On time is late.

Early is on time.

The words echoed through the unicorn's mind as he paced back and forth, noting that there were no other ponies to be seen around him. He knew he hadn't missed the event, because the letter clearly stated that he was an hour early! He was just going to have to wait for the others to arrive, like any respectable pony would. But it was so terribly boring to just sit here, there was inspiration! No pizzazz! There was simply barren emptiness. Perhaps he'd get himself a cider hot chocolate while he waited for the public address, it couldn't hurt right?

----

He arrived back just in time for the address it seemed. But to his misfortune not a decent spot remained. Instead he was forced to stand near the back, his nervous disposition setting him at unease. Peaking his head over one pony's shoulder and then another's. He could hear the conversation quite well, but when the new princesses came forward to speak. He had not a sight of them, nor the jewels of which they spoke of. But he decided to pay them a visit anyway. If for nothing else, but to get some insight into their far away world! It was most definitely worth the time, if only to get some inspiration for a land far from his own grasp.

---

As Cinema Ticket stepped forward, introducing himself to the princesses he felt a slight pull towards one in particular. It was the yellow princess ... Jin he believed he had heard was her name. But why was he feeling so drawn to her?

"F-f-forgive me for intr-tr-truding upon your m-m-meeting your h-high-n-nesses but I had hoped t-t-to ask for a bit of y-y-your time." He paused for a moment, his usual nervous expression forming into a frown. "B-but now, I-I-I think t-t-there mi-might be s-s-something more p-pressing to attend to." Turning his attention towards the yellow princess he bent himself into a bow to her. "For-forgive my forwardn-ness b-b-but I t-t-think something is drawing m-m-me to you my lady."

Cobalt Lightning
"Magistrate Immune, Equestrian Royal Court, at your service."

Current Location: Canterlot Palace Library
Current Company: The Sister of the Sun
Oh, Our Cookies: Finally a post for the evening. I hope I don't need to play around with baddy for a little bit x.x imo, should be Ibexian Empire, Ma Dynasty, but again imo :v

"Ah, right, the Ibexian Royal Sisters. Pro'ly shoulda guessed it was 'official business' that would have you find me" Cobalt Lightning replied melodramatically. "Almost forgot they were visiting, honestly, been busy trying to dig up my ancestor's paths." From that, the mage went into a deep though, but dismissed what was gained with a blink and a huff.

"Ahem, right, mission stuff. I shall accept and fulfill the task with honor, your highness" Cobalt Lightning answered formally, with a brief bow of his head before he began to leave the library, half-expecting the princess to follow. "But, I must ask, Friends? Isn't that what you told your favourite pet a few years back?" he asked with only a slight hint of jealousy. "Y'know, the one where HER friends became the newer members of earned royalty? Ooh, speaking of which, I kind of need your permission to further study the Elements of Harmony, and no I don't plan to use them: I have a theory that would prevent that anyway, if I could prove it. So far, I dare not even glance until I get the consent of the bearers as well as yourself."

The purple Pegasus gave his name first, and Yu nodded very slightly in approval. "Shadow Fire, do you accept this stone and the quest that goes with it?" she asked seriously as her horns began to glow, the pale green magic lifting the amber stone from around her neck. It hovered before Shadow Fire, waiting for him to step forward and take it.

"Understand that accepting this means you will aid the Ma Empire whenever these stones are needed," she went on, a serious expression on her face and a firm tone to her voice, unlike her sister's soft smile and words. "There will be danger and no guarantee of your complete safety. Do not take this burden with a light heart."

Jin's comment made her nod, though, and she motioned to the young filly and the dragon by Shadow Fire's side. "They are welcome to come with you if they are in your care. As my sister said, they may not join you on your quest, but they will be taken care of in your absence."

Inkbrand was vaguely aware that he was gawping in a rather stupid manner at the princess, and not even because of lust-filled imaginations that usually had him gawping at a mare.

Oh sure, he'd done a double-take when he'd suddenly caught sight of another grey Earth Pony ambling up towards the throne room, now standing a bit of a ways away from him. Partly because she was cute - not a mare he'd call a smoking hottie, but for some reason the image of a small Faepony flitting about a forest like a sprite stuck to his mind - partly because she was a she. Mostly though, it was because of the leaves and twigs seemingly embedded in her mane and tail that were as long as an entire pony, by themselves.

But no, it wasn't the presence of a cute mare that had him gawping like a newborn filly. It was the stones around the green princess' neck that had suddenly started to glow, that had captured the stallion's attention.

It wasn't really the fact that two of the stones were now glowing that was bothering him - after all, unicorns used magic all the time, it was simply one of those things an Earth Pony got used to. How many times had that one bumbling stuck-up Unicorn turned Alicorn, Twinkle Sparkle or something, caused mass destruction and chaos in Ponyville? And Inkbrand didn't even need a moment to remember those socialite bitches in Manehatten, turning their noses and horns up whenever they used just a hint of magic. As if to show how much more intelligent or worthwhile they were than the Earth Ponies slumming around at the clubs, bah!

…But still.

Still. There was something about the warm, inviting glow of the stones that had Inkbrand irrevocably moving forward outside of his own accord, eyes once again latched onto the blue one. A sapphire, he was certain. So taken in by the dual shade of RS's eyes that he almost missed the question thrown at him, causing him to falter back a pace as if he'd been physically assaulted.

"Er - Ink. I mean, it's Inkbrand," he amended, and mentally slapped himself for the fragmented sentence. What the buck was wrong with him? Sure they were royalty, and it wasn't like he was feeling shy or anything, because buck, he was never shy. Inkbrand had to simply assume it was the throne room. It was easier to see Celestia or Luna as one of the 'common' folk when they were milling around Ponyville, but surrounded by these marble walls and pillars and feeling distinctly out of place, Inkbrand would be surprised if anypony could really behave themselves for their first visit to royalty.

…Like bucking that guy.

Even if he had wanted to, Inkbrand couldn't hold in the short bark of laughter that escaped his lips as a new stallion stepped forward, looking and sounding like he was about to piss himself. Though, maybe he just had a speaking disorder? He seemed stable enough as he bowed low to the golden princess. Inkbrand couldn't remember seeing him around anywhere - and he was fairly sure he would have remembered anypony with bucking film strips threaded throughout his tail - but that wasn't to say he wasn't from around here. After all, Inkbrand spent most of his time in Ponyville and Manehatten, anyways.

The grey Earth Pony's attention was once again stolen, however, when the green princess suddenly spoke up again, talking to Shadow Fire. And, 'bucking buck buck,' there she was, talking straight out of a cheesy fantasy film. Dangerous quest, noble heroics, no guarantee of safety. How had he guessed it? Inkbrand let out a soft snort, more than happy to step out of the way - before he realized that yes, it was Shadow Fire she was talking to, and yes, it was Shadow Fire that she was asking to risk life and limb for in some inane quest to help a kingdom that wasn't even theirs.

"What the buck are - er," he caught himself, with a furtive glance towards the two princesses, "I mean. Shadow, man, this is crazy. You're just going to up and leave and get yourself killed?"

Currently : Protesting, because of course bucking Shadow Fire is going to say bucking yes.
Feeling : Alarmed, but still somewhat curious.
Located : Castle throne room, with Shadow Fire and various other ponies.

[[ OOC : Yeah. It wouldn't be in-character of Inkbrand to voluntarily volunteer himself and potentially his life to help out people he doesn't have a personal relationship with. xD; So I'm not sure how this is going to work. Maybe if he gets in a trance similar to Shadow Fire, and agree to help out without even realizing it?... ]]

shadow turned to inkbrand. "are you kidding, I don't plan on dying, besides if some pony doesn't stop this darkness here, and now, it would surely come to equestria once its done with them." shadow said to inkbrand. turning he stepped forward. " I made my mind up before I even got here, it seams, the amber called to me, and I would be a fool not to answer it." he said lifting his hoof to grab the amber, which glowed even brighter when he touched it, nearly blinding everypony in the room ( ill let you decide if the amber is formed into a piece of jewelry, like a bracelet or something)

((Maybe I can help with that...? XD Or try, in any case...))

Frolic watched other ponies go up to the princesses curiously, her ears perked as she listened to their conversations. Still not much word about what those gemstones were for or what they did other than glow. Perhaps that was all that was needed to detect one who was to be chosen.

She mused at how the blue unicorn, whose name seemed to be Kori, asked Princess Yu if Asch could accompany him. Another shy unicorn seemed to want to speak with Princess Jin, but at the time, the gold kirin was discussing with Shadow Fire the dangers of bringing his little sister and dragon friend along. Forest continued to observe and listen passively before realizing that she was suddenly being addressed by the fatigued royal twin.

"O-oh, me? I beg your pardon," Forest said quickly, bowing down on one foreleg. "Pearl...?" The stone she had been drawn to! "My name is Forest Frolic, Your Majesty. Um...may I ask what...these stones...might represent...?" She accepted the pearl as it was offered to her, astonished at receiving such a gift and wondering if she really had any right to keep it. It would have been rude to refuse, though, especially if it was from a princess. Perhaps it was just for borrowing or safe-keeping? In which case she would take care of it with all her might.

"Th-thank you, Your Grace. But what should I...? Does this mean...?" Surely she couldn't be one of the chosen ones?! Well...at least it would have saved her the task of asking if she could accompany the group or help in any way. Still, to be chosen! How exciting! The question remained, however...why?

Glancing around at the others who the stones seemed to glow for, Forest couldn't really find very many similarities between herself and them. She stepped aside to allow the stammering unicorn to address Princess Jin in her place as she studied her potential companions. Shadow Fire she knew...Kori she didn't...the gray-maned unicorn she didn't...and maybe that blue-maned tattooed pony beside Shadow Fire...huh. Two unicorns, a pegasus, and including her, two earth ponies... Other than Forest and the princesses, they all had one thing in common - they were all guys.

Wh-what?! No, there has to be some mistake! she thought frantically, her face flushing deeply. I-I can't do this! They're all...so...so... Backing up in her panic, Forest bumped into someone; someone who she was only vaguely aware had introduced himself as Inkbrand only moments earlier.

"Oops! I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to -" But she stopped mid-apology. Inkbrand was laughing. Laughing at what? Her? Following his gaze, she noticed it was the timid, stuttering unicorn she had stepped aside for. Suddenly, her grass green eyes narrowed. "Excuse me," she told him, taking a more assertive stance. "but I know you're not laughing at that unicorn's speech. Nopony would be rude enough to do that, especially not in the presence of our royal guests."

Frowning at his words to Shadow Fire, she tilted her head at the male earth pony. "What's the matter? Don't tell me you're afraid, Inkbrand," she said. "Where's your sense of adventure? And here I was thinking you must have been some tough, brave stallion decorated with all those tattoos and trinkets." She lifted his dog tags to look at them. "Seems like it was all just for show."

Mystic Copycat

Copycat was walking through the streets of Canterlot when he came across the crowd that assembled inside the castle and near the two foreign princesses. Upon hearing them and of their empire and personal plights, he felt for the two. Curses were nothing to sneeze at and Copycat knew this from personal experience. He heard something speaking to him, almost in a whisper. He knew this voice and sighed in annoyance as the voice spoke to him. 'Are you really such a sentimental pony that any sob story will send you into disarray?' Copycat shook his head and turned to speak into his shoulder, as if the voice was coming from there. "Sentiment is not a weakness and I don't see why you have to get involved with every little problem I come across!" he said to the voice in a harsh whisper. "Perhaps you need to learn to be more compassionate." he whispered again as he turned to see some ponies looking his way. This wasn't an uncommon thing for him, to speak to the disembodied voice that had been plaguing him for centuries and see turned heads in confusion. 'You are above these other ponies. You are as immortal as the princesses that rule this land, why do you lower yourself like this?' the voice said to him in a confused manner. Copycat's eyes fell to the floor as his expression became saddened. "I'm not above them, I am nopony special, just another pony with an unfortunate fate" he said in a heavy sigh, perhaps louder then he intended. The moment the princesses speech was over, he looked back up and noticed the diamond around one of the princesses necks. He couldn't quite tell why, but something within him wanted him to approach the princess. As if something, other then the voice he was already accustomed to knowing was speaking to him, drawing him towards it.

The tan-colored pegasus watched as the crowd dispersed and, ignoring the voice, walked towards the two strange-looking princesses. As he walked towards them, he felt more drawn to the diamond around Princess Yu's neck. He bowed to the princess in a formal manner before speaking, "Greetings and salutations, I am Mystic Copycat. I'm saddened to hear of your sister's nightmares and wish to know if a pony, such as myself, can lend any assistance?" He spoke with a humbled tone as the pegasus gave the foreign princess a rather goofy smile. He then, once again, heard that familiar voice that only ever spoke to him. 'Talk about a cheesy introduction. You could have at least sounded like you are of equal level to her. I mean yo-' Copycat tired his best to keep the smile going as he whispered to the voice again, "Shut up, your ruining the moment." He was feeling a need to ask the princess something else, but resisted to do so as he didn't want to make himself look any worse.

[OOC: Sorry it took me so long. I've been busy this week with getting ready for an anime convention. I know I made Copycat seem like a guy that just says or asks what's on his mind, but I figured that it'd be shown more over time rather then in one post. Anyway, hope this was a good enough introduction to him and I hope we'll have some fun.]

Celestia waited, nothing but amused at Cobalts demeanor towards their guests... So long as Cobalt agreed, which he did, and respect the princesses' requests of him there was no problem. "I'm sure your ancestors will still be precisely where they are when you return."

She gave a gracious nod of her head as Cobalt accepted in turn, a nice formal manner. Yet a laugh came as the unicorn complained about her pupil's position. The tinge of jealousy was rather endearing, "Twilight has learned all she can from me." she noted softly, "But it is a lesson many have yet to learn, and something I require of all of my up and coming students." She both implied that yes, it was indeed the very lesson she had given her 'pet', but now her attention was on other students.

Each of them needed to be kept on a steady path of growth and knowledge, and it amused her just how many brilliant unicorns in her gifted school could forget the importance of a few key qualities. Balance, that was the theme of all of this, wasn't it?

"Oh, you didn't hear?" She chimed, baiting the student's curiosity as she turned to start walking back down the hall. "The Princesses have come bearing entirely new elements, similar to those of harmony. Nopony has had any chance to study them or their effects yet. But you wouldn't be interested in that would you-- I can assign you a task under Twilight's supervision to keep looking at the elements of harmony if you like?"

Her tone was quite serious, but her back was now turned, allowing her to hide the knowing grin on her lips. If she knew Cobalt at all he would have rather crawled out of his skin than be Twilight's aid let alone her assistant, and with all his curiosity about the elements of harmony, it only made sense that these new elements might pique anypony's curiosity, especially her knowledge-hungry disciples.

Asch and Kori, Forest Frolic...she smiled fondly at the sound of those names. Their heroes... her heroes. She couldn't help but feel a personal connection to their current situation, her people weren't just suffering because of a great evil brewing over head, they were suffering because she couldn't fight past it. Luna had offered her a somewhat stoic expression of empathy over the lingering shadows and guilt, before yelling something about the peasantry and how the tea they brought was pleasing to her tongue. Jin assumed the outburst was out of some semblance of emotional discomfort, it wasn't hard to tell that Luna had some difficulty reaching out.

The golden princess nodded as Frolic regarded the pearl. "Of course..." she added, as these ponies were more than welcome to ask her anything. Surely so many questions would arise for each of them... she wanted them to feel comfortable, after all, she was in their debt. Though her manner grew a little more reserved, somewhat shy, as her sister wove her words into beautiful proclamations. They were strong, bold statements. Much more assuring than the half-hearted mutters she had offered.

Jin's tired expression returned for a moment, glancing towards her sister-- the sudden buzz of energy was quickly fading, and her eyes stung as they begged her to go back to sleep. Yet, even here, so far away from her home lands her dreams had remained tainted by those unexplained forces.

Trying to shake it she drew her gaze from Forest Froic for a moment to address the next pony that approached. She regarded the broken words and stutter with a caring smile, allowing him the time to speak what he wished to say. She spoke with all manner of kirin within her kingdom. Young to old, she often enjoyed the ramblings of the elders and the sometimes broken wisdom of the children. A small stammer was nothing of concern!

She gave a polite bow of her head in return to his own, though Celestia had reminder her once or twice that the citizens of Equestria might be confused by her returned bows it was too ingrained in her body to avoid.

"Yes..." She smiled wider, giving an endearing glance over the ponies before her. All three of her stones were now glowing, and though these pony's quest was only just beginning, it was finally the long sought after end to her and her twin sister's. "The last element..." Her horns glowed one final time as the orb of cats eye floated towards Cinema Ticket. "Your name?" she inquired curiously, though her tone was quite gentle.

Cinema Ticket, Forest Froic, Kori (and Asch), Shadow fire... and Inkbrand. Only one remained to be found, and her hopes were now high that the next would appear soon. Finally she addressed all who would listen, "The pearl, Forest," she finally answered her, assuming it would be a question everyone wanted to answer. "All of the stones we carry... the Sapphire, the pearl, cats eye, diamond, amber and coral...They are no ordinary gems. These are the Elements of Balance."

"Princess Celestia had informed us that many in her kingdom are familiar with the elements of harmony... ours are similar. These stones possess a magic even we do not understand. In our kingdom... they laid dormant, replying to nopony. But here... you all, you have awoken them. I know not what they do in any manner of detail... but if you listen, I'm sure they will speak to you." Not in words, but in heart. Jin could see it in their eyes, each pony's gaze drawn to their own precious stone. "They will bring out your inner strengths... Your fates are intertwined, so you must rely on one another." Her worry rose a little as she overheard the soft chuckle from Inkbrand and the interjection by Frolic. It seemed they were already... mn... getting to know one another.

She held her breath as the final pony suddenly approached, her eyes wandering towards her sister as the final glow appeared. Thank the gods...

That's always a tricky part xD don't worry though we'll guide the RP long enough to get him to be interested. I'm sure there's some internal, magical tug from the gem too. Jin would feel bad to force someone but I imagine Yu will drag him back by his tail if she had to.

A necklace or a bracelet, your choice. Probably a necklace though since that tends to be the typical theme for elements.

((So originally they respond in relation to the use of one's element, but for convenience sake feel free to make them into necklaces already so that you can carry them. You can each discover what they "mean" IC wise as you progress through the plot~

Now that everypony is here we (lutz and I) be guiding it towards leaving and moving forward, but this is matched at your (the rolplayer)'s pace so we'll linger and answer all the questions your pony could possibly have and potentially coltnap inkbrand.))

Yu waited for the Earth Pony to speak before bowing her head just a bit in recognition. Inkbrand and Shadow Fire...two of the three she was searching for. Hopefully the final pony would show up and claim the last stone around her neck. Inkbrand didn't seem completely convinced, however, as he protested Shadow Fire's decision. Green eyes narrowed as Yu's magic ceased, letting Shadow hold the gem on his own. As the stone worked its own magic, she turned her attention to Inkbrand.

"Death is a bit extreme, Inkbrand, but he is a grown stallion and can make his own decisions. Perhaps you would like to accompany him to ensure his safety?" She arched a brow as the sapphire around her neck burned brighter as if to draw Inkbrand in further. She knew there were only so many words one could say to a pony, but the gem had a language all its own that spoke directly to the souls of those that would be able to wield its power.

Letting the stone work its magic, she fixed her gaze on the final pony to come forward. As he did so, the diamond began to glow and relief washed over her. The stones had all found their ponies, and for the most part all seemed to be willing to help. Inkbrand might need some convincing, but she would worry about him after greeting this final pony.

"Your assistance is appreciated, Mystic Copycat," she said, the stern tone she'd used with Inkbrand gone, replaced by the formal but thankful voice she'd been using before. "It does seem you will be able to help us. Having just arrived, I'd like to remind you that accepting the stone that has called to you comes with danger and uncertainty. Your fellow ponies will be there to help you, and you them, but the danger you face is unknown and powerful."

She lifted the diamond off her neck with her magic once more, the bright, white light shining through the glow of the sapphire as it was moved about. She held it before Mystic, letting him decide if he wished to take it or not. The lone gem on her chest turned her jade scales an aqua color with its blue light, still calling to Inkbrand.

Asch looked around at some of the others surprised to see many familiar faces... Shadow fire... Inkbrand... "This is odd..." He mutters, -I've met them a few of them before....-
As the Princess hands Kori the Coral stone he watches in awe as it changes. Kori smiles and looks around, "What can I...?" He ponders one how to carry it.

Asch smiles and takes off one of his bracelets, "Here... feed this through it and ware it that way!"

"Thanks," He blushes and takes the bracelet and carefully fits the stone on it, looking at it shimmer, "It's perfect"

shadow wasent expecting it to glow that bright, and was momentarily blinded. after he recovered he had noticed that the amber was not in his hoof, but around his neck, hanging from a pendent that he had made last week, or something similar. shocked he lifted the gem and looked at it, feeling the magic pulse with his heart, it was as if it was connected with him. turning to light fire and Draco he smiled. "so what do you think?" shadow asked. light fire raised an eye brow. "just don't get hurt, your the only family I have." light said, showing great concern for shadow. Draco looked him over, placing a claw on his chin. "I got to say Shadow, it does make you look rather dashing." Draco said surprised how well the amber went with his fur.

Mystic Copycat

The tan pegasus looked at the gem as his smile went away quickly. This was not because he was uncertain, but was actually rather intrigued. Holding out one of his wings, he gently took the diamond that was presented to him. 'Hmm.. This looks a little like the Time Gem. Maybe this place will have the answers that I need!' his thought to himself happily. He looked back up at the princess and gave her another bow. "I will happily help you, your sister and your kingdom with whatever I can. I hope that a mere pony like myself will be able to assist." the pegasus said to her with a soft smile. 'There you go again, downgrading yourself to a "mere pony", when you know that your more then capable.' the voice whisper in his head as he began to walk towards the other ponies that were gathered around the other princess. "I told you a hundred times, I'm nopony special! I am just a mere pony" he harshly whispered back in an almost hostile tone. This wouldn't be the first time Copycat had an argument with the disembodied voice of the Time Gem and it certainly won't be the last.

The scholar looked at the gem in his wing and saw that it had a soft glow to it, one that was warm and inviting. 'Another powerful artifact is now in your possession! You know..' Copycat mentally stopped the voice right in it's tracks as he said, rather unintentional loudly, "Ugh! I told you to stop thinking that I'm going to abuse everything and everyone I come into contact with! You'd think after five hundred years of knowing me, you'd know that." he spoke with a harsh tone and accidentally forgot to whisper as he spoke. He notice the volume of his voice and recoiled back slightly, hoping no one thought it was directed at them or even heard it to begin with.

Cobalt Lightning
"Magistrate Immune, Equestrian Royal Court, at your service."

Current Location: Canterlot Palace Library
Current Company: The Sister of the Sun
Oh, Our Cookies: Oi, Hollow, maybe have Draco stay with Little Light at wherever she's staying at?

"Come on, everyone knows you and Luna are the only ageless beings in the world. Which neither of you look a day over 300" Cobalt replied with a hint of hurriedness in the second statement. "And I know you were close to my ancestor. Unless he's a diety as well, I'm pretty damn sure Starswirl's gone." Again, Cobalt spoke as if he was talking with an old friend.knowing well that he could receive consequences for his crude language and demeanor. Upon hearing of the jewelery the Kirin Sisters brought, however, his mind quickly riddled with more questions. "More artifacts... Yes, I would be, but again I'm more interested in our own for personal reasons I am not going to share, I'm sorry. If I can prove that no one but the six they're assigned to can use them, that's that, no more studying those, onto next project, but on the farfetched chance I can use one, and an even more elaborate prediction of which, that would easily warrant new study. Alone, they're little more than simple engems, giving no advantage over the average magi, but I DO know that they're a synergy set, meaning that two of them used in unison would double the power of both, three tripple the power of each, and so on, with all six easily rivaling the theoretical power of the Megan used to destroy Tambelon millennia ago. I'm... sorry, I tend to ramble on" the orange mage apologized as Celestia was now ahead of him, figuring it because of his rambling. so he sped himself up to get by her side again. "Per chance, did you receive the letter where I requested assistance for the LWC's third expedition? And the request for another study session with Twilight? It's actually kinda fun with her: She learned more about Ley as well as my advancement with it, and in turn she shared that knowledge about the E.O.H." By now, though, the pair was easily within sight of Yu and Jin, as well as the group of six they were gathering. Out of all of them, though, the only one Cobalt Recognized was Shadow Fire, in which he gave an upward head-nod in greeting.

"Bucking sounds like a death isn't so extreme to me," Inkbrand muttered under his breath, once the jade princess had her head safely turned away towards another pony. He wasn't sure anypony had heard him, but it didn't really matter at this point, because it seemed that no matter what, Shadow Fire was going for it. Inkbrand could only watch with a helpless little sneer as he was abruptly reminded why Ponyville was a terrible place to make friends.

'Wicked Rhythm wouldn't have put up with this s**t,' he thought rather morosely, resisting the urge to stamp a hoof against the ground like a little foal. 'she and I would've been out of here like that, laughing at all these stupids sons of bitches ready to romp off to play the hero. They're just bucking gems anyways, what's so…special 'bout...'

Inkbrand thought some pony was talking to him, but he was too busy staring at the sapphire gem now glowing even brighter than before, seeming to fill up the entire room in its shimmering light. Tendrils seemed to extend forward into an open embrace, waiting for some pony - for him to step forward. And to Inkbrand's chagrin, he felt one hoof move forward on its own accord, even as his eyes remained fixed on that warm, blue light. Buck off!' he wanted to scream at it, but found himself speechless for perhaps the fifth time in his entire life. It was all he could do to simply wrench his gaze away, the light once again fading to something more manageable and not all-encompassing.

It was enough for Inkbrand to finally understand that yes, there was some pony talking to him - and being a pompous self-righteous b***h while she was at it.

Inkbrand whipped his head around towards the grey Earth Pony he had spotted earlier, apparently another one of the "Chosen Ones" - and buck, he could literally hear the capitalized letters, and if that didn't make him want to burst out into slightly hysterical laughter. But it wasn't the jewel, gem, whatever she was getting that had grabbed his attention. No, it was her bucking conceited tone of voice that had Inkbrand's upper lip curling in an almost relieved manner.

Quest, heroes, fairy tales…those were all way out of his league. But a stuck-up b***h imposing her views of right and wrong into his business? Inkbrand already felt back in his element.

"Excuse me," he responded, snidely mimicking the same tone of voice he'd heard in the grey Earth Pony, "but you think you can tone down the conceitedness? I don't think anypony can hear anything over the sound of you out-stallioning him. Though," he added with an obvious leer of his eyes over her body, "you can feel free to climb onto this this stallion anytime you'd like, baby." Seriously. If the…Cinema Ticket, he'd thought he'd heard…other pony had a problem with it, he could face up to Inkbrand like a real stallion. Leave it to a mare to come running to somepony's defense without even giving him a chance to bucking stand up for himself.

But she wasn't done yet, apparently. Inkbrand felt his eyes narrow as real annoyance swept over him at her words, wrenching his neck back to slip his dog tags out of her hold. Why the buck did everypony take bucking common sense and realism for cowardice? Just like bucking Radiant Star, that day way back when on Nightmare Night! Well, he remembered how well that night had turned out, traipsing a haunted castle and repeatedly getting his a** kicked, simply because of a dare. He wasn't going to fall for it now, no sir. He was smarter, wiser, above the petty taunts and stallioneqsue urge to pound on his chest like a cavepony and -

"Bucking give it!" Inkbrand snarled, marching straight up to the jade princess. "E-Er…please, your ladyship," the stallion was quick to amend, the force of her stare once again reminding him that she could probably disintegrate him with her eyes as easily as she poured orange juice for her breakfast. "I want to…er, help, save the…buck. The…Fa, Kingdom?" It came out sounding more like a question. "And somepony's got to keep him and his damn heroics out of trouble," he added, with a jerk of his head the shoulder towards Shadow Fire. That seemed to suffice as explanation for the princess…or maybe none was really needed, for after a moment, that siren light started again, the sapphire floating downwards to meet Inkbrand's upraised hooves. To his immense surprise, the sapphire suddenly morphed into the shape of his cutie mark, down to every last spike.

"…Huh. You've got good taste," Inkbrand told the gem, absently unhooking one of his chains to attach the gem onto it. The gem rested right against his rump, dangling off the right side. Inkbrand felt his tail flick with something like pride, and he couldn't resist throwing a smirk and a wink over his shoulder at the orange-haired mare, before one of the princesses started speaking to the group at large, voice deadly serious.

And…there was that urge to laugh hysterically again. Inkbrand wondered if he could make it out the door before he was pan fried.

'I knew it,' he thought, glancing down at the sapphire with a somewhat disappearing look, 'bucking elements of harmony and s**t.' This was straight out of a fairy tale. Weren't the elements of harmony - or whatever these were - suppose to represent virtues and other feel-good stuff like that? Inkbrand fought to remember what the six elements of harmony were. If these gems were similar to those…then, what was he? Laughter maybe? Celestia knows he was a pony that actually knew what it was to let loose and have a good time. Definitely wasn't magic.

And those were the only two he could remember off the top of his head.

Buck.

[[ OOC : xD I ended up going with a mix of the sapphire drawing Inkbrand in, and Forest's goading. And I hope it's okay that I went ahead and 'gave' Inkbrand the sapphire, just to help move the plot along.

Also, I find it uproariously hilarious that Inkbrand is the only pony kicking up a fuss about heading off on a novel quest to save the Ma Kingdom. All the others are like "cool beans" xD. I can just imagine them all heading out and dragging Inkbrand with them as he claws at the floor, lulz. ]]

Yu nodded towards Mystic as he accepted the gem and turned to find Inkbrand and Forest Frolic having a spat. She turned a disapproving eye on them and watched as the skirmish seemed to be the last straw for the stallion. He stepped forward and, although he was rather brash, she lifted the stone off her neck and let it pass to his waiting hooves. All three of her stones were now with their proper owners, and it seemed Jin had just about finished up with hers as well.

She kept her gaze on Inkbrand as his gem changed to match his cutie mark and gave a rather unamused hum. "While your energy is appreciated, it would do you well to reign in your colorful language when you arrive in the Ma Empire. You, as well as the rest of you, will be representing Equestria in your actions and words. We value respect, dignity, and grace in our homeland," she added as she eyed the rest of the chosen ones. "While I don't expect you all to be perfect models of a Ma citizen, I do ask that you show those that respect you the same courtesy."

They would be surprised to find that they'd be treated a bit like royalty themselves since they were the only ones that had a hope of vanquishing the darkness over the castle, but she issued no warning about that. It would be something for them to discover on their own.
