If he made her cry while she was wearing goggles she'd have to smack him.
Instead of smacking him, her free hand moved to rest on his. "You don't have to apologize. Your hesitation was more than warranted, and it shouldn't have upset me. I'm sorry for upsetting you." She'd been worried she was about to be the one to mess things up, and she was glad he'd just helped alleviate that worry. She squeezed his hand, then gave that up and went in for a hug. "I love you, too."
She would have liked to hug him more, but like he said... after all this. Mission first. Sadly. "Okay. After the mission." Whatever it was. "After... we'll talk. Just promise me you'll be honest. And don't be afraid to tell me no."
With a smile on her face she stepped back. "If you can do that, then I can hunt for tablets in peace."

"I promise." He had meant every word.

"Thank you." Her smiled softened. It wasn't that she didn't believe him, but Sherry was worried he'd agree with her out of obligation, and well, she didn't want that. "I'll be honest with you, you'll be honest with me..." The sentence faded, since she really didn't know how to end it. Taking a deep breath, Sherry turned, but she made a point of holding onto Jake's hand. She could look for tablets and keep him close, at least for a few minutes.

It didn't need answering, as that had been his intention. He had kept her in the dark for too long, and he didn't plan to keep her in the dark anymore. Jake smiled and gave her hand a small squeeze as he continued looking for tablets again, albeit half-heartedly.

Sherry squeezed Jake's hand in return, as far as she was concerned there was no such thing as too much affection. At least in tiny little displays. Especially when rummaging around on what had clearly been a battlefield.
Their wandering took them closer to the tower, and Sherry kicked at a few things along the way. Sadly, she turned up no new tablets.
"Any idea about what it is?" Sherry was looking up at the tower now, speaking mostly to fill the silence.

Perhaps it had just been pure luck he even came across one.
Jake looked up also, a slight frown on his face as he shook his head. "No idea. Must be something important considering what happened around here."
Yes Jake, thank you for pointing out the obvious.
Wanting to take a closer look, he took a step forward, and hear a crunch, and then looked down to see that he had stepped on a tablet. "I... really need to stop doing that."

"Must be. I'd really like to know more about it..." Maybe she ought to be taking notes. "It looks old, but it's hard to tell with earthy materials... just by looking anyway." While she spoke, she began searching for her notebook. Hopefully she'd remembered to grab it in all the hurry. "At least, it can-"
Jake stopping and looking down distracted her.
"Oh, nice work! But I agree," Sherry said as she leaned down to pick up the poor stepped on tablet, "You really should be more careful with these things." Brushing it off, she gave it a look over. It seemed to be in fine condition, minus the scuff of dirt that was no doubt from Jake's boot. And a bit of blood on the back of it. Probably hunter blood.
With a sigh, she stood. "How long do you think we've been out here?" Her interest in the tower was waning, something about being confronted with death -holding a tablet in her hand- drained her curiosity for the moment. "Why don't we head back and turn these in. If nothing else, maybe we can grab a drink?"

Jake wasn't going to chide Sherry for being curious about the tower, but he didn't like the fact that she seemed to be taking interest in all the possibly dangerous and life-threatening things.
At least the tablet seemed to distract her from that train of thought, and he lifted his foot so that she could retrieve it.
He gave a shrug at her question, barely ever knowing the amount of time spent doing anything. Perhaps he should invest in a watch at some point. Her next question however, received a relieved nod from him. "Let's."
