"I see--" Finn began, but soon enough found himself under fire from a wicked looking beam of light that shot out of Oliver's weapon. Ducking and cringing behind his lance, he attempted to deflect what was sent shooting his way, though it seemed that the young mans inability to aim properly was what really saved him from a sound battering.

The light vanished, and Finn straightened, his smile gone as he narrowed his eye at the life trainee.

"Is this better?" He mocked, stepping forward to send a spinning slash Oliver's way.

"N-no!" Oliver yelped, trying to scramble backwards as he was struck again. Somehow even that cold smile had been better than nothing, a trace of humour, without which Finn began to look less like a somewhat sadistic friend and more like a ruthless killer. And an angry one at that. Nope, the smile was definitely better!

Although the kid was really starting to look the worse for wear, he somehow managed to get the large axe moving again. For a second he left himself open to attack, but it was quickly covered by the swing of his blade.

The ax barreled into Finn with enough force to send him back several steps, though with the long reach of his lance, it didn't take much for him to get back within striking distance. However, he didn't swing at the other man right away, instead leveling him with a smirk. "Well aren't you just the fussy little princess." He mocked, hands gripping the shaft of his weapon tight, fingers twisting around it as he found a need to hold it even tighter within his grasp.

"I'll tell you what, Oliver. It's no my smile, or lack thereof that you should be afraid of." He was pacing in a slow circle around the younger man now, feet crossing with each step, knee's slightly bent.

"It's just me." He deadpanned, before suddenly lifting his weapon up to swing over top of his head and then downward in a sweeping arc, putting nearly all of his strength and weight into a swing that might have been enough to cleave a skull in two if not for weapon provided shields and training field buffers.

Oh well.

Oliver truly thought he was done for. He had been told about the buffers and how it was safe on the training field, no attacks here would be able to kill him. But emotions separated completely from logic when faced with such an attack. The kid closed his eyes as he flinched backwards...

And when he opened them again, he realized he was sitting on the ground. Had his legs given out? Jökul made a rumbling sound in the back of his mind, but he barely listened. For a second the kid blinked, wide-eyed and stunned, the weapon in his hands feeling too heavy even while resting on the ground as it was. How had he not died. Why was... His head hurt.

Oliver tentatively reached up, but before his fingers made contact a drip of blood ran down his forehead.

"Finn..." He said, sitting very still, his voice wavering. "D-do I still... I-is... I-I still have a skull, right?" It was a pretty extreme leap, but Oliver had never experienced the breaking of his FEAR shield before, and had never witnessed firsthand how much even a light scalp wound could bleed. All things considered, he was starting to look like he was in danger of passing out just from the emotional shock of it all.

Finn couldn't honestly say that he had ever managed to break anybodies shield before now, even though being on the training field as they were, it meant very little to do so. It wasn't anything obvious, nothing really having changed at all. He didn't feel anything really give beneath his weapon, save for Oliver's entire body as it crumpled to the ground. It didn't somehow make him feel more powerful. He didn't really feel anything.

He was breathing a little bit heavily from the physical exertion of that final blow, and as soon as Oliver fell, Finn was desummoning his weapon, looking down at the younger man while only feeling mild concern. There was no way he was actually, seriously hurt. Finn himself had taken an axe to the head during the tournament that Bix had put on several months ago, and while it had made him a bit dizzy and okay, had given him a massive headache, it really hadn't been that bad.

He crossed his arms over his chest while waiting for Oliver to get his bearings back, though when that little bit of blood fell he did have a moment to wonder if the buffers weren't quite up to snuff.

Ah well, the other man was still alive, and likely not in any need of medical attention, that much he was fairly sure of at least.

"Of course you do." He gave his head a small shake and sighed before kneeling down next to Oliver, pulling both of his gloves and tossing them to the ground before grabbing the other man by either side of his head. "Here, let me have a quick look. I'll make sure your brains aren't leaking out of your ears."

Oliver looked up from the blood on his fingers, and gave Finn a nervous stare. The little drip of blood was hardly visible beneath his dark bangs. Despite his tendency to panic at the drop of a hat, Finn's rough reassurances kept him from completely freaking out.

He waited, obedient and docile, trusting his poor aching skull to Finn's care. "I-it wouldn't... I-it's not, is it?" Oliver asked, naturally referring to having his brains leaking out his ears. Logically he knew it couldn't happen, not just like that, but... how would he know for sure? What if it was?
