Roland: He cocked his eyebrow at her. Was she trying to "save" him, then? Another wound for her to try to heal? Will it end the same way as her healing his eyes did? She couldn't erase the mark of blood and darkness from his face, how could she do so from his heart? "You may be sorely disappointed," he said, laughing though inside he feared that very outcome.

Kiyoko: She was in no way trying to save him, but more, change his outlook on the world and, more importantly, himself. She knew that it wasn't possible to completely change someone, but, at most she could try to get him to be a better stallion. At his comment, she gave him a gentle bump with her shoulder. "Don't count it out just yet."

Roland: This time he laughed wholeheartedly. He wasn't mocking her, but simply accepting her optimism as inevitable. After all, neither of them could know the future. There was no point arguing it. Roland doubted he'd ever be the stallion she seemed to see in him, but then again anything in the world was possible - with the right motivation. As they continued walking Roland became aware of a noise- just the rustling of some leaves above - and paused to investigate it. He peered up at the boughs, trying to discern what creature was up there in the failing light. "I think it's just a squirrel," he said absently, staring into the leaves. He realized suddenly that he had instinctively moved to protect Kiyoko, in case it was something dangerous.

Kiyoko: Her ears perked when she heard him laugh. It surprised her, but at the same time, it felt rather nice to hear him give a rather heartfelt laugh. She was going to mention that it would be just small steps at the moment, but when he suddenly moved in front of her when he heard something, she stopped herself and froze. Even if it was just a squirrel, this was the proof she needed that there was something there waiting to come out.

Roland: "Come on, I think there's a river or something up ahead." He moved away from her suddenly, off in the direction he had indicated. He could hear the slight sound of running water and was happy for the distraction. He wasn't embarassed, exactly, that he had made such a move towards Kiyoko. Bernard, his step-father, had always told him since he was young that it was every stallion's duty to protect those he traveled with. Roland hadn't paid much attention to Bernard growing up, however, so it surprised him that such lessons seems to peek through now. He narrowed his eyes as he thought on the only father figure he'd ever had in his life. What a bumbling oaf. How could Roland have learned anything from such a pathetic creature?

Kiyoko: She watched as she suddenly walked off as he mentioned a river. She tilted her head, but soon just giggled and trotted after him, once again, soon catching up to walk beside him. That's when she noticed the look on his face. "Are you alright?"

Roland: He'd almost forgotten she was there and looked at her with surprise, quickly masking it with irritation. "Yes I'm fine. Hurry up." He shook his head, clearing his thoughts. He felt a pang of regret at the sharp tone in his voice as he addressed her and added more gently "I see the river through the trees." Indeed the river was only a short distance ahead, and breaking through the trees revealed not only that, but a short waterfall and a pool beneath it, surrounded by a clearing lush with soft grass. The moon had risen and glistened off the gently lapping pool, the stars reflecting like little diamonds in the water.

Kiyoko: She went quiet when he replied to her. Though it was obvious something was bothering him, she wasn't going to press on the matter... at least, not yet. Perhaps give him some time to clear it over with himself first, then he would be more willing to talk about it. Following him through the trees, her eyes widened in awe when they reached the opening of the trees to the river at the scenery. "Wow... how beautiful."

Roland: He couldn't help but be taken aback by the scene. It really was breathtaking. He so rarely took the time to really look at the world around him - he was always so busy causing trouble and acting out. He moved slowly, looking around and taking it all in as he moved towards the water. "I've never seen anything like this. It seems... untouched." His voice was low, almost reverent in the quiet night. He turned to Kiyoko, a wide grin on his face. "This is our place now. Our secret place."
