She tried another spoonful of pudding, found it tasteless, swallowed, and set it back on the table, her eyes downcast. I'm sorry for your loss was the most banal answer, but also the most appropriate response; she couldn't fault Harlow for at least extending the courtesy. Weeks later Nevada's death still affected her, though, no matter how she tried to hide it. Stormy considered herself lucky her new friend (friend?) was sympathetic rather than stoic. "It was my sister," she explained in a soft voice. "Not blood related, but a sister nevertheless. I'd, um, rather not go more into it right now. Sorry."
She offered Harlow a weak smile, trying to undo the damage she'd unwittiingly wrought. "It's more important to get you up to speed anyway. Horsemen are really dangerous, but so long as you're not alone, you'll be okay. Come find me whenever we're on missions, if you want! I'm great at defending."
Usually.
"We haven't really seen a lot of activity from them in a while anyway! Your main focus should be getting used to the facilities, orienting yourself, practicing with your weapon, that sort of stuff. If you want, um, I could help you out with that another time?" Stormy offered tentatively, her hands curling closer to her body in sympathy to Harlow's silent anxiety, half wanting to stop talking, half wanting to attempt a hug. "Once you get into the habit, all've this'll become routine, promise."

Harlow nodded at Stormy as she said that it was her sister. Harlow could truthfully said that she was definitely in that boat before. Losing some one in the first place was hard, but it being family was even harder. It made everything that you did just sting that much more honestly. Every time you thought about them it would just hurt... and it's hard not to think about family. "Don't be sorry!" She told her stubbornly, "I understand completely, don't worry."
She nodded to her before speaking. "I will remember that!" She made a mental note to find out more about the horsemen, and then also made a note to keep herself with some one else as often as she could because she didn't want to. "I'll remember that and getting together again sounds like a great plan!" She smiled brightly and returned the hug with Stormy. She smiled and stood up and nodded at her. "Thank you so much! I will remember that!" She stretched a little before gathering her stuff and started to leave, before she stepped out the door she turned around and waved. "I'll see you around."
She was pleased with how that meeting went. She had been wanting to meet some one and it definitely made her feel better, but a little nervous at the same time. One thing was for sure which was that she was hoping not to run into a horseman any time soon.
