The Intermediate trainee winced as Cami fumbled her weapon, and briefly bounced back to give her enough time to retrieve it. She hadn't had to, but she already had an advantage over the magenta haired girl, exploiting openings would have just been over kill.

"Well, a student might, they're not all cautious by nature, and some aren't all that bright." Her grin brightened into something fierce. "But a horseman won't. If you given them even half the chance, they will gladly impale you and delight over your dead body."

With Cami up and on her feet, weapon in hand, Peyton shot forward again, driving a tiny fist in for a kidney shot. In her mind Warrick gave an impatient grumble, irritated that she was sitting on so much collected Fear, and not using it.

It would be over kill. This is a friendly spar, nothing more.

Cami had given up almost entirely on using her bow as it had been intended and, instead, had a better use for it. Not even trying to feint Peyton out she waited until the ombre-haired mini-Sun came rushing at her for another painful shot into the kidneys, one that made her grunt with pain. However she'd braced herself, followed the motion so that her body gave with it, and used her height and weight to her advantage.

Petyon was barely five feet tall and probably didn't weigh much more than a hundred pounds. Cami was more than halfway to six feet tall and had about fifty pounds on the other girl. Throwing her body suddenly into the other girl's she swiped, hard, with the edge of her bow. "So what kind are you today?" Panting, she hit the ground as she overbalanced but was confident she'd actually landed a hit. Scrambling to her feet she tried to get away, get more distance, because it was important damn it!

Cami barreled into her, knocking her off her feet and sending them both rolling, but Peyton didn't stay sown for long. Toes dug into the dirt, spiked knuckles dragging, and she bounced up to her feet again as if she had springs in her ankles.

"Me? I'm neither, though if we're comparing me to one or the other, I can be just as ruthless as the horsemen." They had to be, they couldn't afford to be soft in the face of the enemy. That was how they died. It had been a student that had torn Nevada's throat out, not a horseman, and that just enforced the lesson.

"It might just be a spar, but this is practice for the real thing." Peyton rolled her neck, arms swinging to cross across her own body, stretching out whatever kinks Cami's toss might have given her, then she was off again, rushing forward. This time she sank low just as she reached the other girl, avoiding any swing of that bow, and when she came up she came up fast, driving her fist up and into Cami's body.

She didn't want to hurt the new Sun, but she wanted her to get stronger. She wanted that very much.

Cami wanted to make the point that this was not the real thing though she could appreciate why it was that Peyton was acting as if it were. Still, the fist that drove straight up into her solar plexus robbed the redhead of all her breath, sending her down to her hands and knees to gasp and wheeze dramatically. It was never pleasant to have the wind knocked out of you. When you were aching from several other 'wounds' at the same time? It was utterly defeating. Holding up one hand she could only manage to wheeze out a single word: "Stop!"

Catching her breath a little more slowly she was able to talk more fully. "I surrender. Please tell me the point of this is not to put my parts all over the different sides of the field because I will just lay here and let you finish it." As far as fortitude went well...Camille knew she did not have much. But considering this wasn't a real fight and Peyton wasn't actually out to kill her she felt pretty good with surrender.

To prove her point the redhead flopped onto her back, breathing over and over to fill her lungs and keep her abused system from totally revolting. Kidana was disgusted, of course, because she thought it was better perhaps to die with glory than live with shame. For the most part it was a one-sided debate with herself that the human had no intention of getting herself involved in.

She knew better.

The absolute second Cami threw in the towel Peyton's weapon returned to it's totem form, the twin rings that circled small thumbs. It was just a spar. Yes, it was training, but there was no need to go overboard. As the taller trainee flopped back, Peyton came to sit beside her on the grass. "Goodness no, that would be counter productive."

She could be a competitive thing, in the right situation, but that was not here and now. She smiled down at the magenta haired girl, patting her shoulder. "You did good." Specially given how knew she was. "Did you have any fighting experience before this?"

Kidana was already dormant back in the arrow necklace hidden beneath layers of clothing at Cami's neck as she flopped in the afternoon sunshine. Her superior's comment had her smiling in a big way, still panting while out of breath, stretching and wincing at the pain. "You did better. I don't think I've had bruises like this since..." She thought about it. "Ever. Maybe once." Because she'd fallen down a flight of stairs while trying to slide down a railing that was far too slim for her rather sizable a**.

"I've never been much of a scrapper. I like to smile my way out of confrontation though I did kick this b***h's a** in seventh grade. She was badmouthing my manman and nobody gets to do that." Outloud, anyway. Cami wasn't the thought police she was simply the action police when that action was so abhorrently harmful that someone needed to step in and mention it. Calmly. Until you said it again, to her face, and perhaps needed a black eye.

Laughing slightly, a tinge of embarrassment in it, she shrugged. "Other than that I sparred with another trainee, Hanna, who came out of her pod same time I did. It was pretty bad and I barely won." She grinned. "But I did win. I thought this would be somewhat like that and boy was I wrong. You're impressive." Sitting up on her elbows the smile grew a bit more serious, more thoughtful. "Would you mind helping me out? Teaching me a few things?"

The smile broadened. "I've also been here longer than you, have a closer bond with my weapon, and was fighting long before Deus got to me." It was a learning experience, not a competition, not yet. Later, when Cami had gotten more training, had been with her partner longer, they'd have a more serious duel. Cam just didn't know this yet. "Yeah, you get banged up in spars, but lucky for you, your weapon will heal you up a hell of a lot faster than you would naturally. They should be gone in a few days." Melvin's black eye popped into her mind, and her head tipped, shoulder raising in a half shrug. "Give or take."

The more Camille talked, the more Peyton liked her. She was outgoing, she was wild, she outspoken, but fair. "That's definitely not a bad thing for normal, every day life. Violence is usually a ticket to a dark future." Her own future had been heading down a dangerous path. She knew it. Deus had saved her, even if it had ******** up Astrid's life.

"For a rookie with only one previous fight under your belt, against another rookie, you did damn good." Another shoulder pat. "And of course I'll help. Sun nakama gotta stick together."

If she kept getting this banged up the idea of having daily spars was going to be a bit of a pipe dream more than an actual reality. Somehow she didn't think that having her body covered in bruises was the best way to do things. Every other day, perhaps, she could engage in a spar with someone a bit more on her level? She knew that Peyton was a rank higher than her on the Deus ladder. Sparring with someone who was a full Hunter or worse, the division leads if they even sparred, ugh. That would probably hurt like a b***h!

Picking herself up off the ground she beamed down at Peyton. "I'll grab you again soon so we can work something out that doesn't leave me crawling back to my room every day. As it is, I think I'm due for a very nice, very warm shower and a nap. Or maybe a really big sandwich." It was one of the biggest conundrums was whether or not to sleep or eat, probably the most pressing question in all of humanity. Eat? Sleep? Harass someone on Twitter?

So many options. So little energy left.

Slogging back towards the dorms she turned and called over her shoulder. "Thanks again, Peyton!"
