When the blanket was pulled away fingers futilely reached for another one as if it would help hide what was already painfully obvious. Maebe was there though the way she always was, up close and personal when you were least expecting her and sometimes least wanting her to be. Cami wasn't ready to have her eyes exposed, wasn't ready to have her fears and her feelings laid out so raw when they'd snuck up on even her, but the blonde was having none of it. A hand reached out to grasp the older woman's chin, turning blue eyes towards blue.

'You're not stupid, are you?'

A laugh bubbled out but not a good one. "Of course I'm stupid! Otto tells me all the time that I'm being dumb. Acting dumb. Corny. Ridiculous. Silly. I'd have loved you even if you told me flat-out you'd never love me and I was just a soft Saturday because that's just what I do. Love isn't a zero-sum game or even balancing scales because it'll never work out. It just...it just is." Snagging Maebe's hips she pulled so that Maebe fell into her lap, hugging tightly. "I'm stupid and I am scared. Scared I'll be replaced in your life. Or Otto's life." It was getting dangerously close to a confession and since Maebe had made one, Cami would make one too.

"I worry a lot about him, more than you, because...well I don't have the words for it but I know I do something for you that nobody else does. Otto? Not so much. I hug him, cheer him up, make sure he doesn't sleep alone but if he has you..." She trailed off. "I am officially jealous and scared and at the same time happy because you two are so good together." Fingers gripped at Maebe's shirt, twisting the fabric slightly, unconsciously in her hands.

"I'm stupid."

Maebe believed, to her core, that this was about balancing scales. But she said nothing, but she particularly liked how much Cami disagreed with it. She fell into Cami's arms when she was pulled closer, and her own arms snaked around to grip and cuddle where she could.

"You are stupid." Maebe agreed, with a very soft, amused tone. It was hard to believe how ridiculous all of this really was. "And I am, too. Because I'm in a constant state of fear over the same damn thing every time I'm in my room, lying in bed, thinking too hard about what I've gotten myself into. You're so blind, you don't see what you give Otto - what you give me. You're irreplaceable to the both of us. But I'm the one who could disappear, without a trace. And you two would still be fine."

Honesty. This was what honesty had gotten them. Was Cami regretful, yet? "You're stupid. I hope you remember that, the next time you're curled up in bed with him, or you make him smile, or you make him stronger, and all I'm doing is confusing the both of you." She pinched Cami's side, her lips thinning into a smug smirk. "But don't you ever, for one second, get stupid enough to think that either of us are ever going to find a replacement for you. Ever."

And that was the problem. If that was even an option, this would be easier. "You think we're good together. I think you're good together. God knows what Otto even thinks of all of this. All I know is, those sentences just feel wrong. But you know what feels right?"

Maebe looked viciously smug. Dangerous, even. Probably not the best person to get advice from, at that moment. "That we are so good together. All three of us, stupid."

Cami got a pinch to her side but Maebe got one straight on her a** at the idea that both she and Otto would be just fine without Maebe. "I know this is going to come back and bite me but I don't give two ******** right now. Otto needed someone to pull him out of whatever funk he was in and I couldn't do what you did. I can keep him from being lonely but you gave him back his spirit and that's so important, Maebe. You're important." Whether she wanted to be or not it couldn't be denied that Maebe Grace Bertrand was vitally important to both inhabitants of 220.

Ever felt good. Ever felt great. But it was the mention of we that had everything inside of Camille feeling like a Fourth of July firework in the way it was warm, it fizzled, it exploded, it was beautiful. "I know what Otto thinks of you." It was said with a smug note in her voice as fingertips wandered all over every bit of Maebe she could reach, threading through her hair to hold. The idea of all three of them was something she knew her blonde sweetheart had tried to make happen at least that warm afternoon when both Cami and Otto had thwarted her plans.

Yet could Cami be with Otto that way? Well, it wouldn't be hard. He was attractive and if he could keep Maebe happy and engaged then he couldn't be bad in bed. Cami had enough faith in Maebe's needs and somewhat-shallow attitude towards sex (that Cami herself shared to be honest) to have worked that one out. Gnawing on her lower lip she let out a breath, tipping her head backwards to rest on the back of the couch. "I remember the Tower. We were good together but..." Without even lifting her head it shook in the negative.

"I know what you're getting at and I even if I were willing to go for it, I don't think Otto would do anything but be horrified. I don't think he's the kind of guy to have two girls at once and I like living here. I need Otto." Now she lifted her head to lean in and kiss Maebe softly. "And you don't have to ever lay alone downstairs and worry. You can come up here and be with the two of us for sleep and cuddles whenever you want. You know that." Another light kiss. She was getting sidetracked.

Zeroing back down and because Cami was the kind of girl who liked hearing things almost as she liked feeling them, she wiggled a bit. "So do you think we're good together, Maebe Grace? Do you...." She trailed off, narrowed her eyes, and spit the word out. "Do you love me like I love you?"

Maebe didn't argue with that - she had scraped Otto out of the funk that Nevada's death had put him in. She'd done that for all of the wrong reasons, and she'd done it in the hopes that he would taint, and turn wicked and cruel, just as she was.

But he didn't.

Instead, he scraped her up off the floor, and gave her something to hold on to. Something that scared and thrilled her, at the same time. And he'd given her Cami, who was doing something even more miraculous.

Cami showed her what people meant, when they used the word love and meant it.

But Otto would be horrified, and Cami would lose something so much more important to her than sex. Maebe deflated, but conceded the point. For now. If only because it gave her time.. and time was all a girl like her needed.

"I know you guys are okay with me up there. But I'm not. Because you guys found each other. Me, I just slammed my way in. I might be jealous, but not jealous enough to take away the bond that was there before I was."

There was a time when asking a girl like Maebe if she loved them was the best way to make her leave. That time had come and gone, but the urge was still there in her bones, aching to pull her away from Cami and hole herself up. She lifted one side of her smile with a twitch, and slowly settled in against Cami, finding the soft curves that fit her needs with only the slightest adjusting.

"That's ridiculous." She murmured. "No one will ever be able to love anyone, the way you love. That's why Otto needs you. Why I need you. Because you love us in a way that we can't live without." She leaned up, and kissed Cami's chin. Then she smirked.

"So no, Cami. I don't love you like you love me. I love you in the only way I can. The only way I know how."

A long sigh, contentment threaded through every single inflection and every inch of Cami's face, slid through the living room as Maebe settled against her. There might be a time in the future where someone declared their love, asked for hers in return, and Maebe ran but she would not run from Cami and that was all that mattered. The redhead wasn't in the business of fixing people because people weren't broken and even if they were, that was their problem. She was in the business of making people happy, including herself, and sometimes that meant pushing a bit.

Another exasperated sound slipped out. "Maebe, do you even know how Otto and I met because I met you on the same day. Everyone was ragging on you about giving Otto an STD, convinced me that d**k centipedes were a thing, and I brought him ice cream to cheer him up. You never took me up on my offer but you definitely got to Otto before I did." Another pinch to Maebe's posterior that was actually more like a squeeze, nails digging lightly into the meat of her a** because why not enjoy herself?

Maebe's answer about love actually pleased Cami right down to her toes because it was right and honest. It wasn't some offhand attempt to placate. "Well you don't have to love me like I love you, it was a badly-phrased question. I want you to love me in your way because it's you that I love and it's your love that I want." There wasn't time or desire to talk for the next few minutes as hands wandered beneath Maebe's shirt and lips lingered on her own.

Pulling back slightly her voice was quiet because Cami knew she was intruding. "If you don't want to come upstairs I can come down. Or I suppose Otto would come down if you asked, but I know we both want you up here. Sleeping all three of us tangled together is the best feeling in the world, waking up both of you near me makes me so happy." Fingers skimmed through blonde locks, tugged lightly.

"Don't shut yourself out because you think you're breaking in on something. If there's a we, if we are going to be good together, that means you belong. You can't break in on something you belong to."

Whoops.

"You met Otto the same day you met me?" Maebe lifted her head, and her expression was comically confused. "You guys feel like you've known each other forever. What a bunch of jerks you are."

But even though it pleased her thoroughly to know that Cami genuinely wanted her there, it wasn't Cami's room exactly, and Maebe was still remarkably stubborn on the point. "It is nice." She admitted. "But it's for the best, this way." She kissed Cami's lips, just once. "Trust me."

She wouldn't.

"However, I certainly wouldn't mind staying tonight. As long as you're still.. okay. About, you know." Her cheeks tinted with red. "What I said about Otto."

Because like hell was she ever saying that s**t out loud, ever again.

Cami couldn't help but laugh at Maebe's confusion and pique that Otto and Cami had known each other perhaps only days longer than Maebe and Cami had. "Yeah, well, I am pretty sure that Otto and I know each other from another life. This is the first life I've known you in." She was hopeful it wasn't the last. Reincarnation was probably a silly thing to believe in for a girl who went to church every Sunday and on the holidays, like a good Catholic, up until she went to college. She was baptized, communized, confirmed in the Lord and believed that there was a God.

Cami wasn't a blind believer and had, piece by piece, cobbled together a faith that comforted her. She still said the rosary but it wasn't perhaps in the exact same mien as others that did. Which was all well and good because no two people had the same minds -- how could they possibly have the same beliefs? Her belief that at the end of this life she would be born again and perhaps even meet the same souls she'd spent previous lives with was a comfort and an incentive. She was a firm believer in the red thread.

Of course Cami didn't trust Maebe in this. It wasn't better this way and the blonde had even admitted it, in her own way, but the Sun trainee was not going to infringe on the other woman's need for solitary moments and a place to retreat if she felt smothered. Otto didn't mind being smothered, for the most part, and Cami was dying to be smothered. They worked in a way that she wasn't sure Maebe could live in every day which was alright.

As long as she lived in it at night.

Walking her fingers up Maebe's spine they caught at fabric and unlatched critical support. "I know a way to make everything okay." What better way to reassure Cami that you still cared than with skin, with lips, and with fingertips? She had yet to think of one.
