Guilian had not meant to raise any sad memories, so he was glad to see no real change in the mare's body language as she explained her family circumstances. Though from the sound of it, she had no reason to be sad with the family the world had brought her; her adopted mother sounded every bit the proper mother, even if she had never actually borne Lilith, and he commented on that fact with a kind smile. "Well, Chica, it sounds as though your birth parents were the ones to miss out, because your adopted mother sounds such a positive model for you and has raised you to be such a poised young mare, yes? Perhaps one day you will know, but it doesn't sound as though you are suffering from a lack of family." This he accompanied with a chuckle; sometimes, a lack of family might be a good thing! But he tempered that reaction quickly; just because Lilith didn't show any signs of distress didn't mean it wasn't a sensitive subject, and he didn't wish to be the sort of boor who dwelt on it! "I take it from your words that you had no adopted siblings, either? This I can sympathize with, as I was raised by someone other than my birth parents and had no other foals to socialize with. It wasn't until I was a stallion long grown and a father in my own right I learned what siblings were like...and sometimes, it could be quite destructive, yes!" This was followed by another laugh; a few sets of his children had doted on each other, but a few others had seemed out for blood! "Obviously we are all different in how we respond to others, no?"

Lillith smiled at the older stallion. She liked talking with him! It was like having a bit of a father figure. Even if she had only just met him. He was someone she thought would be wonderful to get to talk to again! Certainly someone who could impart more wisdom on her. Her mother would approve of his wisdom for sure. She hoped that their convertsation would go on for a while. "Yes, it's true. I've never suffered a lack of love." She shook herself out a bit, smiling at his chuckle. He was certainly a happy guy!
She laughed a bit. It was interesting to meet someone else who didn't really know what siblings were! There seemed to be so few around in the world. "I didn't have any adopted siblings, no. My adopted mother wasn't... exactly... the... settling down type? She is a rather massive flirt." She giggled a bit. "I'm sure I'll learn all about siblings when I have my own children as well." Lillith thought for a moment. "Though I don't think that will be happening sometime soon."
Cajmera xD I think you mean Lillith and not Twilight!

It was a struggle for Guilian to keep a straight face at Lilith's innocent comment; he knew that her definition of 'not suffering from a lack of love' and his own definition of that term would have very little in common! Still, while he had never had any shame in his lifestyle, age and experience had made him temper any explanations of his personal life to much later on in his acquaintances...barring the acquaintance being that sort of Soquili themselves! And Guilian's kind had always been able to easily identify their own! Somehow though, he managed the herculanean task of keeping his expression level, merely giving an understanding nod. However, his resolve was quickly tested again at the information that Lilith's mother was also a flirt; in his experience, that word was a blanket term for a lot of things, most of which had been applied to Guilian himself at one time or another. He definitely had to meet her mother... Though for the time being, Guilian was enjoying his time with Lilith. Whatever expectations he might have once had when chatting up a pretty mare, right now he was content to simply walk and talk. She was so open, so alive, so vivacious that after his long period of depression, just talking to her was a panacea! "You may be surprised how children can sneak up on you, Chica; I myself had once believed I would never have children of my own, but I was fortunately proven wrong. I would not be surprised if you found yourself a proud mother before too long, with such a familial outlook as you seem to have been blessed with. It is a wonderful thing, this dedication to the idea of family!" ~Twilight...Angel~ Geez...I have no idea why I keep doing that, and always with Lilith! XD Obviously in my mind, she ought to be a Twilight herself!

Lillith watched him. She watched him rather carefully. This stallion was certainly interesting. He had probably had a wild life in his youth. Maybe even continuing into his older age... She was sure that the stallion probably chatted up plenty of others anyway. Though he seemed to enjoy just walking and talking just as much! She was sure this stallion was just as flirty and mouthy as her mother. She smiled at the thought of the two of them together. That would be an interesting conversation to be in on. Just thinking about it made her giggle.
She perked up a bit at the mention of her having children of her own. "I'm sure such things can sneak up on you when you least expect it! After all, one never really knows where the path may lead you in life." She smiled. It was a pearl of wisdom her mother used often on her as a young filly. Something she had given her to concentrate on when she was feeling down about not having siblings, or not having the same look as her mother. "I'm sure that a dedication to family is something that can be learned when one has children and someone to care about above all other as well. I simply had someone who was willing to teach such complicated things to me early on in life." She smiled widely at the stallion. He was so understanding of her thoughts! It was like meeting a best friend she had needed for so very long... Or even just someone to talk to for now. For now seemed the logical choice at the moment. But there was always the chance to run into each othe again! And the thought of never seeing this stallion again made her heart heavy. He was such a delight to talk to, she didn't want him to end up going away forever.
Lillith gently fluttered around Guilian again. Looking at him from all angles as they talked was interesting. His colors were so full of life! Such a great contrast to her own greys. Colors were something she enjoyed looking at so very much. "If I may, the colors on you are simply so vibrant. I can't help but to take a moment to look at you every so often!" She smiled happily at him as she fluttered in front of him. "It's such a contrast to my own greys after all!"
Cajmera Clearly! xD It's all good though <3 She certainly doesn't mind!

In a brief moment of personal insight, Guilian realized the absurdity of this situation, at least if it was being seen through the eyes of his younger self. Lilith was an attractive mare; there was no denying that fact. She was also friendly, charming, and delightfully naïve; these things together made a heady combination for a stallion who lived his life by the code of seduction. Yet here he was, as fit and fabulous as he’d ever been, thinking he had back his old zest for life and his old enthusiasm, yet in the presence of the aforementioned Lilith, he found himself contemplating her mother. The naiveté that would have been so alluring when he was younger now made him feel… What did it make him feel? Not the desire to attempt to seduce her, as wonderful as that experience might be. Instead, he wanted more to just continue as they were, walking and talking and enjoying the chance to chat. Indeed, he would almost describe this feeling as…paternal. How very, very strange. But at the same time, so very pleasant. Perhaps that was it, he mused thoughtfully. Perhaps the secret to loving life and all the Soquilis in it was NOT to try to force them all into the box of romantic interests, but to approach each Soquili with an open mind…and not just an open libido! Feeling as though he had just made a remarkable discovery, Guilian gave the mare a warm smile. “Yes, Chica; that is the truth of it. No matter how we expect things to turn out when we are young, to look back over our lives we might find ourselves surprised. I never would have thought to see myself here and now, like this, yet I am very much enjoying myself. I have had times both happy and sad because I have had a family, but at the end of the day I must consider myself blessed. I thought I had a had the perfect life, back when I was single, childless, and carefree, but I now know what true blessings are. I know you will have them yourself, in time.” He smiled again, then laughed at her compliments to his coat. Wagging a wing tip playfully at her, he tsked. “Compliments are supposed to be my thing, Chica; obviously I am being remiss if you are able to turn them around on me! Though I thank you, I have always been most partial to my bright colors. While I love color of all types on others, my coat has always reminded me of my desire to be seen, to be noticed.” Waxing thoughtful again for a moment, he said in a somewhat softer voice, “Perhaps for some of us, we most fear being ignored.”

Lillith hopped around him, she was so excited to be with this stallion. He made her feel... warm. It was very nice. He felt like her mother did. Kind and gentle. Understanding and full of wisdom. She had only been around a few others who have ever made her feel so very... warm and comfortable. She smiled widely at him and brushed herself against his soft warm fur. It was such a comforting gesture. Something she hoped he may feel as comforting and calming as well. It was a delight to share the warmth of her own fur with him. To her, it was the most motherly instinct she had. Something he own mother had shown her was a kind thing to do. To bestow some of your own warmth to others was a blessing and the kindest thing one can do for another.
It was nice to not have someone just hitting on her endlessly. She knew that she was a pretty hybrid. The beautiful grey blues of her fur were things that stallions seemed more than willing to covet. She knew of her beauty and she knew that she was not a stranger to taking advantage of another either. As innocent as she is, or seemed to be, she was no stranger to loving on others for the sole reason of loving on others. It was something that was always nice. Something that she enjoyed more than not as well. She didn't view him in this way though. Not one that she would enjoy attempting to take advantage of. Or, in fact, not one she would even be able TO take advantage of. She liked the relationship they had now. The innocent comradely that they have as they take this delightful walk around the woods.
"I'm sure that you need some attention and compliments as well!" She giggled, "And how could one as yourself not get all the compliments in the world. You are so kind hearted and clearly open to others." She thought on it a moment. "And with fur like yours, how could you possibly ever go without having compliments? It's so bright and warm. And you are so delightful to be around!" She fluttered near him again. "I'm sure that you will never go without compliments. Certainly not while I'm around anyway!" She giggled at him. "I'm sure my mother would feel the same as well! Someone like you would be warmly welcomed into her heart."
Lillith smiled at him. "Your colors are so much brighter than my own." She spread her wings as much as she was able. "Being a flutter and having such a dull coat is strange to most. Though it certainly hasn't stopped others from enjoying the subtle beauty in my colors." She blushed lightly as she complimented herself. She enjoyed the way she looked, but she knew she was dull for a flutter. Maybe it was her second breed that came through in these colors? She never knew one of her second breed. Only that they had the same tail she herself had. And that she didn't know what they were called. Maybe this stallion knew what they were called?

Guilian might be making revelations about himself, but it was just as well that some things were not being spoken. No matter how unromantic an encounter, no stallion would ever want to know that he was being compared to a mare's MOTHER. Being thought of as her father would be bad enough, but her mother? That was rather crossing a line. But since Lilith mercifully kept that little tidbit to herself, the awkwardness that would inevitably have ensued was completely avoided. Instead, Guilian was able to enjoy their banter and the casual physical contact that was so important an element in his life. If the gentle touch was a parental comfort to Lilith, it was a general comfort to Guilian; exposed to physical contact from his earliest days, he could no more eschew touch than he could stop breathing. It was all things to him; romantic, comforting, sentimental, reflexive. It was...well, it was him. So he returned the brushing touch with a light bump of their flanks, grinning as he remarked, "Well, I'd be lying if I said I didn't like the attention and the compliments, Chica; I'd also be lying if I said I wasn't used to receiving them. Being the perceptive mare you are, you no doubt know you are correct in saying I am used to attention," Guilian said with a wink. "But just because it is true does not make more unwelcome, especially when uttered with such an honest, open air of candor." Those were the best sort of compliment, if he did say so himself: the kind unmotivated by anything but honesty. "Though I must confess I am surprised to think you find being a flutter rare, nevermind a pale one. I have not known a large number of flutters, but I've seen enough to know they are hardly rare. I think your admirers might be trying to fall over themselves complimenting you, though I can't say I blame them." Goodness knows that he'd thrown around one or two extravagant compliments in his time!

Lillith giggled as Guilian bumped into her flank. Bucking a bit, she ran a circle around the stallion before brushing her entire body up against his. It was always nice to be able to say hi to another in such a simple way! Her mother had always coddled her and cuddled up against her. The physical contact of just simply brushing up against another was always a welcome gift to her. She didn't get to do it too often now that she wasn't around her mother all the time. And rubbing yourself up against a complete stranger... Well... That's considered a no-no to most. So she wasn't about to go around rubbing herself up against others! And being able to talk to simply with someone who doesn't mind the contact makes everything even better! Even if she had compared him to her mother and a father, she certainly didn't mean anything by it! Just that she adored the stallion already. And was certainly going to lament when their time together was done. She had already made up her mind that she was going to have to visit him with more of his family... Maybe they would all be this wonderful and warm! A soft smile played on her lips as she thought of such a thing.
"I would never be anything but honest in my compliments! Mother, and life itself, has always taught me that honesty is the best policy." She thought on this for a moment, "Or, at least, it's the best in most things! Compliments are certainly one of those things. They should always come from the heart after all." She hoped that Guilian wouldn't think her a terrible flake for saying such things and blushed lightly.
"Are there truly other flutters that don't burst with color?" She stared in awe of the news she was just told. Having only seen brightly colored flutters, she was always sure her dull color was the reason that her own mother had given her up! Surely there had to be something more than her simply being left behind. "I always thought that my own dull color had to be a curse from the parent that I got my hooves and tail from... There had to be a reason I was left behind!" She looked up at Guilian, knowing he didn't have any answers for her, just wanting his warm eyes to smile softly at her. Such a thing would certainly make her feel better!

Ah, if Guilian had had any doubt that he was once again alive, they would have been dispelled by this encounter. So recently, he had been immersed in darkness and doldrums; everything he'd loved had become drab and uninteresting. He had been horrible company, a horrible companion, and a lifeless form with barely more spunk than a dead log. Now, he was talking, he was laughing, he was animated; he was flirting with a lovely young mare who was as demonstrative as any stallion could dream. It was a beautiful day, a beautiful encounter...he was happier than he possibly could have imagined, and he owed it to his best friend. This was why everyone needed friends, Guilian mused as he beamed back at the mare. You needed someone who understood you, what motivated you, what moved you; someone who could fight through the darkness on your behalf and help push you back to where you were meant to be. And where he was meant to be was right here, right now, with Lilith providing yet another badly needed nudge. "You are a breath of fresh air, Lilith, and I reiterate that I would love to one day meet your mother. I am sure that your charm will be echoed in her," he said with a charming smile. "For you are a charming mare, regardless of your color or lack thereof. I do not know your birth parents, obviously," he said in a much gentler tone, "But I do not doubt that your appearance had nothing to do with your abandonment. Sometimes, factors beyond our control can affect us, or our offspring." For a moment, a brief pained expression crossed his face as he thought once more about his daughter Amary, who had abandoned her children to who knew what fate. It had been an act of foolishness and vapidity rather than malice, but that did not change the outcome. It took a moment to collect himself again; thinking of that episode, which had precipitated his depression to start with, was never a good thing. But he finally managed to recollect himself and wrenched away from the dark thoughts, giving Lilith a smile, albeit a slightly weak one. "My apologies, Chica; but I feel very strongly about abandonment, and I feel for the abandoned, particularly abandoned foals, none of us who were left alone as children should be forced to feel shame for that," he said with a bit more confidence. Because although it wasn't exactly common knowledge, Guilian himself was one of the abandoned.

Lillith watched Guilian closely, she had stopped hopping up and down around the stallion to do this. The air around him seemed to stiffen a bit as she mentioned her feelings. She knew whatever had been going on inside his own mind must have been large. Too large for her to know about. Or simply too painful. Those kinds of things certainly happened to others. Though this stallion did not seem the type to end up with something as despairing as to change the feel of the very air around him. He was very happy and sweet to Lillith the entire time they were talking, certainly not the marks of someone who had been worried about something. Thinking on it a bit more, she realized how silly it truly was of her to think such a thing. Who said that the way one acted currently reflected what had happened to them in their life. And it certainly didn't have to! That was for sure! She herself was a good example of how it didn't have to change who you are, or who you were meant to be. She had been abandoned certainly, but after such a thing, she ended up with a more loving mother than she ever could have hoped for! It was something others never got to experience, she was sure of that. She had met others who were raised by their own families and were beyond miserable. At least she was not one of them. And she never would be.
She listened as the kind and gentle stallion complimented her, a blush appearing across her face. It's not that she was never complimented, she simply knew that he meant every word coming from his mouth. And that meant far more to the small mare than the compliment itself. "Thank you very much." She smiled lightly at him, "If it's coming from you, it must be the truth. Perhaps..." Tilting her head in thought, she continued, "I would be able to meet my parents one day. Or any siblings I might have as well. I would certainly like to find out why they left me behind." She took a deep breath, "I'm sure it will make me a stronger being than I am now. To overcome such a thing as the reason why."
Watching him carefully again, she nuzzled right up onto his face. She didn't want this stifling air to surround the stallion any longer. He was too sweet and kind to look so very hurt. Though this was all she could truly do for him, she knew that he would appreciate such an act. Deciding on her words carefully, she spoke again, "Those are very powerful words. They are more awe inspiring than I have ever heard spoken to me. Overcoming things as such is sometimes a hard task. Something that needs the help and love of people around you." She thought again, not wanting to confuse her thoughts, "I have had my true mother with me this entire time. Loving me and caring for me. Only when I'm on my own do my demons of being left behind come back to haunt me. My mother never let such a thing bother me growing up." She smiled up at Guilian and nuzzled him again. It was important for her to try and show him that she understood.
