Avant stiffened as the other stallion approached. He couldn't help it. He was injured, slightly, but still injured on the one side, though his hide hid it well. The fight he'd gotten himself into hadn't ended the way he'd hoped. But then, mouthing off at a pure Kalona was never a good idea. Avant hadn't been ready for the kick to his side, or the headbutt. That was the only reason he could explain not paying as much attention as he needed to for this walk home. He had chosen it because it was quick and because it was difficult. He hadn't anticipated that it would be too hard for him. If he had...Well the fact that he was completely trapped by those evil vines was explanation enough. The stallion, though, didn't seem to want to hurt him, and made no attempted while he agreed to the familiar's request.

And what an odd request it was. Something he would hopefully never have to come clean on. Or, if he did, it would happen soon. He didn't like owing debts. Not to anyone. He liked being owed debts. That made his life a lot better. Still, one little debt like this wasn't going to hold him back form agreeing. He couldn't see another way out of these forsaken vines.

The stallion was quiet as he worked, until he wanted Avant to move, which he did as carefully as he could. It felt so good to be able to move again, even if it was only that little bit.

He growled down at the familiar at the sort of threat and shook his head a bit. Avant didn't mean much by it, but if she drew blood, he was going to kill her, her stallion, and the blue stallion that he would have to hunt down and find. "I'll stay still." They didn't need to know that he would hunt them down and kill them if he was harmed. It should be just... understood. The way they understood that he wouldn't always be tangled up in vines and, on their next meeting, might tear them apart for seeing him like this.

For him, the humiliation of having to accept help was... horrid. It was like slime running down his spine, getting tangled in his hair. He hated having to rely on others. Avant had hated it as a child, when he had to rely on his father, and he hated it now, in this unique circumstance that he found himself in. Silently, he fumed, and he didn't let them know it bothered him to be in such a state. Of course, they knew, but he didn't have to let on completely.

Avant just wanted to snap out of the vines and make sure they'd never tell a soul of what they'd seen. If that meant killing them... well, he couldn't actually do that. He'd given his word, after all. Trying not to chew his tongue off in silence, because chatter would just make him even more annoyed, he craned his neck so he could see them work, watching in a sullen mood.

It was no surprise that the Kalona distrusted Imri. After all, if one made it their life's work to break or at least twist their word, they certainly wouldn't expect truth from others. But the oath Imri had offered was a simple and moderately unavoidable one. So with the other's agreement, Imri had no choice but to help. His oath was good, no matter who he gave it to. His father had raised him to believe in nothing less. And as long as Avant kept his teeth to himself, Imri would help him get free.

Imri canted an ear as he continued to work on the vines wrapped around the near wing. As soon as he had more space to move he spun his haunches away from the stallion's head, making sure he didn't a bite to the hindquarters for his trouble. Though the stallion had promised, and could reasonably be expected to behave while he was still captive, Imri wouldn't take many chances. Kalona honor was a finicky thing, after all.

With the one wing almost completely free, Imri began working on the tangle that criss-crossed the stallion's back. "A fine mess... Akaria? Any time now?"

"Don't sulk,it's most unbecoming." The vixen murmured as she flowed closer. "Even trussed up as you are, you can keep your pride if you'll not pout like a child."

She huffed to herself and began working at the vines looped about his forelegs. Severing the higher clusters allowed her to brace her foreleg on his knee to reach one of the loops about his chest and another around his neck. She dropped to the ground again and began dragging the loose pieces away from his hooves so he wouldn't step on them and get caught again.

"You're lucky, this batch is just sharp and not poisonous." She muttered. "Not much help for that."

She muttered and dragged a twist away and then began working at his hind legs. In short order he could move all four feet freely, and she had the better part of his legs free too. Glancing upward she grinned at the sight of Imri freeing the stallion's hind quarters and tail. There were a few vines around his remaining wing, but the lower stuff she cleared away without further comment.

"Good as new, soon." She offered, not remarking about the blood she could scent on his hide.

As humiliating as his situation was, it was still nice to see the stallion spook away from him as soon as he had more room to move. Avant wasn’t going to hurt him, despite his appearance, he was a stallion of his word, if you could get it out of him. So he would keep his teeth to himself, and his desire to make sure that no one ever heard of this little endeavor by killing both the stallion and the familiar. Just so long as they helped him get free, he was making himself not care.
He flexed his wing, brushing off the last of the vines holding it. No pain, no tears, he could almost weep with joy that he could move, even that little bit. It was nice not to have to fight for even the simplest movement. Of course, that was only one wing. The fox and her charge were working on him, and he could do nothing but wait to be freed. It was most perplexing. He wasn’t normally the one standing still, unable to move or fight or whatever he needed to be doing at the time. And it was so silent. Except for the sound of the two working at the vines, and the occasionally chatter, there was nothing.

“So, stallion, I know the name of your familiar, would you tell me your name so I can better fulfill my promise to her?” Most of the Soquili he came across introduced themselves by name, and then linage. Like he cared, particularly, who they were descended from. “I would hate to help the wrong blue Soquili and think my debt done when he would still need my help.” He would hate to help him, but that was beside the point.
Moving slowly, he twisted out of the rest of the vines, leaving none of the thorns against his skin. Free. Avant stretched his wings as wide as he could and then tucked them close to his body so getting through the rest of the woods would be no challenge. “I thank you for your assistance.” He said simply, nodding his head at each of them. “And I will fulfill my promise to you, little fox.”

Imrikalto was no one's fool. He knew the move to get as much of himself out of biting range was a smart one, for all that it was unavoidably obvious. He'd take the obvious disturst over a chunk out of the rump anyday, and if the kalona cared to ask he'd tell Avant the same. Still, it passed without comment (or bloodshed) and he thought that was just fine. But he certainly wouldn't tell his lady about this anytime soon, she'd hardly approve.

Imri moved on to detangling the last wing from vines as Akaria muttered, severed vines, and dragged them out of reach beneath his hooves and Avant's. The she-fox flowed like water about him, silent and graceful as she helped to untangle their unlikely comrade. Her sarcasm seemed to have ebbed, or perhaps she was just too busy calling him an iditot -silently- she didn't have the breathe to sass him outloud. He doubted that would last.

"Hmm?" Imri murmured around a mouthful of vine as the stallion suddely spoke. Huh... Had he really managed to get this far into the whole tangle and not share his name?

"Well, that's a bit foolish." He grumbled at himself. "Forgive me. I am Imrikalto SilverShadow, son of Sibalto, the Silver Stallion from across the Sea. The young stallion Akaria warned you of is Ashrialto, my son, though he favors his dam in coloring. Still, he has high white socks and blood-red dapples on his forelegs that are rather unmistakeable. His mane is also banded black and white, like mine."

"Aye, I know you will." Akaria murmured, giving the Kalona an approving nod as she dragged away the last of the vines and then came to stand at Imri's side. "His son fancies himself a bit of a knight, always getting into trouble. Uni tail and coat like a midnight sky, he's hard to miss."

She flashed a canine grin, sharp fangs glinting. "As for the assistance, the pleasure was mine. Travel well, Son of Shadows."

Imrikalto inclined his head back to the stallion. "You are most welcome, and travel safely. I would not wish for a repeat of this adventure any time soon."

Avant was very still until all the vines were off him, then shook himself like thy were snakes instead of vines. The thorns, and their touch, made him shiver. He hated them. Which was one of the reasons they decorated the paths that lead to his actual home. Protection. He just hadn't been paying enough attention to what he was doing, which had lead to this humilation.

"Imrikalto." He repeated, committing it to memory. "I'd say it was nice to meet you, but under the circumstances, I would rather we had not met. Of course, if we had not, then I would have been gravely injured tearing myself out of those vines. So, I owe you my thanks." He paused. "And I suppose my name. Avant Resari Faythen." He left off his lineage, never understanding why others listed their whole family tree for a first meeting.

"Travel well, the pair of you." Avant offered, then took a sharp right and vanished into the shadows. It was a superb feeling to be moving again, even though he was very, very careful to avoid the vines that would ensnare him again.

Imrikalto drifted back and well out of the kalona's way, watching amusement as the dark-coated stallion shook himself. Imri well knew what it was like to be caught in the vines, and he certainly couldn't blame the kalona for the reaction. After all, if he'd spent time immeasurable wrapped in the biting coils, he'd probably have the same impulse today.

Just the memory of the sensation made him want to find a soft field to roll in, to erase the phantom scratching sensation along his spine. The echo of his name drew his attention back to the present, and he inclined his head in a faint bow.

"A fortunate enough meeting, all things considered." He offered neutrally, mild amusement coloring his tone. "You are welcome, Avant Resari Faythren."

He committed the name to memory, he rather imagined he'd hear it sooner or later. The Faythrens were not unknown to he and his line, but this one would require a little more research. There was something different about the Kalona, and while Imri had a hunch he would want confirmation.

Caution never hurt.

"Travel well." Imri murmured with a slightly deeper bow of his head.

Akaria considered the Kalona stallion once he could move freely. He was about as tall as she expected, considering his height as she had worked. While bound in the vines he couldn't move freely or stand as tall as he might, but free he confirmed a few of her suspicions.

"Travel Well, Avant Resari, Son of Shadows." She murmured with amusement as she watched him depart. Her next words slipped out in a soft murmur. "May our paths cross at a much later time, so I may see what has become of you."

"What was that, Akaria?" Imri asked, half distracted by the Kalona's departure.

"Nothing of importance." She assured him gently with a nudge. "Shall we go? Your family will be expecting us."
She made sure Imri led the way toward their home, glancing back toward where the Kalona had disappeared one last time. "A most interesting turn of events."
