Briella shook her head, looking down at the sap once more. "No it is pretty hard actually. Kaa found a good one." she said as she patted her sister on the back.
The next thing she knew her sister was climbing up a tree, which was a good move. Hopefully she could see better than Briella could from the ground. She put her hand above Dyakida's. Than the next thing that her sister said caused her to frown. Critters? "What kind of critters Kaa?" she practically shouted as she drew her blades.
They were getting close, and he didn't know what to do. What would Dyakida do? She wasn't a fighter, though at the same time Briella was sure that Dyakida could take care of herself. She did have her staff.

(There are 8 birds. Kaa kills 3 of them, Dyakida kills 2, Brie kills 3)
"Uh..." Kaalnia regretted leaving her spear on the ground, "I think they're..." she looked close again, "Scorra. All of them. Lots of them. Tons of them..." she hopped down, "All headed this way!" she said, grabbing her spear, "And they look crazy" not that they didn't always look crazy, the few she'd seen, but...
"Gah!" the cloud of feathers, wings, beaks and noise was suddenly very close, and coming closer. If anything, it was even noisier as it spotted the Alkidikes in its path, and the swarm - it was a swarm - charged at them with its winged fury, clearly hostile. Kaalnia dodged a vicious peck attack, clearly consternated. "How'd they get here so fast?!" said Kaalnia, frantically stabbing out with her spear and catching one of the fierce birdy-monsters in its broad chest, "I swear they were, like, minutes away!" She drove it in, impaling the bird and pulling it to the side as she slashed out. The bird crumpled to the ground, but its fellows took offense to his death.
"Aaaah! Crap!" she exclaimed, as the large birds began to mob her. They had beaks and claws, and their wings - though not sharp - hurt too. "Ow! Ow ow ow! Not my face! Ow!" she yelped, dropping her spear and protecting her head from the scorra, "Brie! Help! They're not happy!" she yelped.
Understatement of the week.

"Scorra, what...?" Dyakida didn't know much about Scorra. Apparently they were big Tale birds, smaller than a kinfa but bigger than the birds that roosted in the jungle. She knew they didn't really fly, but ran on two legs and were kept as pets and scouts. She'd seen Scorra feather trinkets when she had been little, and remembered them being colorful and soft.
Those Scorra? The loud flapping sound was from Scorra? Fluffy, pet, Scorra? Dyakida was incredulous, because that sound was menacing and fluffy pet things were not.
"Are you sure...!" she began, when suddenly, the noise increased in volume until it was practically right in her ears. Her antennae vibrated with the sudden, rushing presence of more bodies. "Gah!" she yelped, covering her ears and nearly dropping her knife in the process. She managed to keep it, though. "Mother Aisha, they're loud!" she said, backing away until she could get her bearings.Peyla for her part, was having none of this. She chimed in terror and flew into the trees to hide amongst the leaves. Big flocks of big birds intent on rampaging? Not for her, thanks.(1138/1600) (0/2 killed)

Scorra? She had to think for a second before she remembered what Scorra were. Big birds, tall ones if she remembered correctly. But where they dangerous, that was something she couldn't remember. However when Kaa said they looked crazy she started to get a bit worried. Any animal, even if it wasn't dangerous, became so when it was crazy. This was something that could go bad, very very bad.
As the Scorra came closer she moved to place herself in front of Dyakida. She watched as Kaalnia killed one of the beast, she was sure that her sister could take care of herself. "They are fast moving creatures, be careful!" she said to her sister. However her warning came a little too late, as Kaa dropped her spear and fell to the floor. Briella sighed as she lashed out at the beast with her swords. "I'm coming. Dyakida don't move!" she told her friend as she put an arm on Dyakida's shoulder. There was a rather large tree behind Dyakida so her friend was relatively safe, much safer than Kaa was at the moment.
She moved quickly, grabbing her sister's spear as well as her sisters hand while fighting off the Scorra. She helped up Kaa and handed her her spear. "Come on, we can fight them off!" she said with a reassuring smile. With that she took off, moving back towards Dyakida again. She took down one of the Scorra, and the others seemed to target her as she did so. Seemed like they weren't just passing through, they wanted a fight.

Dyakida would have liked to follow Briella's directions and not move until her sister had dealt with whatever was tormenting Kaalnia and could protect her, but the scorra clearly had other ideas.
A shriek and the feeling of feathers were Dyakida's only warning before something sharp stabbed into her arm and tore at her leg.
"Ah!" she exclaimed, slashing out despearately with her dagger, feeling the blade catch briefly against something that gave and, finally, broke against the edge, followed by a warm spray of blood and a gurgling croak as something slumped, limply, against her. She moved back, letting whatever it was fall to the ground near her feet.
She felt the tree at her back and jabbed out with her staff, hoping to catch any more of the birds before they got to her.
"And to think..." she murmured, trying to find an order in the chaos of shrieking and flapping and clattering, "People keep these as pets."

Kaalnia gave Briella a grateful smile as she was pulled away from the corpse of the scorra and its fellows. She took her spear and stabbed it into the fray, bringing it away bloody, though she could not see, through the flurry of feathers, if any scorra fell.
"Hey Brie" she said, hoping to Aisha that her face was unharmed, "You remember that game where you have a pail of water and you put fruit in it and try to pick it up in your mouth?" she stabbed into the fray again, trying to hold the storm of beaks and claws away from her. This time, she had to pull harder to free it, and she saw another scorra fall, only to be covered by its advancing fellows. "That bobbing game? or whatever it was called?" She swiped out with the end of her spear, blocking the sharp appendages as the scorra lashed at her. She moved to stand nearer to her sister.
"Doesn't this kinda remind you of that?" she asked, "Or is it just me?"(1129/1600) (2/3 killed)

"Dya! You killed one!" she said proudly. Although she should have been confused since Dyakida was blind, she wasn't in the least. Before she was blind she was a fighter, so when it came down to it Dyakida would be able to fight. It wasn't ideal, but when push came to shove it would do. As she swiped at the birds she listened to her sister, missing a word or two every few words due to the flap of the scorra's feathers. However she got the message and started laughing.
"Yes, it does in a way. A very twisted version of the game." she said with a shake of her head.
"Dya, if I ever wanted to bring home one of these creatures don't let me." she said shaking her head. She didn't ever want to see another of these creatures again. Another fell to her swords and she whooped happily. Soon there would be none left, well unless more of them came from somewhere. She hoped there weren't any more.

"Wholly by accident," gasped Dyakida, her staff hitting a fleshy body that flapped against it. She jabbed at it again and flailed out with her knife, feeling it cut, something soft and feathery falling by her foot. She nudged it gingerly with her bare toes.
It thrashed, nearly making her fall over, her heart jumping into her throat, as she, without thinking, beat at it with the butt of her staff. She felt the wood impact something soft and seemed to space out for a moment as she hit it over and over.
Finally, she came too, nudging it with her staff again. She did not feel it move. "Accident." she said again, panting. Her foot hurt from what felt like a deep, stinging cut of some sort, and she felt utterly winded - she hadn't fought in a long, long time.
"Briella, if you bring one home, I'll remind you..." she gasped out, "I will remind you very thoroughly." she jabbed out again halfheartedly, but struck nothing. "You won't believe how throughly I will remind you."

"Oh yeah. Really twisted. Glad I'm not using my mouth on this one..." she stabbed into the flock again, "Anyway, I think we're making a dent in them." she said hopefully "At least... i think we are... there's a lot fewer than before!"
She pinned a bird down with the blade of her spear and stabbed down definitively. "Hey! I got another! If they weren't so mean, I'd be having fun!" she winced, the scratches on her face still fresh. "'cept I'm not. I'd rather fight you any day, Brie. She knocked one of the birds in the head with the butt of her spear, "You don't go for the face, see." she shoved another one away with the side, "And you're voice is much nicer."
She had moved forward a bit, and she retreated to Briella's side. "... so if you get one of these things as a pet..." Kaalnia grit her teeth, chagrined at the very thought, "I say, more power to ya, sis. More power to ya."(1299/1600) (3/3 killed)
