It turned out to be a good thing that she'd stayed close to the walls. A brave blue buzzed his audience. He landed right in the middle and started slurping someone's face. Ewwwww. Kia thought for a moment the unfortunate person was his rider. A familiar voice distracted her from the overly exuberant blue.

"If I had two marks, I'd accept. Instead, if he doesn't then how about you get me out of chores for a day and get me something taste from the rider's dinner table? If he does, then I'll do a chore for you," she gave a toothy grin at L'ris, only she was too late. Someone else had spoken up to take the bet first. "Pah."

C'tis looked at the drudge, and then he looked at L'ris. He jerked a thumb at the former. "She the one you brought in a while ago? Presumptuous, isn't she?" he asked, casually ignoring the child herself - she was a drudge after all.

Having spoken to his equal he turned to the serving child, tucked his thumbs into his belt, and smiled... Well, he showed his teeth at any rate. One of them was gold.

"That doesn't sound like an especially even bet to me, girl," he observed lazily. "A whole day off for you, and tasty treats, and as your stake you offer L'ris your services for one chore? How about you and I make a bet together instead? You pick something to bet on and if I decide to take it these can be the stakes: if you win I'll get you a meal of your choice to eat from the riders' table on one day within the next month, but if I win you have to... oh, let's see...." The evil wheels turned almost visibly behind the riders' dark eyes. After only a moment the process completed and C'tis' grin became a smirk. "You have to skip cheerfully everywhere you go for a full afternoon as you go about your business on a day of my choice within the next month, and greet everyone you meet that afternoon with 'tra-la-la, it's a beautiful day to be alive isn't it sir-slash-madame?'. What do you say, game for that?"

If it had been anyone else but L'ris making that bet, she wouldn't have spoken up. As it was, another rider nearby heard her. Kialynka lifted her chin as he commented about her. Too bad if he didn't like it! L'ris had made an offer for a bet after all. She was looking right at the man when he showed his teeth. The obvious gold tooth nearly made her gauf out loud. Gold was for spending, not wearing. Crazy rider. If he'd shown up like that amid the bandits, they'd of been all over him for it. Really a toss up who would have won.

She glanced toward the baby dragons, to be sure none had decided to crash in on their group, before she replied. "If I had specified what chore I'd do, then I'd have considered it unfair. Since I didn't, then she could ask me to do any chore." With an undefined bet, you bet she was going to get all she could. Kia eyeballed this rider. Make a bet with him instead? And he was going to let her pick what to bet on? Interesting.

She laughed. "Four hours, not a full afternoon, and you'd better include desert. One meal, even a rider's isn't worth a whole afternoon of that stuff." Kia gave him a toothy grin back. Now what to bet on? She watched the dragons still waiting to go and pursed her lips. Ah that might work.

“Not to mention” L’ris commented, having been following the conversation with some amusement, “If I - or he - wanted your services to do chores for us, we could simply instruct you”

She almost reached out to put a hand on C’tis' shoulder, as a warning, before changing her mind at the last second to place it on her hip instead. She trusted him to behave properly - or at least, not to take too much of an advantage.

Rensoua patted Aldrey's shoulder a little more gently, the stuttering maybe cueing her into the fact that it was a little less funny to the other weyrling.

“He’ll get the hang of it - and if he doesn’t, you could always pretend he’s just a really big wher. I wouldn’t worry"

Very mouthy for a drudge. It was strange and vaguely amusing, like getting backchat from a newborn lamb. Hehe, she probably thought she was baaaa-dass. C'tis smirked over at L'ris, his brows raised in exaggerated surprise. "Shards, you're right L'ris! Little known fact though, that drudges do as they're told, so I suppose we shouldn't be surprised she didn't know! Rare and mystical knowledge, the province of Masterharpers indeed.

"As for you," he looked back at the drudge child and shook his head, "no dessert, I don't get a dessert every day. If you want something sweet you'll have to con somebody who eats from the high table, or one of the Masters. There's one over there if you want to try it on." This last was said with a jerk of his head towards the white haired man now standing with one of the brown weyrlings; C'tis vaguely remembered being sewn up by the man a few times, sewn up and lectured.

"The four hours though? I'll accept that," C'tis continued, "but this is all if - if I decide to take you up on your chosen bet. I'm hardly going to agree if it's obvious to me that I'd lose, see that's the whole point of a bet - though you might not know this - people wager on things they think might actually happen. Shocking, I know."

She glanced back to L'ris. "I'dave offered to do some hunting for my side of the bet if ya'd let me." Which she really would have preferred to do. They had tons of drudges here to clean or whatever, and many probably better at it than her. Kialynka quirked an eyebrow. Uppity riders. She might have taken on the name, clothing, and duties of a drudge, but Kia in no way considered herself one of them.

The teen glanced toward the indicated master with only half interest. She had no real interest in him. Now for the bet. Her mind worked furiously. She must be getting out of practice if she had to think about a wager. "Alright, I say at least three more dragons will try to fly into the crowd or land in a bush." Since they were out watching the dragons, might as well bet on them.
