Molly let out a bit of a yelp as Alistaire got her with his weapon, but the brief sting was quickly forgotten in favor of what the other trainee had said. Molly blinked and then look incredibly hopeful, smiling once more. "You do? That's wonderful!"

She beamed.

"Who is it...?" She gasped. "Oh! If it's alright that I ask..." Molly looked a bit sheepish then.

His face flushed a deep shade of crimson. Alistaire fumbled with the knives in his hands, and for once the clink of the chains were not as reassuring as he'd like them to have been. He gave Molly a piercing sort of look, as though trying to discern an ulterior motive; but she was just like she appeared: someone simple minded and naive, with every emotion right on their face.

"Er," said Alistaire, and he felt oddly nervous. He pulled the chains towards him, reeling them in and beginning to wind them around his wrists just for something to do with his hands. The thing to do now was to be casual about it, to be simple because if he acted strangely, then she would realize something was different.

"His name is Harland," said Alistaire smoothly, and flung the knives towards her. He missed by a longshot, which was both annoying and frustrating. "He's a Death Hunter trainee."

It felt weird.

Alistaire's piercing looks also flew over Molly's head, but she didn't miss the way his face turned red. After lightly jabbing his shield again after he missed her, Molly paused, her brows furrowing in concern. "Ah...are you alright?" She asked, worry evident in her tone.

"Your face is all red!" Molly let out a happy gasp though, as Alistaire talked about his 'friend'. She looked pretty delighted. "That's wonderful! How did you two meet?"

Why was she still asking questions. And why did her questions have to be about himself, why couldn't she have been asking questions about other people instead (not Harland), about training, about fighting, about anything and anyone other than Harland Leander Belle.

Alistaire tried to keep calm.

"He's...a friend of my brothers," he said, which wasn't really the right answer, but it was at least a substitute; though remembering the way Harland had talked about Ian the night they had met had made him slightly nauseated. Alistaire's fingers curled a little tighter around the handles of his daggers.

"We have...similar interests," said Alistaire, which was another lie, because there could not have been two more opposite people than he and Harland Leander Belle, and the knives careened towards Molly's side.

Molly made a humming sound of "oooh", nodding her head a bit as well. She let out a yelp as their spar picked back up with a jolt, reminding her, in fact, that they were indeed sparring. That being said, she raised her weapon back up, and charged the trainee again.

She still wanted to keep the conversation going though, because she was genuinely curious. "What kind of interests?"

Out of all the questions to have asked, that was the one that Alistaire had hoped she would forget the most.

And of course she asked it. He twisted the chains, feeling the lance smack his side, and Alistaire nearly toppled over, stumbling and tripping and sliding until he managed to regain some of his footing. He pulled himself back upright, took a breath, and swiped his hand through his hair.

"...diverse ones," said Alistaire evasively. "I, ah...Harland has been...teaching me...some skills that he possesses."

It was, quite possibly, the worst answer he had ever given in his life.

Molly stared at Alistaire with wide and eager eyes, and a little smile. Waiting to hear details. Well...Molly wasn't a nosy person, but usually when someone described stuff they went into a little more detail...so Alistaire's lack of detail was kind of odd to Molly. So thus she kept staring at Alistiare, waiting, lightly clipping him with her weapon.

Staring, waiting.

"Uh huh...?" She continued, waiting for him to elaborate more.

And of course she wanted to know what sort of things they were doing. Alistaire heaved a sigh, sidestepped most of her weapon, and smoothed down the front of his coat for approximately the fifth time in as many minutes. It was a nervous habit, one he'd been tying to break.

Alistaire ground his teeth together.

"Yes," he said. "I have...a condition. Harland has been...my assistant" (wrong word, he thought wrong word) "this time around. He has an intelligence that is not well known that I have taken advantage of."

Molly gasped loudly as Alistaire said 'condition' and the trainee immediately looked worried. She had barely clipped Alistaire once more before the tip of her lance had dropped to the ground once more and a hand reached up to cover her mouth. She stared at him for a long moment.

"A condition...?" She echoed. "...It's nothing bad, is it?" The thought of poor Alistaire suffering somehow was just awful!

She was not letting it go. He knew this had been a mistake, should have known that talking to anyone at all was not a good thing. This was exactly why he had kept his distance from people, because too many prying questions led to too many answers or too many avoided answers. Alistaire had never before been in the habit of lying; most of the time he was the opposite, brutally and often times cruelly honest, because he had never seen the point otherwise.

But now he was stuck; now he was in the sort of situation he tried deliberately to avoid, because no one, no one knew those parts of him that he kept so dearly hidden except for perhaps Harland, and maybe Ian, and even then Alistaire kept a great deal of things from him.

Come to think of it, Alistaire realized with a jolt, there was one other person who knew his secret, a person who both disgusted and fascinated him; and that was leverage against him. Perhaps if he told another soul, it would have less of an impact; it would no longer be blackmail, but merely a fact.

It was the only way.

"I..." he said, and his throat felt thick. He tried to act calm, as though it were no big deal. "I don't like touching people."

And then it was there, for all to see, and he felt nauseated just saying the words aloud. He wanted to drop his daggers and go running back inside, wanted to bury himself not in his own room, but in Harland's, because Harland knew and he understood.

He gritted his teeth and swung the daggers a little harder than he'd intended

Ever the patient soul, Molly didn't rush, nor did she sport an anxious or judgmental look. She simply waited...though the trainee couldn't help but wince as Alistaire clocked her shield pretty hard. It was a battle reaction instinct she picked up over the past few years to counter attack, and it was quick and it was decisive as Molly pierced the last of his shield. As soon as she did so she immediately stepped back, and de-summoned her weapon, letting the lance slide back onto her wrist as a spiral bracelet.

She then looked at Alistaire a bit lost. He was...all bent out of shape about that? That's what his condition was?

Molly then cracked a genuine smile, full of relief. "That's alright." She said, her voice full of earnest, and laced her fingers together over her stomach.

With a sharp snap somewhat like a bubble bursting, Alistaire felt the last remnants of his FEAR shield break as Molly's lance careened into him, sending him staggering sideways, where he collapsed onto the ground. Grimshaw was desummoned quickly, dissipating in a flash of pale gray light and reforming as the two silver, chain-link bracelets on his wrists, just below his sleeves but just above his gloves. He stayed there where he was, one knee bent beneath him, the other bent in front of him, and tried to catch his breath.

That's okay.

It confused him. Why was she telling him it was okay? It wasn't okay, because okay was such a subjective term. She knew that he had this condition, and yet she was telling him that there was nothing wrong with him, and a strange irritation flared through Alistaire. He gritted his teeth together, slowly pushing himself back to his feet.

"You," he said tightly, his fingers curling together against his palm. "Are you mocking me, Miss Finn?"

"Ah!" Molly immediately started forward after knocking Alistaire to the ground, uncurling her fingers from her stomach, but just after a few steps, she immediately came to a stop. He didn't like being touched. Well...hrm...this was a tough situation! She didn't just want to leave him on the ground but she didn't want to make him uncomfortable either--

But he was getting up, so that was good, and then--

Molly blinked, confused at this question. "...No...?" She started and then trailed off, blinking some more. "It's not nice to mock someone...and there's nothing to mock you for..." Her brows knitted.

Molly Finn was supposed to have been just a simple person; a naive sort of person that was easily malleable, someone he could probably use as the means to an end more so than anything else. She was too easy to read, too easy to figure out, and yet she was standing here, talking about how it was okay that he had this condition and it made him sick to his stomach.

No one had ever said that it was okay except for Harland, and even then Alistaire had brushed it off as just Harland being Harland. Harland, who had said that he would help him, that he would wait for him, that he would always be there for him. Harland, who was rather like Molly, with everything right on the surface, so open in his emotions and his affections.

Harland, who Alistaire needed and yet still couldn't decipher, and that - all of that - scared him to death.

"Why..." Alistaire started, through gritted teeth, and then he stopped, his hands, which had started to shake, clenched into fists at his sides. "Why do you say that it's okay? There's obviously something wrong with me, why are you treating this as though it's nothing?"
