It wasn't that Taym wanted to pry (he didn't although he had a shameless gossip streak). It was just that these were alarming, uncomfortable things to hear on the eve of a transfer, even though Taym, admittedly, was a born self-starter provided he was trying to stave off boredom which, ever since coming to the Island, removed from his usual distractions, he was.

Talking about weaponization was not the solution here; Taym knew very little and wanted to know even less. Too many people he'd spoken to had seemed to think that it occupied a moral grey area and he didn't want to find out that Otto was one of them. Instead he latched, hard, onto the rest of it. "Yeah but--did you have a purpose? Or did you just have a ******** schedule? Because the one thing ain't the other. Like, go make yourself a docket, if all you need is your time filled up."

Otto's accent was threatening to make his own crawl back in, he realized irritably.

He paused consideringly for a long time--long enough to get a second crane half-folded despite his uncooperative hands.

"I am under the impression," he said finally, diplomatically, "that some divisions are more encouraging of independent, self-guided goals than others. I was looking at that as a good thing. I'm going to assume you disagree."

The temptation to pursue the line of ranting conversation afforded by the topic of enriching the Island and going in blind was displaced by the rest of it. The moping he could handle--Taym was the King of a good Mope--but this was all a bit much. Hypocritically, Taym felt compelled to pursue that instead.

"Oh no," he said sardonically. "Adulthood."
