If Shun noticed her sticking her tongue out at him, he didn't do anything to show it. For now, he closed his eyes and leaned back in his seat.

"Thank you," he uttered under his breath. It was hard to say if it was meant for Shakuntala or Danny, or both. He seemed fairly content to just keep to himself, though one eye cracked open as he heard something about... lucky curry?

That didn't make a great deal of sense to him. How the hell could food be lucky? The idea seemed rather ludicrous.

Shakuntala's eyes glazed over with a look that read, "Oh no." She turned her head over her shoulder as if seeking out her mother for this, but the woman was still occupied with whatever customer was keeping her away. Slowly, she shook her head at Danny.

"No... Mum's curry isn't lucky. Look..." She pointed to the sign. "It says test your luck. It's a game mum put together. I bring out six plates of curry rice... And five out the six are really, really spicy... You pick one to eat... If you pick the one that isn't spicy, mum'll cook for you for a month. If not, well, you have to pay for all six dishes... D-Do you want to play?"

Despite offering this, the dark haze that flickered across the seventeen year old's features advised against it.

Danny leaned forward in her seat. "Wait wait. So I get to eat spicy curry AND I might win a chance for your mom to cook for me for forever??"

That was ...

"BEST DEAL EVER!!" She reached across the way to jostle Shun out of whatever sleep he was dozing off into. "C'mon c'mon let's play!"

"..."

For a good moment or so, Shun just stared at Danny silently. Judging.

"She said a month. That's hardly forever," he scoffed. However, he couldn't say that it wasn't tempting. That would be a month of him being well fed for once. However, the gamble was a pricey one. Spicy wasn't his concern.

"I have no money," he grumbled, "I can't afford to pay for six bloody dishes let alone one."

(( First die for Danny, second for Shun. :3 ))

The girl winced from Danny's enthusiasm. Never before had a contestant been so excited to try her mother's food.

"...If you say so."

Shakuntala scuttled back to the kitchen after a nod and brought back the first six set of plates with her. Repeating her trek, the second courses were set before the male. Twiddling her thumbs, she looked between the two and and gulped. She couldn't determine if the game was torturous or its players masochistic.

"P-Pick only one plate and take a bite. Good luck..."

Shun was a little stunned with that sudden declaration. He really did not know what to make of this girl.

"Just how much money do you have?"

It wasn't long before he had six curry dishes laid out before him. He eyed the six and picked up a spoon. Shakuntala seemed nervous. Was the spice that painful? He supposed he would find out soon enough. Most likely he was going to pick a 'wrong' dish anyway. Letting out a sigh, he scooped up a small bit from one of the plates and took a bite.

And then it felt as though his mouth were on fire.

The young man flinched and shut his eyes tightly in pain. He reached for a glass of water and practically downed it all at once. That still did little to relieve the agony that was in his mouth right about now.

"Shhhiiit," he hissed before getting up and leaving. He needed to find a way to put out this fire.

Danny chortled something ugly when Shun erupted from his seat to go find something to drink. It really just made her more excited to have her mouth burned off- Danny loved spicy. She was from a spice family after all!

When she took a bite, something undeniably hot lit in her mouth, but her overall reaction was pathetically lukewarm. In fact, after taking one bite, she took another. And another. Until the bowl was completely wiped clean. "That was good! You should make more like that!" she encouraged the lady. "Though it's not a good idea to challenge a spice heiress!"

She wiped her face in a very unladylike, un-heiress fashion and put her hands on her hips. "I gotta go find my friend or I'll never see him again. I'll come back here though, okay?" She threw a bag of coins onto the counter, probably much more than what 12 measley bowls of curry cost. Danny wasn't very concerned in the way of money though. "Can you take the bowls over to the Fitzgerald Spice Co. booth? I wanna finish these off! Just leave 'em there, I'll get them later!"

With that Danny gave a wave and began chasing down the black-haired vagabond.

Shakuntala cupped a hand over her mouth in empathy as she watched Shun quickly shoot up from his seat and exit her mum's booth. She thought it was for the best; save one more mouth from the devilish sting of her mum's cooking.

Watching Danny down the curry as if it were water caused her to drop her hand and jaw as well in astonishment. Her mouth continued to hang ajar just as the other girl dropped a bagful of coins on the booth's counter and exit following after the male. She nodded her head in affirmation towards having Danny come back and to deliver the bowls. Thinning her lips after watching the duo's back descend in the throng of other pedestrians, Shakuntala fingered the bag atop the counter top open and spilled its contents out. After counting the amount, she would take to Danny's request.

Some people are so odd...
she said as she twiddled a coin between her fingers.

It was a pity that she and Kiyoshi had had to split up--he had unfortunately been pulled away by his sister--which meant that Cecilia was now wandering the festival on her own. A little lonely? Perhaps, but the small girl was determined not to let her lack of company keep her down. After all, this was a celebration! She was determined to enjoy herself to the fullest no matter what!

When she came upon this particular booth, the words "taste test" immediately caught her attention. Standing to the side, she listened intently as the woman running the activity explained the rules to a few people who were milling about as she was, her interest peaking.

Hmm...sounded like fun! And what was the worst that could happen, right? Trotting forward, the fifteen year old eagerly lift her hand and gave it a little wave in an effort to catch someone's attention.

"Oh, oh! May I try?"

A broad smile encompassed Kamla's faces. "One more challenger!" she said with a flourish and a beckon to the sudden hand to dart up enthusiastically. A few onlookers peered up from their meals to see another victim (or winner!) take their chance at the woman's taste test.

Looking down to the fifteen year old, she said as she tossed a curled lock from her face, "Of course you may try. Shakuntala!"

The short-haired girl at the counter let out a wistful sigh. Here we go again... she huffed as she made her way to the back of the booth for the umpteenth time.

Spooning six dishes onto plates, Shakuntala turned on her heel and walked back the way she came; sliding the meals in a single row on the table before her mother. Bowing out of the way, she let her parent take the reins of the show once again.

"One of these plates could be your prize. Take your pick!"

Now this really was something that Cecilia should have though about first. The fact that she couldn't handle spicy foods should have been a tip off that, unless she was very lucky, there was no way this was going to end well. Always one to jump at a challenge though, the girl had no intention of backing down now that she had volunteered, moving forward to stare intensely at the six plates.

Hmm...which one? Which one was the one that she wanted? She couldn't tell any of them apart from how they looked or how they smelled--it seemed like the only way she'd figure it out was if she were to taste one.

So taste one she did--and with a pretty generous spoonful to boot.

The small girl immediately realized something was wrong the moment the curry was in her mouth. Everything just began to burn, the pain sensors in her mouth going haywire. Despite the fact that tears were forming in her eyes and she was beginning to tremble, Cecilia forced herself to chew the excessively-large bite she had in her mouth, struggling to swallow it. She...she was a heroine! She didn't back down to any sort of challenges, whether it was taking on a titan, or saving a princess, or...or this.

Finally, after a great deal of struggle, she finally managed to get the bite down. Wiping at her red and tear-streaked face, the girl sniffled, but at least felt a little accomplished with the fact that she had at managed to get that single bite down. She very clearly had not chosen the right one, though... "It...it's spicy...but good..." She managed to offer in a choked, squeaky voice, turning to look between Shakuntala and her mother with a weak, trembling smile.

Digging into her pockets, she withdrew some coins to pay for the dishes, counting them out slowly as she tried to ignore the continuous burning in her mouth and ears, where the sensation had apparently somehow spread to.

The two women's reaction to Cecilia were incredibly different. Kamla remained standing firmly in place with a pair of hands on her hips and a triumphant smile as Shakuntala, ignoring her duty to collect money to count and store at the counter, hastily rushed from where she stood to fetch the girl a much needed glass of water as she did to so many others. Returning with the ice cool tumbler brimming with water cupped between her hands, she presented it to the green-haired girl.

"F-For you..." she muttered. "Are you okay-"

Shakuntala's voice was drowned out under a hearty chortle. Kamla's chest heaved with each hiccup of laughter until it became a contagious rhythm amongst the other goers of the booth. Shakuntala ducked her head at their amusement with a slightly perturbed look on their face. Despite being quite upset that her mother found entertainment in watching players suffer, she didn't have the backbone to speak up about it.

"So, would you like to try again, miss? Second time's the charm!"

Shakuntala shot the girl a look that read, "Please, don't."

She tried to assure the girl who had kindly brought her water that she was alright, but it was honestly a little hard to choke out any sort of intelligible sentence when her mouth was on fire. Gratefully taking the offered water, Cecilia quickly took a big gulp, taking solace in the temporary relief before the spices took hold of her again.

This was going to take a while to get rid of, she could see.

Taking smaller sips of her water, the girl nodded when she felt like she had regained a little bit of her ability to speak without sounding like she was dying. "Y-yes, I...I'm okay, I think. And thank you very much for the water." Taking another sip, she offered Shakuntala a smile and opened her mouth to say something else, only to freeze when the girl's mother spoke up once more.

..."Is...is that a challenge?" Because if it was, she really couldn't back down, even if she honestly didn't want to go through that again. It was a heroine's duty to face every and all challenges that she was issued, after all!

Though she was kind of beginning to have her doubts about that right about now.

Once again on his own, Rikki walked between booths and examined the various wares and services. There was a lot to take in, but it was fun even by himself. As he squeezed between two booths he smelled something delicious and followed his nose to what appeared to be a curry stand.

"Is this an eating game?" He asked, trying not to drool. "I'd love to try."
