Quote: 5: A bunch of stones! Roll 1d10 to see how many you find in this cave! While there were plenty of stones in the cave, he didn't have much time to gather any before he heard some gurgling in the water that made him panic. He grabbed what he could and saw out.

Step Two Some of the caves house many useful stones, other house things waiting to kill you. You can keep on collecting for as long as your willing to risk it (or until you die.)
Roll 1d8 1: A few stones! Roll 1d4 to see how many you find in this cave! 2: Sentient sea weed aggressively gropes you! Roll 1d4 to see how much damage it does! 3: A nice amount of stones! Roll 1d8 to see how many you find in this cave! 4: Tentacles! Roll 1d8 to see how much damage they do! 5: A bunch of stones! Roll 1d10 to see how many you find in this cave! 6: This area becomes permanently mob free and reveals a large cache of stones, roll 1d20 to see how many you find in this cave! 7: The mermaids guarded several large, dark caves that are now open to explore. Hundreds to thin, snake-like tendrils shoot out from the darkness. Roll 1d12 to see how much damage they do! 8: The mermaids guarded several large, dark caves that are now open to explore. What appears to be a cave full of inviting stones is actually a huge toothy maw, patiently waiting to devour you. Roll 1d20 to see how much damage it does! The gurgling had been a warning, and he noticed a rather nasty looking fish move around, it's lantern swinging about like a searchlight for anything it could target.
swimming low to a cluster of coral, he tried to keep out of sight, but was then grabbed about the legs by a cluster of seaweed that was also looking, though with less mobility, for a target.

Quote: 2: Sentient sea weed aggressively gropes you! Roll 1d4 to see how much damage it does! Luckily, the seaweed wasn't all that thick or strong, and it was more annoying than anything. Really, blades of sea grass? You wanted to bother him now?
When the fish left, Melvin just pulled his legs free and swam away. HP: 37

Continuing on his merry way, he went to the next row of caves and entered one that was clear from any guards to collect some stones.

Wait, actually he wished he could find a treasure chest with actual treasure, but even a storage bin of rocks would have been nice. Stones Found: 32

The next cave proved just as rewarding, and he went to start collecting stones again. He had to wonder if the entire stone walls of each cave were what made the runic stones, and if in theory, you could runic a cave to be of any use. It was a thought.

Quote: 3: A nice amount of stones! Roll 1d8 to see how many you find in this cave! So far, he felt like he was just being a unpaid collector. Instead of picking fruit from the field or from some orchard, he was in cooler water and just risking his life with sea creatures for rocks.
At least the field workers could eat a apple or something while working. Oh well.

What appears to be a cave full of inviting stones is actually a huge toothy maw, patiently waiting to devour you. Roll 1d20 to see how much damage it does! The mermaids were usually patrolling along with various strange sea life he was pretty sure wasn't featured in any National Geographic episode. It was why, when he saw one of the larger caves was vacant of anyone, he swam up slowly. If all the small caves had decent handfuls of stones, he could only guess that there were either more stones in these caves or something mermaids valued - aside from soap. Not that soap wasn't bad. Actually, he wouldn't mind finding a lot of soap? Did the mermaids have a soap factory?!!
Trying not to get too excited, he swam to nearby cave and slowly came closer. What he saw as actually a lot of stones sitting by the mouth of the cave.

He didn't expect mouving caves, and when he saw the walls start closing in, he only thought it was an cavein but...less far into the cave. Entrance in?
Jerking back, he was nearly bitten in two, and winced as he felt the heavy weight clamp down on him. Then the walls moves - as if chewing him.
He realized that whatever had fused into the side of this wall to look like a cave was not one, and he hit the wall hard, hurting his own hand, before the maw opened and let him pull himself out. HP: 27

The cave, clearly living now, did have a bit of range, and it pulled out, it's maw moving out and snapped back on his leg. Wincing, he felt that either this thing just ate whatever it wanted, and that he didn't want to have one of the lamest deaths ever - eaten by a cave. Knowing Deus and their Twitter uses, the jokes after his funeral would be horrible.

It didn't move far from the wall, and after punching the wall once again, it released and he managed to swim far enough away that once it made another snap out into the water, he was out of its range.

So, rubbing his midsection from where he had been chomped, he swam over to the nearest cave to give himself a breather and some time to recover. His heart was racing and he was thinking too hard on what it would feel like to be ground up into a mash by a cave-creature.

Quote: 6: This area becomes permanently mob free and reveals a large cache of stones, roll 1d20 to see how many you find in this cave! The cave he did take a breather in was one that had some of the most stones he had seen thus far. Since it was so close to the chewing cave, he guessed not to many people would venture to close to these caves or the mermaids didn't think it was worth guarding with a trap close by.
It was good news for him at least, and once he loaded up his bag, he decided maybe it was time to start heading back. The bag had more than enough and was getting pretty heavy. He didn't need to create an anchor for himself. Stones Found: 57

Quote: Roll 1d6 1: you are safe. 2: you are safe. 3: you are safe. 4: a massive sea creature attacks you. Roll 1d20 to escape its gaping maw. If you roll 10+ you escape it, if you roll below you receive 10 damage and need to try again. 5: a bus-sized sea creature attack you. It has 30 HP and 5 auto damage. You can escape it by rolling 1d20 and getting 13+, failure results in auto damage. 6: a small-sized sea creature attack you. It has 15 HP and 3 auto damage. You can escape it by rolling 1d20 and getting 15+, failure results in auto damage. If your HP drops below 0, you lose half your stones as your body floats back to the surface Heading out, he looked up to where the rays of light rippled on the surface and started his way up. It was still clear around here, with just him floating around.
And for a reason.
Just as he was heading up, the light above was eclipsed by what looked like a giant wall shark - if you didn't add a lot of spiky fish clinging to it's body and rows of spikes down it's back. There were also a lot of small, somewhat hand-like fins under it's body.
It was not a pretty fish, and the moment it saw him, it opened a great, gaping maw and swooped down. There were no teeth in this mouth, but ribbed mouth was terrifying enough.
Swimming to head in what he hoped was the direction of the shore, he could feel the fish swimming closer and closer. The creepiest part was was that it was moving past while moving gently and silently. Oh, and the giant mouth just open wide to just swallow him whole.
He didn't get what was with everything wanting to eat him today!

He wasn't fast enough, and just as he got just a short distance into open water, he felt the water around him pull him back. It wasn't hard to realize that the creature was pushing out water from its gills and vacuum-sucking him into its mouth.
Despite how well he was at swimming, he was pulled into the large mouth that easily swallowed him whole, before the mouth shut down locking him in the dark. HP: 20
