I EAT YOUR FEAR. Laz made a pleased gurgling sound. IT TASTES DELICIOUS.You're creepy, Laz. Noah had made this observation enough times that it was tinged with a weird kind of fondness by now, and, anyway, Laz never minded. The weapon always took it as a compliment. "If you were warned against it probably someone did it and it didn't go well," Noah said, with a small bob of his head. "What kind of plant life is there in Halloween?" He stopped in his tracks, his eyes widening; this was apparently something he'd never thought about before, and his eyes lit up with avid curiosity. He returned to the real world in time to catch the end of Rin's instructions about compost, and he nodded quickly. "Okay. Okay, I'll do that," he agreed, and resumed his progress along the row, a little sheepishly. "Do people buy and store their own food?" he asked. "Like, I figure people get their favorite snacks and stuff, but, like, ingredients for real cooking too?" "Can I look up formulas for making media? I bet I could get the price point down if I could make it instead of buying premade," he offered excitedly. "As long as I get all my duties done and clean up after myself, I bet I could use lab facilities. I mean, I've seen plenty of people doing personal projects. I think. Wait. Am I supposed to know about that?" He looked suddenly worried.

Rin smiled at Noah, a warm but distant smile. She moved closer to him and reached out to plunk a hand atop his head and rub his head-stubble affectionately. It brought back memories. She used to be so curious and excited by all the possibilities. This place though tended to wear you down. It makes you appreciate what little you get more, but also forget what you could have in a lot of ways.
"Think little shop of horrors," Rin replied finally. She returned to her own row with a nod and a hum, "Mmmhmm. People do it all the time. It is wise to always stock up in the event supplies are cut off. At the very least, think of it as a way to look out for your loved ones in this place. If suddenly no food was coming in and everyone was on emergency supplies, you and those you care about would not need to worry, nor would they need to drain the emergency supplies from others either. You are contributing to the survival of those around you no matter how you slice it." She gently took to a vining plant that needed it's training wire to be re-adjusted. "Also, you never know the next time you'll see chocolate."
She offered Noah a mildly scolding look before shaking her head with a small chuckle. "Again, you do not need to ask. Contributions are very important." She looked uncertain for a moment before approaching him again, "here. If I give you this will you take the hint?" She offered him a key, given the circumstances it was safe to assume it was a copy to the greenhouse. "Melvin has one too."
"My greenhouse is your greenhouse."

Noah held still for the head-rubbing, his eyes widening slightly in confusion. The description of Halloween plants made him all the more determined to investigate. Maybe he could get clearance for a golem expedition, although that would probably have to wait. He was pretty sure he would either have to tag along with a higher-tanked researcher or wait till he got promoted, and that might take a while. "That makes sense," he agreed, and his brows drew in slightly in a worried expression. "Um. I didn't really do any shopping last time I had leave. Maybe I can do that next time." He hadn't put a lot of thought into food and resource supply for the community. That was kind of dumb actually. He should probably be thinking about that more. He set the watering can down to accept the key, his eyes rounding with shock and delight. The key went into his pocket with reverent care, and then, impulsively, he grabbed Rin in a tight, gleeful hug. "Thank you so much oh my god," he enthused.

Rin laughed at the hug and gently rubbed Noah's scalp as if it were hair. "You've got a great mind under all that short brown fuzz, don't ever let it go to waste." She abruptly jabbed him in an armpit with a finger once she felt she was done with this hug and needed to carry on.
"There are a lot of little secrets you will find in this place with time but for now I shall indicate two." She rounded a row and began touching a plant that seemed mostly out of place, it was surrounded by several other like itself but mostly bushes and flowers. "This is cannabis. William sells the stuff and uses it for barter, he is the main regular customer I get and is a dear friend of mine. Do not harm these under any circumstances. He gives a wonderful price and a lot of rare goods for them." It was a little embarrassing pointing that out, but it was a lead up to something special and dear to her own heart. It was an intricate pot containing a plant bearing a single red bloom. "And this is what started it all, it is a flower I found here on Deus. I almost killed it when I first found it, but someone saved it for me. It brought me hope and I have yet to be able to classify it exactly. I feel it to be in the liliaceae family however." She looked just a little bit prouder in its presence.

"ThaaaaEEEEP!" Noah let go abruptly and scooted back, hugging himself and eyeing Rin warily with an expression that he thought was unsuspicious but which actually betrayed that he was painfully ticklish and trying very hard not to show it. He coughed. "Thanks," he squeaked. His eyes rounded again when Rin showed him the special plant. "You have pot?" he squeaked, and then, "I won't do anything to it, I promise," and then, "I mean, except water it, I mean, I'll, I'll take care of it, I'm not, um, I wouldn't ... " He trailed off, shut up, and listened to her explanation about the red flower. After a moment, he asked, in a very small voice, "Would you like me to try and find out what it is or would you rather do that yourself?"

Rin gave Noah a wide-eyed bewildered stare before smirking to herself, "do your friends know about this?" The smirk stuck around through her explanations. At the end of her tour she finally relaxed. "Yes sir, not illegal here. Just don't get caught high while working. You are free to try, a benefit of working here or share with your little friends. Just make sure William always gets his orders filled."
She laughed again at his expense before patting his shoulder, "I know what you mean."
She looked comforted at his additional question, "I do not mind. She deserves at the very least a name after all this time."
