The doctor sat back in his chair with a sigh, "Fine, the cost will be one hundred, paid up front. That's one hundred thousand, you understand."

Rep gave the man a very long sad sort of look. He couldn't argue with money, it was the bane of his entire existence at this point.
"I bet if I was a ******** woman I could have paid in blow jobs. It's ******** sexism is what it is." he shook his head. "I'm sick of people ******** arbitrarily charging me a ******** mint because I'm a ******** man and because they think I'm an a*****e." He sighed heavily and dramatically. "I don't know why you are suddenly super mean, you were reasonable before, and no as expensive."

"William," the doctor answered, still all patience. "Do you really wish to talk about myself and my work as if I were a whore? And that I should be a cheap one at that?" There was genuine curiosity in his voice.

Rep stopped himself mid-rant to give H an odd sort of deer in the headlights stare. "I didn't say you would be a cheap whore." he said. "I mean haha you just like, charged me like a hundred grand, that's no cheap. And your work is ******** amazing man, it's like ******** wizardry. You are a ******** wizard, I can't do it, I tried and all I could ******** do was sort easy runes and clean minipets s**t. I don't think you are low level or anything like that man. I don't. I came to you cause what I need is magic and you are the magic man." He was in all out panic mode and whatever rudimentary filters usually resided between him and what he said were completely gone.
"You shouldn't be cheap and I just used ..that metaphor cause its what...I'm familiar with?" he hazarded helplessly. "If you were a whore - and you aren't - you'd be a classy as ******** one. One like...like right now - that I probably couldn't afford."

Somewhere Rep had stumbled off the edge of fear and into a mad manic place where anything was possible and H was just a reasonable man being unreasonable. "Aww come oan man." he pleaded. "Please please please please please. I'll leave you alone, I'll clean minipets s**t, I'll do whatever. I just really don't have any ******** money. Ace has what little money I have and even that is completely ********. You know how much I break s**t and how like, poor I am. I mean if the money's that important, let me go to the human world, let me rob a bank or something and I'll get it for you, I'll be good for it. But its just ******** impossible on our wages. Utterly ******** impossible. You are smart. You are the smartest. The smartest guy on this island. No question. I bet you are smarter than ******** Einstein was."
He wrung his hands. "Please? With a ******** cherry on top?"

"Two hundred thousand," the doctor replied, growing obviously bored. "I'm not a shopkeeper William, the services you demand are not generally for sale. I've offered you an alternative. It's hardly my problem if you feel yourself above the work of my highly trained and most trusted techs despite the fact that they're responsible for the runics that your lives depend on in the field."
Carefully setting down the bone down, he continued, "I've asked you to leave twice already and I truly dislike having to repeat myself."

"I don't think I'm above them, I just like, really wanted to get you to help so it would be top class. Plus like, your techs are ******** wonderful and all that, but the fact remains most of them think I'm s**t. I mean, you probably do too but at least you can be professional. There's a lot of petty ******** on this island and I don't want to risk all my effort to some ******** whimsical little ******** of a tech." He felt slighted himself, and living in the moment the way he did, he'd forgotten his initial terror. After all he'd stood here for a whole two minutes and he was ok, right?
"And I know you've asked me to leave, but I mean you aren't really super busy here, its like a hobby or something. You should talk more." He should compromise more too clearly. "And it's no ******** fair upping the price either. I'm TRYING here. You try ******** coming back to talk to the guy who almost killed you as if they never did. You are just ******** lucky I have experience. I just wanted one thing. One thing. I bet you could do it in five minutes if you wanted to too."

The doctor worked in silence, features emptying of all but the singular focus needed. His hands moved smoothly, with both consideration and confidence and the bird began to fully take shape beneath them. Hours passed, and from time to time a hunter would come in to report or ask questions or make small deliveries. All of them seemed startled by the Sun hunter, but one and all simply ignored him after it was clear the doctor was as well.
The final, delicate bit of bone was glued in place and the doctor sat back to gaze at it in the darkening light of dusk. Then he prepared to leave.
