Lorend held her breath as the sole blue so far came near. For a moment she thought Paige had impressed the little creature. "Ah tough luck," she murmured as the blue went to a healer. "Those greens look like an interesting bunch." The teen gave the eggs a look and nodded. "In that half peeled way? I wasn't about to wash them for the gold though." Their mama would have probably taken her hands off if she or anyone had gone near them.

"Congrats," she nodded toward a healer as the blue made his choice. She giggled softly to herself as she noticed a small blue dragon at his side. Well matched it seemed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Quietly she waited. Lathis could only watch as the blue was the first off the sand and first to impress. He was a cute one he was. She exhaled, remembering to breath. It wouldn't look good if she was as blue as he was. With the blue clearly claimed, the girl turned her attention to the four greens.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There wasn't quite the same sense of anticipation as at the dragon hatching, but it was still fun. Bacha smiled as someone claimed the blue. Ah there was that tiny tiny blue beside him. What a cute trio they made. She moved over a bit as Ryala rejoined those hoping to attract a flit. "Good luck," she whispered.

Even though none of the greens had yet left the nest another three eggs began to fight to escape. It seemed though that this trio had no time for taking turns. As if by some unheard cue all three eggs broke at once spilling their contents onto the sand. They didn't offer much in the way of colour variety as another two greens toppled out. A dark green literally rolled out of her egg, her momentum carrying her so far that she tumbled off the trough and landed in a heap on the floor. Her wing tangled under her and the green set about writhing to try and get herself untangled, only succeeding in working herself up more. The paler green however seemed content to sit in the remains of her egg and not worry too much about it. Though her arrival did send the two of the earlier greens to hatch off the edge of the trough and out into the crowd, clearly six greens was just far too many.

It was the third hatchling however that seemed to draw everyone's attention. The bronze had unfortunately come out of his egg the wrong way. Both upside-down and tail first. The dark bronze tail and hind legs wiggled ineffectively as he tried to right himself. The egg that still claimed his torso however only made his wiggling result in an ineffective rocking motion as he rolled from side to side.

It was the green that hatched third that jumped from the trough first. Unfortunately she jumped right down onto her newly hatched sister. The frightened youngster shrieked in surprise as the larger green landed on top of her. Twisting her head her eyes flashed red as she snapped at her attacker, tiny teeth sinking into her sister's flank. As the larger green leapt free the tiny green tore out from under her running blindly forward. She swerved around a person and managed to collide with a leg. Not having time to recover the little green scrambled up the leg and forced her way into their boot. The tiny firelizard trembled as she finally stopped thrashing and running around like a headless wherry. Frightened eyes turned upwards and she met the face of her hiding place and shrank back. They weren't going to hurt they were they?
User Image

The unexpected attack cause the larger green to give a yelp and jump away. She looked back at her leg and saw the small bite mark. What was that for? She hadn't meant to land on her. How unreasonable. Were she a lesser firelizard then she would have undoubtedly held a grudge, but really it wasn't worth her time. She dismissed the matter with a flick of her tail and strutted away from the scene. A giggle attracted her attention and the green turned her head to see how close she was to a human. She was quickly distracted though by the meat in the humans hand. Hey! Hey you! Yes you! Could she just take that off your hands, please? Yes, thank you, that. The firelizard practically began to climb the riders are while she was looking at the healer. She wanted those morsels.

Oh, the blue impressed to someone he didn't know! One of the healers that had Impressed at the last hatching. Ionan grinned. It was a pretty one too, the lucky guy. He set about taking a handful of meat from the kitchen worker's bowl before taking his place, again, next to Daimon.

Pretty eggs hatched pretty firelizards, he decided. And they were painted quite nicely, in Ionan's opinion, even if they shouldn't have been stolen. Gold firelizards, after all, were just as protective of their babies as good dragons.

Lorend looked down startled to feel tiny claws and a weight on her arms. Distracted as she'd been, a bright green had come over and decided to help herself to the meat in her hands. Half clinging, and half hanging the green plucked a piece of meat and started to chew.

"What a pretty girl you are!" Her eyes lit up as she grinned. Slowly she moved her arms over her lap to give the green a bit more support for her hindquarters. Foen gave a delighted trill and watched. The green looked at the blue, and decided he was ok as long as he didn't want her food. She gave a soft cheep as the human moved her onto the lap. Lorend proffered the green a piece when she opened her mouth. "Oh dear, got a bit of a n** there did you? A little numbweed will take care of that after you eat."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lathis gave a soft gasp as the two greens got tangled for a moment. Poor girls. The smaller took offence to being landed upon. She winced at the bite. The two greens scattered into the crowd. It looked like both had picked a person. She grinned at the blue's happy welcome.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bacha ooohed as more flits hatched. Two more greens and a bronze! A blue and two greens claimed. She wondered what direction they might go. The girl glanced around, hoping her brother might have shown up. Not seeing him she glanced back toward the baby flits.

K'star smiled indulgently at the little firelizards. Ahh this brought back such fine memories. So many expectant worried faces and the darling clumsy babies causing such fine chaos. He flashed back happily to Jedith's hatching, what a glorious day.

His dragon chuckled in his head and K'star watched the scaled egg he had found in the stable wondering what it would be. No doubt just as beautiful as the rest of the hatchlings he could already see. What day was better then one filled with dragons and firelizards?

A small egg began to shake and judder faster than the rest. The occasional twitch could be seen here and there, but it seemed the ones intent on being first had already broken free and the rest of the clutch was less inclined to explode out of their eggs. The egg that now drew attention flopped onto its side as it rolled, cracked ran along its shell. Suddenly a bright blue foot burst from the egg. It waved around for a moment, touching the outside of the egg before drawing back inside. While other flits seemed to believe that coming out nose first work best, this dragon seemed to think that the top of his head should be first and promptly headbutted the hole bigger. The blue drew himself out, standing proudly atop his empty shell. The blue even seemed to pose a moment, before a crack caught his attention. Looking down the blue realised that cracks were spreading from his feet. Oh dear. Luckily the blue managed to leap free just before the shell collapsed in on itself. Well, that saved him some embarrassment at least. It didn't take long for the blue to decide to sit down and begin to pose again.

Another firelizard however had decided that she'd lingered long enough. One of the most recent green to hatch, she'd been largely overlooked after the spectacle her sisters had made of themselves. No, matter, she wasn't interested in the people here anyway. Jumping from the trough the green firelizard walked straight past the people that offered her scraps of raw meat. No, that would simply not do at all. Besides she was looking for something in particular, something familiar. She'd felt it a moment ago. The young green walked clear of the hatching and off into the rest of the hall. She paused and looked around, now where was it. Her small eyes scanned the room until they rested on a lad sat on a table. You! She flaired her wings and gave a loud squawk. You were the familiar thing! You would do nicely. Now it was time that she was fed and it was Daimon's job to do it.

Z'fer

She's PRECIOUS!

She's IN MY BOOT!

Feed her! Quick! The poor little darling is scared! Outside, the normally smug and prideful green was cooing as she watched the hatching through her bonded's eyes.

Z'fer's eye twitched but he untangled a little scrap of meat and held it above the green hatchling's head. Shaff she was tiny if she could fit in there. It had taken all of his control not to kick the sharding boot off in a panic as he felt something crawl up his leg and slip inside. The little green hesitated before snapping at the meat lighting fast, retreating below the wide brim to eat her prize before sticking her head back out with a curious peep.

She was rewarded with another scrap of meat, held higher. He would have to coax her out if he wanted to be able to move again apparently. Next firelizard hatching I'm wearing tighter boots. Z'fer kept an eye out on the clutch. There was still that bronze out there... if he could get the little green out of the way he could still try for that one. Iacauth sent a feeling of fire and ice at him for such thoughts.

Cai

It was an interesting feeling, the impression of the firelizard. It was almost like it wasn't there. There was no real change or voice added to his head as there had been so thoroughly with Genith. Instead he just happened to notice as the little blue relaxed onto his forearm, that he could feel it's fullness and how tired it was. The feelings weren't strong enough to have an affect on his own needs though. Not like Geniths.

Well of course not. I do think this was a good idea Caimine. He is quiet and calm. Cai nodded in agreement. Genith had hated the amount of time he'd spent with patients until Cai had explained his job and his relationship with these people. Eventually Genith would be too big to fit into the infirmary and having something else to keep them distracted as Cai worked would be useful. All the better to have it sooner so it could be trained before Genith was out of work.

<Greens,> Irith mummer, looking over the delicate little flits and preened slightly at the sight of healthy green hatchings, even if they were flits. <They are rather lovely, aren't they.> Look at that! A little bronze, caught and well that was most undignified for such an important color. Irith hmmphed slightly. Jemi did want a flit, and what ever choose her Jemi would have to be the very best.

Jemi grinned and reached over to take a handful of the meat, carefully dividing it into strips and not minding the blood on her hands. <I think, I rather like a green.> She mused.

<You should have the very best of what every color. Though I think you really should have a bronze or a gold, something brilliant.> Irith replied back, settling to watch the hatching. It seemed having a flit was a bit of a rank increase and perhaps there really was something to this messenger thing.

Well done Lorendmine! Tribleth watched the green through her rider's eyes and hummed happily.

Lorend laughed silently at her dragon. Not just a bit biased are you? She got a huff in reply from the green. Keeping her thoughts happy at having the flit in her lap, she continued to feed her. We'll have to come up for a name with her. Lorend hinted to her dragon and instantly felt Tribleth go into thought. She kept an eye on the rest of the hatchlings scurrying about just in case.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lathis turned her head to watch as one bright green with dark splotches went past. It was almost dragon-ish how she went for one boy. Good for him! She glanced around at the other flits. Are they seeking specific people out or is it just chance?
Clearly it is all chance Lathismine. Koioth replied. How could it bother wise? They were not dragons.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bacha stayed quite as a boy away from the action managed to attract a green. She'd be happy with a green. Then she could tell her brother they both impressed to greens. A smile crossed her lips. She gave a quick look around at those already feeding a flit. The one hiding in the rider's boot was adorable! Bacha hoped he could get her out before he tried walking.

Looking back at the nest, she saw the newly hatched blue posing. She muffled her laugh lest she scare the creature. He was a beauty, and already knew he was handsome.

Two eggs sat side by side. One had a rather simple design, being just two colours, the underside a dark gray and the top a dark pink colour. The two began to twitch in an odd rhythm as though the pair were matching each others wiggles. One ill timed rock however sent the two eggs colliding, large cracks forming at the site of impact. A frightened cheeping could be heard from within the eggs and for a moment they remained still. It wasn't long however before their rocking began again, though slightly more reserved this time around. Gradually the cracks spread and began to connect, finally leading to the collapse of parts of the eggs. Within seconds of each other two blue heads popped out of the gaps. The two looked around before meeting each others eyes the two stared at each other. One was a bright mid-tone, whilst the other was remarkably dark. The look lasted a long while before the two leaned forward and gently booped their noses together.

At the back of the clutch another egg was working on its attempts at escaping. The twists and rocks were erratic and the firelizard seemed to be having great trouble with getting the egg to relent. Areas of the shell warped outward as the would-be hatchling tried to force its way out. It was only when it pushed on both sides at once that it won the battle. The firelizard's wings exploded out of the egg and flared out, the rest of the egg crumbled after a moment, covering the brown firelizard with egg shards. Clearly bothered by this the brown immediately set about picking the pieces off of his body. Pausing just once to watch as half an egg rolled past him with half a bronze sticking out of it.

The first hatched firelizard was still looking around in her odd jerky way. The green seemed to be taking in as much of her surroundings as possible before doing something. It seemed at last though that she had seen enough to make her choice. Walking to the edge of the trough she looked down, twisting her head one way and then the other as she judged the distance. She drew back and jumped off the trough, fluttering her wings as fast as she could. Sadly, her still damp wings were not strong enough to let her fly and the dark firelizard slowly drifted down to the floor. Her chest was heaving after the attempt. That hadn't gone as planned. She looked about once again and spotted something most interesting. Darting forward the green stopped in front of a weyrling, humming excitedly.

It seemed the posing blue was loving the attention. He was an attractive fellow, wasn't he? He hated to deprive them of his wonder, but the rumbling in his stomach was most insistent. He absolutely must get his stomach filled, sorry to leave you all, but he must be on his way. The blue firelizard strode across the trough and hopped quickly down. He walked along looking for something to eat, but turning his nose up at the people who held it. If their grips were weaker then he would have maybe attempted to snatch some. It wasn't the most honourable behaviour, but really they could blame him. He needed it after all. His eyes caught sight of a smaller human and he wondered if he had a chance to claim that quickly. He crouched down and assessed his target before darting forward and jumping to try and pluck the meat from the eight turn old hands.

Rowan and Daimon

With Nimbus curled up on the table, and Rowan’s attention on him, he didn’t noticed when the boy came over and started speaking to him. It wasn’t until he went and sat next to Daimon, that Ionan was noticed. Daimon had a habit of treating kids like they were adults, meaning no baby voice or watching what he said. It made him pretty popular with the older kids, but not so much with the younger ones, or their parents.. Rowan was good with kids, though. Especially the young ones, who were close enough to small animals that his animal-whispering powers seemed to work on them. Daimon kicked his brother under the table.

Rowan looked up. ‘What?’ he signed, frowning.
“This kid wanted to talk to you.” He said, indicating Ionan. In fact, he hadn’t heard any of what he’d said earlier, he just wanted Rowan to distract the kid so he wouldn’t have to.
Rowan look over at the eight-turn-old. Oh! Rowan wasn’t much of a talker, but he liked kids. He nodded to the sleeping Nimbus and put a finger to his lips, grinning.

Meanwhile, quite to Daimon’s surprise, one of the hatched greens had wandered over to him. Her squawk got his attention.
“Oh! Uh… what does she want?”
I think she wants us, Daimon! Quick, feed her! Kleimeeth instructed. Doing as she said, Daimon quickly grabbed a handful of meat and offered it to the little green, who hopped up into his lap. Wow! He was lucky. Especially since he hadn’t been paying attention to the hatching just then. Did they usually walk right up to you like that? He really didn’t know much about firelizards though. He should ask his sister to help train her like she did Mask.

Across the table, Rowan saw the hungry blue snapping at bowls of meat here and there. Instinct made him move his own bowl before the blue grabbed it, but after emptying some of the pieces out into Daimon's, he set the bowl on the floor for the blue to eat. It was for them after all, he just didn't want it over eating.

((Sorry, is the 11 year old Rowan? I wasn't sure.))

Jemi smiled, watching the large green for a flit attempt her first flight. She said, watching the green's chest heave from exhaustion before darting towards.. her? Ooh. Jemi knelt, careful and offered the little green a chunk of meat. <She's sort of like you.>

Irith eyes whirled in confusion as she padded close, staring at the flit.
<Like me?> She asked.

<Beautiful, brave, and large.>

((Sorry, that should have said eight. When a firelizard impresses a char they get a PM about it.))

((Thanks, I thought so, but I figured maybe he was a tricky hatchling, going for Rowan's food and then impressing to Ionan anyway xD))

Edit: Opps! Tried to press 'quote', but I guess this saves space anyway

Wen smiled, glancing at his partner. She had a flit! A rather large green, much like Irith and that was a bit bemusing. The pattern on her wings was rather lovely though.

He looked back to the pair of blues, the bronze and brown, and was there still some greens? Quite a few flits had hatched.

When the blue came to his hand, reaching for the meat, he gave a bright smile. Rowan and Daimon forgotten, he held his hand open for the tiny firelizard to eat. "Hey there, are you for me?" He beamed. He knew firelizards impressed to those who fed them--and the tiny blue was certainly gobbling up the meat in his hand. "Hey, slow down!" He laughed. "You're going to get a stomach ache!"

He glanced at Rowan, then Daimon, and smiled brightly. "You're related to Astri, aren't you? She's my friend. Why isn't she here? I wanna show her my firelizard!"
