She felt her phone buzz in her pocket with Gale's reply but didn't read it just yet. Stormy gave a noncommittal shrug and as ever kept pushing even the slightest attention off herself. "'Okay' is a good place to start," she said quietly. "I'm glad you're at 'okay.' If you need anything, let me know. Not just for all this, I mean."
She hesitated, then glanced at Otto. "Haven't seen anything from Ian, have you?"

BelowHe gave a half hearted shrug to her offer. Asking for help, or trusting his feelings to others. Those were nearly impossible most times. How could he ask Stormy to hold his burdens? It was impossible. She'd done enough. She'd had enough. She wasn't okay, he knew. Because neither was he. Otto softly shook his head. "No. I don't know him at all. Only through Nevada..." He hadn't cared what became of him. Nothing mattered outside of Nevada at the time. Apparently, according to Nevada's letter, he was important to her. Maybe he'd let her down by ignoring her plea to befriend him. He never did care for being told who to talk to. Even if it was a dying wish. His phone was burning in his hand, clutched so tightly to himself it could have overheated. Memories of Nevada never faded, making her death all the more hard to accept. She was just away, that was all. Not forever, he tried to assure himself. But it was forever. There was no more Nevada Grace Burns. No more laughter, smiled and touches. No more warm body next to him in bed. He felt cold. Alone. Empty. "Not going to the party?" he asked passively, as if he just didn't care one way or another. He himself wouldn't go. He didn't like parties anyway, let alone a day he'd dedicated to looking back at lost loved ones. He'd even visit Sam on his way back, even though he was uncertain if she was even dead...

"Dunno." She appeared listless at the idea. Maybe she ought to tell Gale she talked with some people, but the idea of lying even more to him over little things gnawed at her heart. "It feels too . . . warm over there. Open. Remembrance through human noise. Maybe for food to take back," Stormy added thoughtfully, remembering that she had said she'd get some. "Good food helps some."
Though she barely ate these days.
She supposed it was a blessing she wouldn't have to face Ian right now, not after her . . . stint last time. But it didn't mean she didn't worry a little. Part of her was still paranoid she had alienated him forever. Her mouth twisted as conflicting emotions moved like waves within her. "What about you?"

BelowOtto shook his head again. "No. I don't like crowds.." The food was tempting. Very. But not enough to make him brave a party that day. "I went to Disney World on the weekend. Sorry I didn't invite you." He suddenly remembered Stormy was huge on it. Her and Nevada had coaxed him into watching a movie or two before. Having Stormy there might have been good for her, or maybe not. "Cami wanted to go, so..."

Disney. A small light flared in her eyes, turned her from a sagging doll into a sagging doll trying to stand, trying to keep her head up rather than let it dangle. "Cami" sounded familiar, though she couldn't place where from. Not that it mattered: he was venturing out with someone to relax, and that was a lot more than she had done in a month.
"S'okay," Stormy told him gently, like Otto was a rare specimen she could scare away by being too loud. "Really. I wasn't . . ." All there. "Maybe . . . Maybe next time, then. How was it?"
She was eying him like she had just asked him how heaven was, hopeful and a little afraid at the same time.

"It was fun. I mostly liked the roller coasters and hanging out with Cami. She made me take pictures with Disney Characters though..." He actually found that part a little funny, even if he'd been slightly irritated at the time. "You'd definitely like it. Lemme know when you get leave. Or even... get Gale to take you. You'd have more fun with him than me."

"Well just be sure to catch them," America waggled a stern finger at Dylon, before turning her head toward Al. There was a moment of concern when she noticed where he was taking a seat, but bit down any warnings or commentary. This was going to be a nice cookout. This was not going to be another public stage for Lawrence to rile her up. Nodding at Al, the girl answered, "You just eat up, honey, and eat your fill. Growing boys need all they can get, after all." She still wasn't buying into his state of so-called manliness.Nora's offering was met with a look of sheer pleasure as America inspected the pie, "Peach? Oh goodness it is, I think you've definitely made a few people's say with this."

"Howdy there pardner." Jan said warmly to Al. "Certainly has been a while. They had me out in the desert for a while so I wasn't around so much. But now I'm home again home again, no more roaming the prairies for a bit." He gestured at one of the trays he'd brought. "You should try the three cheese ones, I think you might like them."

Ah, good, so characters were still around...Not that there should have been reason to ever doubt it, but after the world went off kilter even Stormy had to doubt the little things. "I'm glad you guys had fun," she said sincerely, if still a little tiredly. "I've never been there. Candace said she'd take the Mists out as a treat one day..." But that was from a long while back, a year even. "It's better t'go as a group, I think. Still a sort of resort and all. But I'll make Gale go either way," Stormy agreed. "Maybe Disney Land next time, never been there either. Or Euro Disney. Maybe it'll give a reason to smile." She trailed away in thought, then without a preamble non-sequitered, "Are there a lot of empty rooms up on the full hunter floor?" ------- Nora grinned back. "Yeah? Lucky me then, I was hoping to make a good impression. Can't go wrong with peaches." Dusting her hands of fallen crumbs, she extended one in greeting. "Nora Ravensgrove, sort of new Sun. You're one of Peyton's friends?"

BelowOtto finally looked up again. Stormy had always been smily and happy. But now? Sure enough, she looked half dead. Was it Nevada's death that had her down? Or something more? It wasn't like he'd have any sway in her well being. So he felt he couldn't help her. His eyes drooped down again, lowering to look over his girlfriend's grave. "Yeah, there are. As far as I know. It's usually kinda quiet." Like he would know. As soon as he got off work, he'd blast music and ignore the world around him. "Why? Lookin' to get an apartment up there?" He himself loved his. It was his pride and joy, really. Everyone who came in said they loved it. Sometimes he kind of took that luxury for granted. But it truly was his sanctuary. "I don't get why people think livin' in the towns is a good idea. Those houses are the first to go in an attack."

below"Quiet would be nice..." Not that it was really rowdy on her floor, but a bigger space, more peace, a room of one's own..."I am, yeah," she told Otto with a small nod. "In a few days I'll be an official hunter, so I figured it'd be a good idea to start looking around." Through no work, no effort on her part. No promotion mission to mess up like Nevada's. She was still too afraid to approach Lance. It was a safe victory, but an empty one as well. Stormy turned more grim at the mention of the towns, her hands fiddling around in her coat pockets. "I agree, but Gale takes a lot of pride in his house. He repaired it, you know, once or twice. And it's a nice place, really." She paused, then added more secretively, "I want to try and convince him to move back to the dorms, though. It's safer."

Sunlight was something Jerry had come to covet. How long had he been locked away for tests? His usual sparkling and desperately chipper demeanor had definitely been knocked down a bit, but the important thing was he still had all of his limbs, and the scrapings from skin samples and needle jabs had all been mostly healed.
He supposed the Life Labs had run out of things to test on him- or at least figured he could use a break while they thought up more terrible things to do to him while he was locked away as their personal lab rat.
There had been quite a few times he had considered chopping his own hand off just to make them stop and let him go, but in the grand scheme of things, that had seemed like a terrible plan.
Memorial day... Had time really flown by so quickly?
He debated joining the cookout on the roof, but the fog was still in his brain. One step at a time, he figured. He wondered if any of his friends had noticed his being gone... but was fairly confident everyone was so busy they had assumed he was just on a mission or something. These things happened.
He crouched carefully to gather some of the flowers- Rin certainly seemed to have been busy, they were beautiful. A Life Division flag was added, along with a rainbow of colors in various species of flowers, some of which he recognized, some he didn't, before heading into the graveyard in search of a certain grave.
Jerry wasn't much of an artist, but with a piece of chalk from his pocket, he carefully drew what he hoped was identifiable as a dolphin onto the headstone before carefully arranging the flowers and flag under it.

Below"Congrats." he murmured carefully, "Just ask the quartermaster. They'll know better than me." Gale was stubborn, that much he knew. Pig headed, really. Otto sort of understood the pride of the house, but the upkeep of rebuilding was stupid. "An apartment has just as much.. I dunno.. potential as a house. I mean, I got mine exactly how I want it, yanno? Gale's just one dude. He don't need all that room."

America took the hand, giving it a firm but friendly shake. "America Jones, former Sun and new Moon," she winked at the other girl. "Yes indeed, she's one of my besties, and a ******** awesome Sun. It's a really fun and close division, even if I didn't stay there I gotta say, it's the best one to wake up into."

below"Thanks." She tried very hard not to think about how Nevada had only got to live as one for a few weeks. "Just, um, think of it like this: you'll probably get at least one new neighbor soonish," Stormy told him with a little extra energy, trying to make it sound like it was a good idea. "I promise I'm very quiet, and I won't mind if you need to play loud music. Maybe I'll join in sometimes." Yelling next to some Avenged Sevenfold sounded practically cathartic. ------ above"Can't say I disagree with that," she said amicably. "Mind you, my spar with Evan knocked me down to size in one hit and then some, but I couldn't ask for a better place to be. Looking forward to working with your Moon lot." Then Nora paused. "Oy. Hold up. Someone told me to look for an America for general basement info..." Definitely good that the peaches gave a great impression. "I'm guessing that's you, eh?"
