"You do not need to serve them. I serve all my friends, all those people. Everything I have, everything I get, I earn, I come into, I give it to them. It makes them happy, and making them happy is making me happy. That's why I did what I did for my master. I gave him myself, so I could give my friend something they really wanted. I tried really hard to give them what they wanted, my friend that I gave myself to get for. But they didn't like it, they hated it, they said it was gross and they threw it at me. I tried really hard, I really tried, but they just said 'Stupid Ma-- Stupid you. Stupid you who wants to make people happy, you suck at making people happy, so you go away.' And then they closed the door on me. They don't talk anymore. But that's okay.. I mean, I was really really REALLY sad for a while, but then my master, he was kind, he is my friend, so I try to focus on him instead." All of that seemed to come on a single breath, and his expressions changed just as quickly, going from being completely serious, then dropping down to a pained, heartbroken one, before bouncing back up to a more neutral expression when he mentioned his master.
It was difficult for him to keep trying to focus on the sad things; it seemed like his mind just naturally pushed it back further and further in the back of his mind, and switched him back into his normal, curious and excited mode. He continued to listen to Hvergelmir, nodding as she mentioned Babylon, and smiled when he realized how familiar that sounded. Not that he had mentioned Babylon, or met him, but because of the place. How exciting! A knight of a place with such a large tower.
"I do not take an oath not to fight. I don't know why you'd take an oath. But it is important to just say to yourself 'no, I don't want to fight.' But an oath.. It is just a fancy promise. Unless there is consequence to doing an oath, then it is just a promise. But, but but but, I am glad you make this oath. I am glad you want to be friends, because I want to be friends! And as friends, we are friends, and I will do anything for you, because of that." Of course, that had it's limitations, but Hvergelmir didn't need to know that! She was his friend now! And that meant she was grandly important!

Schreibersite's circular logic was harmless, but it was making her a little dizzy, and more than a little depressed. His life -- what little she could glean about it -- sounded terrible, but he didn't want to focus on that, no matter what. And if he didn't, then she didn't know how she could force him to. This should've been easy, she told herself. Someone better than me probably wouldn't have any trouble getting through to him, not with how naturally unhappy his tale is. I'm not good enough to handle this. I have no idea how to help him. Laney'd dropped out of high school, and certainly never made any attempt at college. Most days, she avoided thinking about either of those things, and pursued what interested her on her own, but today, she felt woefully inadequate to a very, very important task. She felt so ill-equipped. "This particular oath has very serious consequences," she said, tracing the edge of her seal with a finger. "I bet my life on it." She was about to say something reiterating the fact that they were now friends, but at that moment, the lights started to come up onstage through the skylight they were sitting on. "Oh," Hvergelmir said, getting to her feet. "It's the second act -- I should get going." Cooro Cooro we can wind this down to a wrap soon if that's okay with you?

"... Betting a life is never a good thing." Small moments of clarity that came across Schreibersite seemed so eerie, if anyone knew him well enough. The man who was so happy and excited all the time suddenly sobering up was.. Just plain off. "If there is a mistake, you die. Die is forever, Miss Hvergelmir. It's silly to do something like that. So silly and sad. I'd rather you make room for mistakes, and go on and live."
But.. She was right. The show was starting up again, and with glee, Schreibersite looked back down into the skylight, hoping that the second half would be just as glorious as the first!
"You don't have to go, but if you want to go, then go on, I can't stop you. I'd like to go running someday with you! We are friends, okay? But if we go running, you can't wear that, it'd get ruined!"
Shazari Yeah, Certainly. smile I'd love to have them meet again once he's found himself beat up or attack by one of the Order factions. So far they've all been nice XD

Hvergelmir offered an apologetic smile. " Alea iacta est," she said. "It's too late to turn back now, silly or not." She dusted off her skirts, standing, then her hands. Technically, she supposed she could've stayed -- but in truth, keeping up a conversation with Schreibersite was draining her emotional reserves. It hurt to keep smiling in the face of someone in such a sad situation, but she was worried about saying too much, pushing too hard . . . She needed to get some time to marshal her forces, to think about what she could say to get through the cloud of cheer he protected his psyche with, and talk to the person inside it. Not now. Not today. "Thanks, but I really should get going -- busy day tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of the show, though," she suggested. "And don't be a stranger, okay? Next time maybe I'll have my running shoes with me." So saying, she winked, gave a short wave, and turned to climb back down the roof by means of the fire escape. It was a warm night -- she'd get bubble tea for the walk home. That would make her feel better. Cooro Cooro Sure thing! Sounds good to me. <3 And wrapped on this post from my end, thanks so much for a delightful thread. <333

"... Right." Schreibersite couldn't tell what she had said, but be smiled back at her, nodding, knowing that it meant Something important. And Since she wanted to leave, well, there wasn't much he could do about that.
"Thank you, Hvergelmir. I won't be a stranger, nope! And if you don't have some shoes, I'll bring some too, okay? Then we can both go a-running! Please take care. And keep smiling! You look beautiful that way!" He offered her a little wave, before his gaze turned back down into the show. Something felt a little off compared to before.. Maybe Hver got to him a bit, but with the woman's voice hitting a note down on the stage below drew his attention, and it was once more focused on her alone. Those sad thoughts, the ideas she talked about, banished from his mind.
Shazari Alright~ Here's my closing post!
