestly. It's a long shot, but C'ross is going to investigate the baths. Did anyone see G'vian go in? Can any witnesses confirm that he was there when T'gall was attacked?
---
Character Name: Natalya
Clue followed: Herlen
Course of action: Poor fellow. Natalya can sympathize, really - who wants to see a wher culled? And maybe a kind word and an attentive ear will get some useful information out of him. Has the stray wher been found yet? Was it confirmed that the wher was responsible for Merinde's death, or just suspected?

Character Name: Mahyra
Clue followed: Death in the Weyr
Course of action: Gossip in the kitchens! Mahyra isn’t so much investigating the death as she is trying jump into the cooking fray; over her years as a Candidate, this has been a not-infrequent occurrence. She just wants to talk and help make food and maybe snag some tastes, and if she happens to hear something useful, she'll stuff it into the back of her mind for later (when there's no gossiping to be done!).

Character Name: Kialynka
Clue followed: A death in the Weyr
Course of action: Kia listens sympathetically. She can rather relate to being trapped in the weyr, though anything she says is mentioned in vague terms. They're still able to do some trading here couldn't they? At least until the ban is lifted. None of course taken. She wouldn't be a drudge here either if given the choice.
The teen thanks the traders for their time and moves off. Without carrying aniseed oil this trip that meant it could only come from one location. Stores. But what the child said too also struck a chord. Kia makes her way to the scene of the supposed wher attack to look for clues how it might have gotten in. And to speak with the family of the drudge.

Hazmath is told very firmly to take it to the Senior Investigator, sweetie, and to stop worrying his little head about this sort of thing. Grandmother is busy, darling.
C’ross finds it difficult to find any witnesses - no-one can specifically remember talking to G’vian, but that’s not unusual after the incident at the feast. One of the drudges who was tending the baths does remember that when they took G’vian away, no-one could find his clothes. He had to go and fetch him a fresh tunic, under escort.
Natalya finds a freshly sobbing - and very drunk - Herlen. Still under the hammer of investigation (and definitely no longer the head of a hunt), he tells her all about that poor little blue runt, and how he couldn’t have killed anyone, he just couldn’t bear to put him down, he was so smart.
Mahyra hears a good deal of gossip. Apparently the Senior Investigator has been around the kitchen asking questions about poor Merinde. She turns up what seems to have been an undercurrent of dislike towards a woman who seems to have been quarrelsome and difficult to get along with at the best of times, and who seems to have thought that she was smarter then she really was…
Kialynka finds the stores seriously torn up - boxes thrown around, and people trying to make tallies and work out what’s salvageable. Too many people have been through by now to really get a picture of the scene, and she has a little more luck trying to track down her family. The children in the creche are fairly easy to find, but it turns out that they are only vaguely aware of their mother: she wasn’t at all a presence in their lives.

Character Name: Mahyra
Clue followed: Merinde’s sister
Course of action: Like moth to the flame, Mahyra is drawn to M'dre's side when she hears of her distress. She snags a treat of the kitchen and seeks out Merinde's sister, intending to offer her food, company, a sympathetic ear, or whatever else she may want.

Character Name: Bereck
Clue followed: Autopsy report
Course of action: In a (relatively) quiet moment Bereck locates Amarid in her office to quizz her on her findings in more detail, and to ask to see the body himself. He is one of her trauma experts after all... and she didn't seem to spend all that much time on her examination.
