"I always thought it referred to the valley!" That would explain some things. "Guess I should say I recently moved into this valley." Her tail drooped as the mare politely told her she wasn't interested. Sounded like she already had someone that was an expert on flowers in her family. "Oh, well that's alright." Ruby gently nudged a flower with her hoof. She glanced at the green mare from lowered eyes. Without flowers she wasn't sure what to talk about now. She really needed to stretch her legs more often if she was having this problem!

"Sorry," Tasma apologised. "Poor Caster is only a baby and he can't help it. If I bring different flowers home, he might get even more frustrated."
Tasma looked around at the flowers. "They're pretty, though. So what do you do with yourself?"

She raised her head and took a deep breath. It wasn't fair to blame a foal. "That's alright. Not everyone feels the same about flowers that I do. I need to remember that." Ruby smiled as she saw Tasma was trying to cheer her up. "They are. Well, I run my shop and grow flowers. Beginning to think I need to do more than that. Get out and have some fun. What about you? Have you been in Dream Valley long? I can show you around the town if you'd like."

Tasma smiled, her fangs gleaming. "I have roamed a lot. Before my sister semi-abdicated, I became the unnecessary child and explored everywhere, so I am fairly familiar with Dream Valley, Nightmare Valley, Dragon mountains and the edges of the beyond.
"But what I can say is that if you're after a change of pace, Dream Valley has many nice distractions."

"Would you tell me some of your stories then? I've never been off of the island." Ruby was eager to hear of places and tales of other ponies. Things she could never have imagined, this pony had seen and done. She smiled at the compliment to her home, "thank you."

"Ah..." said Tasma. "I don't really have many stories... I mostly just went out and explored- I didn't save damsels or kill villains. I watched swifts migrate to have their chicks. I watched porpoises and dolphins in the sea. I saw pools of still water in the mountains with gemstones reflected in them and luminous plants- beautiful places, but dangerous. Those places are home to diamond-backed spiders and are deadly to ponies without scales."

Ruby wondered how a pony (dragon?) could travel so much and not have stories. She tilted her head. "It doesn't have to have heroics or villains in it to be a story. Just things you've seen or done." The mare leaned forward eagerly. "All those sound lovely. Well except the spiders. It would have been nice to see the plants." Ruby commented wistfully. All the plants that she'd probably never see. "How do you deal with the spiders?"

"I ignore them," said Tasma. "They are no threat to me. I have a sister who spins poisonous webs, but the poison doesn't get through to my skin."

"Oh," that really wasn't helpful to her. "That's a good thing to have in that case." Ruby wasn't sure what the mare's sister had to do with spiders, though spinning poisonous webs did sound like something a spider would do. Well maybe not the poisonous part, but it was all in the details.

"I'm immune to things like that," explained Tasma. "The skin of normal ponies is very delicate. The spiders venom is powerful, but they are so beautiful as well. They look like they have diamonds on their backs. If you ever go to a cave, take care that the stone you pick up is not a spider. I learned the hard way." Tasma shuddered as she remembered a pretty crystal in her hand suddenly having legs and scuttled up her claw to her face while she screamed and flailed. She wasn't really afraid of spiders... just that particular one.

"I'm glad to hear." Oh how she knew about delicate skins. She remembered one particularly thorny rose bush from when she was a filly. What a tangle it had been! Ruby nodded quickly, "I will." Not that she had many reasons to go into caves, but if she did end up in one she would be wary of pretty stones. "Thanks for the tip."

She smiled. "Not nearly as warm and lush as it is here. Colder. The plants are hearty, but sparse. They have pretty little flowers."
