"That's good." Segare spoke, stepping up next to Luo as the new girl finished introducing herself. "My sensei refused me both food and sleep for a week when I was taught this lesson. He said it helps with focus and determination. Of course that could be because I wasn't a very good student and he thought it would make me take the lesson seriously." Segare chuckled, though as he said it he let his eyes trail across the room, giving a few of the more troublesome of the students present a pointed look. He may not want to do this lesson again, but letting them think he'd starve them until they learned was still an effective tactic.
"I'm Segare." He continued, focused on the new girl once more. "I'm the teacher for today's lesson, so please call me Sensei during class times. All new villagers are required to attend classes until they can be evaluated. It's a shame you had to come so soon after arriving, but don't worry too much if you can't keep up. This is our current top class, so we can shift you down a grade if necessary. Why don't you find a seat for now, get to know some of the others? Class won't be starting for a few more minutes." Segare said, waving towards the seats, and some of the students present. About half the class had filed in and started taking seats or chatting amongst themselves, but there were still plenty more to come. Timmy especially was notably absent, which never bade well, because when he was late to a class he usually pulled something... Unusual.
Turning away with a final nod to Alise, Segare returned to his desk, spinning around and hopping atop it, sitting cross legged on the desk and merely watching the class arrive and mingle, as he usually did before lessons. Some of the students would approach him to talk or ask a question, others would merely go about their business. But they all knew that when he finally got back down again, or simply started talking to the room at large, that it was time to start the lesson, and most had learned that that was the time to stop chatting and pay attention.
▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰❖ Chakra: [72/72]I'm going to be leaving town tomorrow, and won't be back and able to be active again until Saturday, so everyone just take this time to let your characters mingle. Get to know the other characters, but keep in mind that in most cases you've known the others for a year or so. Try not to lock yourself into contact with Segare or Shikaku though, cause I won't be able to reply until I'm back, and I don't want to tie things up. Assuming everyone has finally gotten into the room, class will begin when I return.
Also, all students, keep in mind that if you were present for or before the time skip, you can claim two E rank or one D rank Weapon Basic jutsu! If you're not sure what that is, ask Luo or Hikaro.

Alise looked over toward the new man that was speaking to her, he didn't seem to do much while she was talking, but as soon as she did finish, he seemed to spring into action for the man that had spoken to her at first, Luo. She was taken by surprise by him, to say the least; starve them for training? At least, that was what they did to him. "...you're a more benevolent teacher, right?" She said a tad scared, but then registered the rest of it, he seemed to be trying to connect with her in some way, at least, that's how she took it. She would take it seriously and wouldn't mess up the lesson though, and that was always beneficial.
She looked seriously at her teacher when he implied that she couldn't be able to take it, she felt insulted by it, but understood where he came from: he didn't know her or what she was capable of, so a comment of this nature would be expected. "I may or may no preform well today, because of obvious reasons. But after I'm fed I'll show you I can take anything this academy throws at me." Her words were firm, she said it out loud, everyone probably heard her. She gulped and looked around, finding no one interesting to talk to she would let others approach her, hopefully they'll be nice enough to not give her a name, or make fun of what she said.

After some serious thought for all of two seconds, Michiko decided to squeeze into the spot right between Kensei and Shikaku, just barely large enough for Michiko to plop in a cushion and sit on it. "Ken-san!" she greeted the Uchiha after she sat down, completely oblivious to the cramped conditions and potential discomfort she was giving both Kensei and Shikaku by placing herself right between them.

As Segare watched, the rest of the class, or at least most of them, filed in and took their places, forming the usual little groups and chatting. The sheer number of odd questioning looks shot towards both the pillows and Luo had him near laughter, but he refrained. The last time he'd burst into random laughter during a class half the students had fled the room, and the other hid under their desks. Of course, the time before that he had set a horde of hungry squirrels loose in the room, so it wasn't entirely unjustified. Nonetheless, it wouldn't do to have the students miss this class, so it was best to contain himself.
As Michiko finally settled on a single seat, and the vast majority of the class was present, sans Timmy, which he had to admit was worrisome, Segare decided it was time to get started. Clapping his hands twice, Segare was pleased by how quickly the room fell into silence. Someday he'd have to ask Rin what she'd done to cause this. It used to take minutes to get the kids to settle down, and a not insignificant amount of yelling, but after one lesson with Rin the kids had settled down completely and never cause trouble again. Well, most of them. Unfortunately he'd been on a mission and hadn't been able to sit in on that class. He was sure it'd be fascinating to have seen.
"Alright, if everyone can find a seat, we'll begin." The man called out, just loudly enough to carry across the room. It was only a moment before everyone was seated, and with a nod, Segare bounced up off of the desk and onto his feet once more. "Now, most of you have been with us for a good year now, and in this class we've gone over a lot of chakra theory. We've talked and talked about how chakra is formed, why it's important, and even a bit on how it forms jutsu. And, after a year of that, I know you're all bored of it! I'm bored of it!" Segare exclaimed, throwing his hands helplessly in the air and leaning back against his desk, before giving the students a grin. "So, who here is ready to learn some cool ninjutsu? Show of hands!" he called, grinning widely and holding his own left hand high.

Enthusiastically, like everything else she did, Michiko shot both her hands up in reply to Segare's left hand. Although, such enthusiasm was probably not the most comfortable thing for the people she was squished between as Michiko didn't bother to make sure her hands wouldn't hit anything on their way up.

Kensei listened to Segare's announcement and his eyes widened with joy. His joy however was interrupted by Michiko's excited hand which hit the boy on the side of the face. Kensei couldnt really blame anybody but himself, he actually should have seen it coming. He shrugged it off and raised his left hand slightly. "This should be fun, huh guys?" Kensei whispered to Michiko and Shikaku. "Maybe we'll learn some mega ultimate jutsu that could make an opponent blow up with a flex." Kensei thought about it and began to grin with excitment followed with his hand going up higher.

Luo Ushio๑Ushio Clanxxxx XXX⊗Weapon Masterxxxx▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁ ๑๑๑๑ As the girl began to speak, Luo's mind began to drift unwillingly as he already began to grow tired of being inside the classroom full of children. He heard everything the girl was saying, despite the few slip-ups she'd had along the way, however it was really all basic information the guards up front more than likely had anyway. Still, he usually had that information before actually meeting a new villager.
Too aloof to call attention back to the girl as she posed questions, Segare stepped in next to him before too much time awkwardly passed between her questions and any answers. As he attempted to turn his full attention on the girl and conversation, he grew somewhat frustrated inwardly. It was sometimes still difficult to control his thoughts or his brain for that matter, especially if he wasn't being stimulated in some way. He still had a bit of a high from the spar with Segare earlier, and going from that to a classroom was making it difficult for Luo's mind to simply slow down. Well, he supposed it was a good thing they would be meditating.
As the girl answered, Luo didn't do much save for stare into her face for a moment, searching for any sign of determination in her features. She was confident, he gave her that. It was enough for Luo, he just hoped come time for her to attend his classes her words still rang true. "Hmph," he finally said as he nodded towards her once and turned and walked towards the front of the class as everyone else seemed to sit at last and Segare clapped to get everyone's attention. Luo always wondered what they did to get the kids to settle down, having heard in the beginning it was a struggle for Segare until apparently a class with Rin. For Luo however, all it took was him "accidentally" continuing his clone training late into the beginning of their classes. It usually was never a good idea to upset a person who didn't seem to have any qualms with killing exact copies of themselves.
As Segare began, Luo could tell the kids reacted well to his enthusiasm ans general positive nature. He tried as much as he could it seemed to make subjects that are tedious in nature somewhat exciting. Arms folded standing on the opposite side of the room from Segare's desk, Luo grinned slightly as Segare mentioned jutsu. It was just like him to goad the children into meditation by prefacing it with the promise of ninjutsu. Luo stifled a laugh as he slowly removed his right hand from its folded position, holding it adjacent to his face. He certainly wasn't lying, he'd definitely love to learn some interesting and cool ninjutsu. He just also knew it wasn't going to happen in that classroom today.

Shikaku's attention was drawn from watching the new girl almost immediately by Michiko dropping down beside him. Normally not such a problem, except she chose the space between him and Kensei, which, widened as it may be, was still not wide enough for an entire person. Luckily, unlike Kensei who now had a student on either side, Shikaku had a corner seat, and at least three feet of open space on his right, which he took full advantage of, immediately sliding his pillow several inches over until there was a comfortable gap once more. He shot a quick glance in Rin's direction, but didn't attempt to move further. Even she was unlikely to get upset with him for being near Michiko when she had initiated the interaction herself, and in the middle of a class. Mere moments later Segare sensei initiated the start of the class, giving a short speech on what they had covered thus far. The man had been hinting for a few weeks that they would start on actually using chakra soon, and it sounded from his words that they would be starting that today. The thought drew a nervous smile to his face, but he didn't raise his hand when prompted. When Michiko's went up, he had already leaned back slightly, letting it fly by his face. He expected that girl would raise her hand at any prompting at all, even without knowing what she might be volunteering for. Kensei's went up shortly after, and Shikaku had to roll his eyes at his whispers. All around the room hands were going up, leaving only a small portion of the class with their hands in their laps. Even Luo sensei had his hand up, but he also caught the man hiding a laugh, and his smile faded, hands nervously clenching the fabric of his shorts. He wasn't ready to learn ninjutsu, and he knew it. They'd learned plenty of chakra theory, and he liked to think he even understood a lot of it. But he'd never actually controlled that chakra. As far as he knew, none of them had. Kensei might have, he was an Uchiha, and who knew what clans taught their kids at his age? He'd think Michiko might have, but her sister seemed adamantly against her even going to classes, so it was unlikely she'd had private training... Even so, his hands stayed down, nervously watching Segare, for the other shoe to drop. There was no way they were going from no chakra training, to "Cool ninjutsu" in a single lesson, so what was he up to? Because the man always seemed to be up to something. ✦ Chakra: [17/17] ✦ Kunai: [2] ✦ Ninja Wire: [20ft] ✦ Razor Wire: [2ft] ✦ Stiletto: [1]

 ▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰
Segare's grin never faltered as he watched the class quickly erupt in a sea of waving hands. Almost everyone in the room had a hand up, including, to his amusement, Luo himself. A select few even had two hands waving in the air. But it wasn't the ones with their hands up that interested him. It was the ones with their hands down. A short list, but most notably, Shikaku and Alise. Alise likely didn't want to make a show of herself so soon after her arrival, or perhaps had passed out from starvation. They'd have to make an exception later and have someone feed her. Shikaku though... He wasn't sure about that kid. From what he'd seen up to now, the kid was bright, if quiet, but lacked almost any physical talent. It was too early to say how he'd do with ninjutsu, but if he couldn't handle that, it was down to genjutsu to keep him in the running to become a genin. A shame too, he knew both Luo and Rin were interested in the kid. Luo because he couldn't figure out how he'd hidden from them so easily, and Rin... Well, who knew why Rin did anything.
Freeing himself from his thoughts, Segare smiled more widely at the class when no more hands went up, taking a mental snapshot of the "Before" before he'd shatter their hopeful illusions. "Wrong!" He suddenly yelled, slapping his raised hand down on the front of his desk. "With the obvious exception of Luo Sensei here, none of you that raised your hands are ready to learn any cool ninjutsu!" He added, giving them a few seconds to let that sink in fully, before smiling again. "But today, we're going to fix that." he grinned widely, waving at Luo to come back to the front of the room as he stepped to the side of the desk.
"Luo Sensei is here today, to help me teach you his favorite technique, the secret to his power, good looks and charm, and the basis of all ninjutsu, and a fair bit of taijutsu as well. Today you will be learning, Meditation." By the time Segare was done talking his grin was painfully wide and he had to force himself not to start laughing. Already he could see the kid's faces turning from joy, to disappointment, to hope at the idea of being as powerful as Luo, and back to horror at the thought of meditation being the way to do it. Ah, it was good to be a teacher some days. After savoring the moment and looks for a moment longer, Segare turned to Luo. "Luo Sensei, would you explain the technique for us?" To be fair he could have done that part himself, but he wasn't kidding when he said meditation wasn't his best skill. He knew about as much as they needed the kids to know, and not much more. Luo, having been raised on the art, would be able to explain it far better than him, and that was why he'd asked him to join them.
▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰❖ Chakra: [72/72]Alright guys, from now on, I'm going to post continuing the lesson every day or two, whether anyone has posted or not. Anyone who hasn't posted during the lesson, preferably practicing whatever has been taught, will be considered to have received all the training necessary to learn the technique, but not have learned it. It will then be up to them to practice and learn the technique on their own time. If they still haven't learned it before the next lesson they attend, they won't be allowed to practice the next jutsu. Additionally, mastery of a certain portion of the techniques taught in these classes will be mandatory for graduation and various other perks during the academy. By this method, I plan to get through the academy smoothly, and at a good pace. Whether you keep up is up to you, but remember, not keeping up will only hold you back from graduating.
Also note that there's no "Insta-learning" in one post. Take your time with it, because the lessons aren't going to be three posts each or something silly. We'll be doing a more in depth lesson system than previously in the guild, to allow for more character development. And if we feel you've learned something too unrealistically fast, we will make something go wrong with it. Fair warning.

Luo Ushio๑Ushio Clanxxxx XXX⊗Weapon Masterxxxx▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁ ๑๑๑๑ It didn't take long for hands to go up around the in quick succession, something that was expected. However, Luo noticed Shikaku and Alise didn't bother to follow the rest of the children so eagerly. As far as Shikaku went, Luo had known since the day he'd met the child he was wary, sometimes cautious to a fault. He wasn't like most kids his age who took what was said at face value. Instead, the boy seemed to always be thinking about what was said, why it was said, and how it was said. Despite his faults mainly in Luo's class, the kid was a critical thinker, something shinobi needed to be able to do on the fly. As for Alise? Luo had no inkling as to why her hand was down apart from perhaps feeling too shy to join in after her little outburst before class started.
Then, Segare had a sort of outburst to get the attention of the children. It was certainly something, and had Luo's mind not been slightly occupied, he might of even shot a glance over in the man's direction in a bit of surprise. Hearing his own name mentioned however, Luo focused on the room around him and what was being said. Looking over towards him, Luo saw Segare motioning for him to come near the front of the room, something Luo had not been looking forward to since he got there. With a patient stride, Luo stopped at one side of the desk, folding his arms once more as Segare explained what was going to happen that day. Granted, Luo found it somewhat amusing the grandiose way in which Segare phrased the benefits of meditation, however the fact remained he'd now have to teach these kids off the training grounds for once.
As he was addressed, Luo turned towards Segare and nodded, turning his attention back to the class. "Segare Sensei has been kind enough to provide you all with seating pillows. Personally, I'd have had you on the bare bamboo, but it's not a big deal." Luo had learned meditation through pain, sitting lotus style on surfaces that simply weren't meant for comfort. His grandfather had explained, that the world itself is pain, and in meditation there is a cure. The man was right too, once Luo had learned to do it properly he didn't feel any discomfort, or really anything at all. It was interesting in those early times.
"The art of meditation is not one any of you or even myself will claim to master for quite some time, and even fewer will actually master it. However, this technique can quite often dictate how well you can use ninjutsu, as well as stay alive. It is essential as a shinobi to have the ability to clear your mind and find what is necessary to complete any task, or surpass any obstacle. On the surface it may seem like simple deep breathing exercises and a futile attempt to 'clear your mind', however you'll find it to be useful in the very near future."
Walking in front of the desk and sitting on the pillow in front of him, Luo's legs folded neatly into the lotus position, adjusting his posture slightly at the realization that this was not his seating pillow. "None of you have to try sitting like this, it comes with practice. For now, continue to sit legs crossed. Hold Tora, the tiger hand seal in front of your chest, with your fingers just in front of your sternum. The object of today, is to tap into your chakra via meditation. As I'm sure you remember from Segare's theory classes, chakra is not only accessed by physical energy, but spiritual energy as well. It is the molding of the physical energy present in every cell of the body, as well as spiritual energy gained from the mind. Only once these two can be molded together can chakra be channeled through the chakra circulatory system, and expelled for use through tenketsu (chakra points). We have worked on physical energy quite a lot, today we work on spiritual."
Taking a moment to allow that bit to sink in, Luo continued. "If you properly attain meditation, your tenketsu will naturally open, forcing the first outpouring of chakra, popping the seal on it if you wanna think of it that way. This in turn will create a chakra aura, something I'm sure you've all heard of as well. Since Segare and myself already can mold chakra however, this natural initial burst of chakra won't occur from us. So, there is no faking this lesson. You either fail, or pass, that's it. Now, you can meditate with your eyes open or closed, I personally have no preference. When breathing in, picture a small flame in your abdomen. Hold the breath for three seconds, and upon exhaling picture the flame expanding throughout the duration of your exhale around your body. Focus on this and this alone, and before you know it that flame will become all you see, all you hear. Imagine the crackling of the flame, growing dim with each inhale, and loud and vibrant with every exhale. For this lesson I'm afraid I will not be taking questions. It is a straight forward lesson, with straight forward results. Do not over think it, just do it."
Luo's last words weren't meant to be harsh, and he hoped the children picked up on what he meant by that. It didn't matter to him however, as he closed his eyes and placed his hands in the tiger hand seal in front of his chest, signifying the lesson had begun. He'd pondered showing the children how a chakra aura looked, since he was well capable of producing one on the spot. However, taking a cue from Segare he wanted the kids to be surprised when they saw them. They lasted for quite a while the first time chakra was accessed, in some cases an our or so. Not only that, but there was a literal 'burst' sound that tended to accompany the feat, a sound that definitely jarred Luo out of a meditative state when he did it. They'd be surprised to learn that chakra auras were as different as people were. It wasn't rare for blood-related individuals to have the same colored aura, but even still there tended to be variation in exact pigment. Some fortune tellers who claimed to be able to see one's chakra aura color said that the color represented the personality of the individual, however that was beyond dis-proven.
▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁ ⊗⊗⊗⊗ (Alright guys, as Hinote mentioned, this isn't a one post deal. I want you guys to have fun with it, play with your RPC's personality and how it would apply to attempting to meditate. Be in depth about the "flame" you guys are supposed to be focusing on, touch on how hard in the beginning it seemed to be to get the picture in your mind of it growing and shrinking. Describe entering a meditative state, the separation from the room and thought and such. Then at some point, go into what happens to the flame when you access your chakra. Does it change color to your chakra color? Does the flame actually feel hot inside you? Does the feeling spread through the chakra channels? Etc. Really get into it.)

Timmy burst into the room as if he had just been chased by a giant racoon, and slammed the door before frantically looking for a place to sit. He doubted that he had been seen, but felt it would be much safer if he were sitting with the rest of the classroom. He had intended to show up on time for class after all, but then he got an idea which needed to happen, and then he made it happen and then he ran to the classtoom. After jumping onto a cushion towards the very front of the room he assumed a very casual sitting position and pretended he had been in the classroom all along. Luo had already begun teaching, "Hold Tora..." Timmy sat cross legged and formed the seal. It looked like they were practicing handseals again, or so he thought, but in time Luos explanation made it clear what was really going on. After listening to the instructions Timmy closed his eyes, and attempted to focus on a flame. After less than a second however Timmy raised his hand, not even waiting for Luo to call on him. (It seemed that most teachers didnt notice when timmy rose his hand. Perhaps it was something to do with him being part ghost?) "This rooms too bright, all i can see are the back of my eyelids!"
((for convenience im just pretending Luo ignored timmy's entrance on purpose, perhaps for a scolding later. Sorry ive been gone, kinda busy))

The girl rose an eyebrow when the man that had greeted her first spoke about training, she was looking for something that would be interesting, at the very least useable, but meditation? What use could she possibly give to that. She couldn’t think anything off the top of her head, probably due to her hunger, but she wouldn’t pay much attention to it, there was something more important that food at hand, at least it seemed so to the people that should be taking care of her, or at the very least looking out for her. She sighed and sat on the pillow that was provided, crossing her legs over it, closing her eyes and taking in a deep breath. She fought every urge she had to talk, but she couldn’t hold it back for much.
“This is stupid…” She muttered under her breath, aligning her arm just as the teacher had instructed, placing her fingers in the tiger sign, pressing them against her chest. She kept her breathing stable, both eyes closed, but eventually she opened her eyes and sighed in frustration, throwing herself back to the ground, her hands behind her head. “Yup… Waste of time…” She grunted in frustration, opening her eyes and staring at the ceiling. She got back up as fast as she could to avoid being scolded by the teachers, although in all honesty she was calling the lesson a waste of time, so it was only normal for her to be scolded. She didn’t have bad intentions or anything, she just didn’t see the point. Back in her sitting position, she placed her hands on her crossed legs and sighed. “This is going to take me a while…”

Sure enough, as soon as it was obvious no more hands were going up, Segare dropped the other shoe, causing all the hands to retreat to their owners in moments. But then the man continued, explaining that they would actually learn to control chakra today, presumably, anyways. The method was described as meditation, something Shikaku had never given much thought, but judging by first Segare and then Luo Sensei's words, meditation was the key to controlling chakra. Thus the groans from several students around the room made little sense to the boy. In his opinion, if something as seemingly simple as meditation could really improve his control over his chakra, it was worth using. Especially if it was how they were being taught to access it in the first place. Thus, when Luo sat and began instructing them, Shikaku reluctantly but immediately mimicked the man's pose, as closely as he could, tucking his feet around his knees and forming the indicated hand seal. Unlike most of the kids, he hadn't sat in a normal cross legged position in the first place, and was a bit uncomfortable with the change. He normally sat with his legs loose, or even under him so he could move at a moments notice. From this position he'd first need to unwrap himself before he could move. But, if it helped him pass this lesson, it was worth the risk. Especially when he knew full well the risk was all in his head anyways. When he was younger he'd gotten caught stealing, right under a shopkeeper's nose, and the city guard had forced the orphanage to make him see a psychologist. After a few sessions, the man had diagnosed him with some mixture of kleptomania and paranoia. An odd mix to be sure, and each probably only made the other worse. Not that knowing about it had helped him solve the problems, just let him know a bit more clearly when he was probably acting on one or the other, such as now, feeling threatened by not being able to flee a classroom quickly enough. Pushing those thoughts aside, Shikaku closed his eyes, trying to focus as Luo had said, on imagining a flame and making it change shape according to his breathing. The flame was easy, he'd seen plenty of flames, but controlling it's shape and removing it from just a memory was more difficult. Just as he started to have some progress though, Timmy started yelling. Shaking his head, Shikaku took a deep breath and refocused, isolating a single curling flame in his mind and filling the rest of his mental vision with a deep black. Soon enough he had the flame moving as directed, but it didn't feel like he was getting anywhere. A loud thump distracted him once more, and he opened his eyes to see the new girl lying on the floor, before getting back up and talking to herself. Sighing, Shikaku rubbed his temples before closing his eyes again and reforming his hand seal, hunching up on himself to try and block out the rest of the room. They were too distracting, and not listening in on them all was going against every instinct he had. It was... Aggravating. ✦ Chakra: [17/17] ✦ Kunai: [2] ✦ Ninja Wire: [20ft] ✦ Razor Wire: [2ft] ✦ Stiletto: [1]

Segare leaned against his desk and simply watched as Luo talked the kids through the process. It was interesting seeing a group of kids slowly shift from their usual rowdy nature into rows of meditative poses, eyes closed and silence dominating the room. Well, until Timmy started yelling, and Alise complaining about the lesson plan. Sighing, Segare leaned back, snagging a seed pod off the desk in his left hand and flicking it into Timmy's open mouth. He wasn't sure what the plant was, but he'd found them in the woods during one of his walks, and discovered that when the seeds were introduced to moisture they turned into a rather potent glue. He'd started bringing them to class just for the purpose of silencing loudmouths who spoke out of turn. They should be plenty to keep the boy's mouth sealed til the end of the lesson. The seeds would dissolve on their own in an hour or so either way.
Pushing away from the desk, Segare started to slowly, quietly, walk between the rows of children, softly speaking as he walked, just barely loud enough to be heard by those actively listening, but not enough to disturb those who were close to a true trance. And those who looked to be simply faking a trance, he gave a quick poke in the cheek, or snapped his fingers in their ears. "If you have a difficult time picturing the fire, try changing to another focus. A light glowing and dimming, water dripping, a blade of grass blown in the wind. Make your focus something you can easily picture. See it, feel it, hear it, smell it, taste it. Allow it to fill your senses and become all you know."
It was probably one of the hardest things Segare had ever done to refrain from expanding on his words with some story or other. His style of teaching had always included stories and explanations to keep the kids interested and listening. But he didn't want them to lock onto him. His words were for those that needed them, and for those that didn't to simply breeze by and hopefully not even hear, were they doing it right. His own meditation focus had been the blade of grass he'd offered as an example. Imagining that it was being blown away on his exhales, and pulled towards him by his inhales had given him a strong focus to cling to, and it hadn't been long before he was able to really feel like he was there with the grass, in his mind. In fact, he'd taken that feeling and slowly expanded his focus, adding more grass, soil, even air, until he found he had actually pushed through into his mindscape.
He didn't expect any of the kids here to achieve that today of course, but that was what the focus served for best in his mind. The fire method was common, and probably how Luo had learned, but hen he'd learned his teacher had told him to choose something close to him, something he could picture easily and feel in his mind. He wasn't sure why he chose what he did, perhaps it was the combination of earth and wind, his own elements, or simply a vague childhood memory. Either way, it worked.
"Relax." He paused next to Shikaku as he started another line of speech, resting his hand gently on the boy's shoulder before moving away again. The boy was obviously tense, several in the room were, and that could only hurt their progress. "Don't get frustrated. Frustration just makes it harder. Be patient, calm, and take your time. It's just like going to sleep, let the world fall away from you. Stop looking around, stop listening to anything, ignore the person next to you, they don't matter, let them cease to exist. See, hear, smell, feel, only your focus. Only what is in your own mind." Continuing his slow walk around the room, Segare went quiet, feeling he had said enough, From now on, he'd merely watch for those who seemed to be struggling, or faking. And even those close to success might find him near, subtly trying to jar them loose from their trance. The key to full meditation was to completely separate yourself from the physical world, so a snap of the fingers or a poke in the cheek should only wake them if they hadn't truly achieved a full trance.

Michiko "Awwww"ed in disappointment with the rest of the class, but she returned to giving her full attention quicker than most. In fact, she even moved from sitting cross-legged to sitting on her knees in order to see the teacher's full body. She remained on her knees until the instructions were finished, and the moment Luo told the entire class to just do meditation, Michiko was more than happy to give it her all.
The energetic blonde dropped from her knees back into a cross-legged position. Although, she didn't settle in the seating position she originally had until trying (and failing) at sitting in Luo's lotus position. Once settled, Michiko closed her eyes and formed the Tora handseal as instructed and did her best to put her entire being, every single drop of effort she could muster, into picturing a small flame in her abdomen when breathing in. As Luo told the class, Michiko held her breath for three seconds, or what she could best approximate was three seconds, and then exhaled. As she exhaled, Michiko imagined the fire spreading throughout her body, filling with vibrant shades of red and orange. On her second inhale and exhale, Michiko added in sound and feel, imagining the crackling of a fire in the woods and the heat of a warm flame in addition to the warm image of fire she had started with. Sure, like Shikaku right next to her, Michiko could hear the thumping of Alise and the shouting of Timmy, but she somehow managed to tune them out. The usually excitable girl even managed to lock Segare out. Don't try to ask her how, Michiko just did.
It seemed that, as usual, Michiko would quickly learn the day's lesson and be able to move on to whatever else she wanted, but then it took too long to learn. The fire Michiko had been vividly imagining became far less interesting than the weird mushroom she had seen the other day and her thoughts shifted accordingly to the mushroom. The trance the girl had been settling into broke. Her hair started to feel quite itchy, and Michiko just had to blow it out of her face. Then, her head felt itchy, so of course the girl had to scratch her hair. Not to mention, prompted Michiko to just outright open her eyes and look around quietly at all the other students as she rolled her shoulders, which were starting to feel a little stiff from staying still for however long Michiko had managed to successfully participate in the exercise.
