Though battle was a necessity and he’d learned not to hold back on account of his feelings, Shiloh couldn’t help but grimace as Haruko connected solidly with Alistaire’s side. Just because he knew he wasn’t supposed to feel bad, didn’t mean he ever stopped. Pain was pain and even if it was someone he wasn’t particularly fond of… Well, he never wished them any ill will. Or a least, he tried not to, though sometimes he thought he wouldn’t minded if a few people decided to find themselves another island. While Alistaire regained himself, Shiloh took the opportunity to pull back Haruko’s chain, coiling her around his arm again. She was heavy, though, which always made his reload time slow. While her power was great, she was a bit of an unfortunate anchor, as evidenced by the sharp slashes that found his legs from Alistaire’s blades as he found himself unable to untangle himself in time, tethered to the large iron jaws on the ground. “Well, that not very smart,” he managed to counter through gritted teeth. He didn’t have enough space to launch Haruko so he snapped her head up into his arms instead, lunging at Alistaire with her like a makeshit battering ram. “Judging a fight before it’s even started, then of course you’re gonna get surprised. Ready to admit defeat yet?” He grinned. HP: 29 DMG: 8

He'd managed to at least knock Shiloh back a few paces with his next few slashes, and Alistaire was about to reel backwards, out of the line of fire, but he was too slow. Shiloh's weapon careened forward, the massive jaws snapping at him like a heavy weight against his torso, and Alistaire staggered. He stumbled backwards, nearly falling over, but managed to keep his balance at the last second.
It was very irritating, to have lost to this man, and they both knew he had, in spite of Alistaire's pride. Shiloh was one level above him, both in experience and ability, at least for the current moment, and he took a breath, as well as a step backward. The polite thing to do would be to offer a handshake and accept his defeat with grace and dignity, but since this was Alistaire, he did neither of those things, instead just standing there staring at Shiloh with an inscrutable expression on his face.
"I don't judge anything, Mr. Parish," he said finally. "I merely observe the situation from the get-go."
He desummoned Grimshaw, who disappeared in a whirl of sound and snapping of teeth inside of his thoughts. Alistaire lifted his chin and surveyed Shiloh, dark eyes carefully calculating his opponent. Perhaps he'd been mistaken after all.
(He didn't like admitting to his mistakes.)
"I thank you for your time, Mr. Parish," he said, inclining his head slightly - only just slightly - in Shiloh's direction. "Please do tell Ian hello for me, since I assume that you will see him before I do."

Shiloh on the other hand, did extend his, after he’d caught his breath and straightened himself up. It’s not like he expected much, but Alistaire had fought well, even though he was a level lower, he had still managed to hold his own and Shiloh could respect that. So he offered his hand even as Alistaire stood there, though somehow, unsurprisingly, his glove was considerably less pristine than the Life hunter’s. You observed wrong, some childish part of him clucked in his head, much to the amusement of Haruko, who spilled over with giggling somewhere in the back of his mind. “My pleasure,” was what he said out loud and it wasn’t totally a lie. If he reasoned it, he did enjoy practicing and, as anyone would, he thoroughly enjoyed winning. He felt a little triumphant even, because though he’d had an advantage, he at least hadn’t lost face in front of Alistaire and he could hope that he had maybe proved himself, if only a little. Not that he expected or wanted Alistaire’s approval, but being that he was Ian’s brother and that they were stuck together on an island, he couldn’t avoid him forever. “Don’t worry, I’m sure I will. He’s probably back at our room by now, so I should get going, wouldn’t want to keep him waiting." He flashed Alistaire his most victorious grin, hand still outstretched. He didn't care if it was awkward.

Alistaire gave Shiloh's outstretched hand a wary look, inhaling a sharp breath. He could see the grass stains across the palm of the glove, the small specks of dirt, and it was as though his gaze was laser focused towards them, hardly focusing on anything else at all. He took a sharp breath, and flicked his gaze back to Shiloh's face, trying to ignore the disgust that had threatened to well deep in the pit of his stomach.
He almost reached out and took it. Almost. Maybe he even would have flashed a (cold) smile at Shiloh and taken his hand, like a mature adult would have, ignoring the discomforting, sickening sensation the dirt brought him - were it not for the bomb that was dropped not a second later.
"He's probably back at our room by now."
Alistaire stared at Shiloh, at the self-satisfied, victorious smile, and the expression on his own face became a scowl, Alistaire's lips twisting downwards. He swayed a little where he stood, opening his mouth as though to say something and then clamping it shut again, annoyance sweeping over him.
Shiloh had completely beaten him this time, in more ways than one, and they both knew it.
Without another word, Alistaire turned from Shiloh and walked swiftly away, entirely intent on finding his brother and demanding an explanation because he was most definitely owed a damn explanation.
