Nicolae breathed a sigh of relief when the last bit of armor was laid down on the ground. He could almost feel the aggravation radiating off the mare, even more so whenever he accidentally brushed against her. It was very easy to see that she did not relish any part of his company, and he didn't want to force her to endure his touch any longer than necessary.
Apparently he had finished just in time. Only a moment after he set down the final piece, rain began to fall. It was sparse for now, but the droplets were thick. He knew it would not be long until rain was falling in sheets. The droplets made little tinging noises as they hit the metal of the armor. It was beautiful in a way, sounding like strange music.

Just to be sure, Verity stepped away from the armor by a few lengths and indicated that Nicolae should do likewise. There was no one else about in this weather to snatch it away, and it was better safe than sorry where lightning was concerned. The rain started pouring in earnest then. It soaked through her fur in a matter of seconds and soon started work in making her hair a sodden mess. She'd probably have to find a friendly raccoon or human to be able to set it to rights, but she was more concerned about her bandaged wing. They would need to be dressed again after a soaking, to make certain infection didn't occur.
The chill came along with the rain. Even her folded wings couldn't keep all of the water off her back. Grudgingly, she moved closer to Nicolae. Their sides brushed for a moment, then she moved the rest of the way against him. This was not a matter of romance, it was simply an animal need to share warmth.

Nicolae didn't like heavy rain any more than any other soquili. His mane and tail were both thick and heavy, soaking up the water like sponges. His mane often grew wild in the humidity, and this rain would ensure that it was a fluffy mess for days. He sighed to himself, but said nothing. Somehow he didn't think the stoic Verity would be impressed by him moaning over his hair.
He was surprised to see her moving closer as the rain grew heavier, and even more surprised when she pressed herself against him. She said nothing, leaving him with no explanation. Had she changed her mind about her distant behavior? He tried not to over think it as the storm continued to whirl around them.

The storm carried on for hours, Verity lost count. She became wet to the bone, but it wasn't long before she stopped noticing. In times like this, she simply adjusted her expectations. If she did not expect dryness, she would not be frustrated to have it denied her. Being cold and wet was simply a way of being for a period of time.
Heavy as the storm was, it still passed in time. The rain slowed to a drizzle, and then to a sprinkle. It was then that she pulled away from Nicolae, shaking her mane to fling away a few of the extra droplets. "I'm leaving now," she said, with little emotion.

The clouds were beautiful as the rain slowed, Nicolae couldn't help but notice that. They still were dark, but light was starting to shine through the upper layers. He felt a sense of peace fill him, one that was a little disrupted when Verity pulled away. He hadn't realized how much he had grown to enjoy her warmth until she was no longer by his side. Her scent still hung in the air between them, sweet enough to make his fangs ache.
"Do you live nearby?" he asked, hoping that there might be a way to see her again after their brief interlude together. She didn't answer him, only gathered up her armor and then flew away. Nicolae felt a pang of regret as she did. He had the feeling he wouldn't be seeing her again.
