"So take them with you," she said with a shrug. "Or trust that the winds of chance will blow you back into each others paths. Either way, there's not much you can do. Fate is fate - changing it is....messy. That little fluff, though, it's off on a whirlwind adventure to see the world. I'm a little jealous of it, aren't you?"

She smiled a bit, mistily. "Maybe a bit," she admitted.

"Of course," Cynder said smoothly. "You don't have to just sit here in an envious stupor." She nodded her head at the distant horizon, "Set off on your own, take a chance. Don't let that little fluff be the one to have all the fun." She added with a light flick of her tail, "You said you don't talk with family much, maybe go on an adventure to see them. Or, better yet, go on an adventure and come back with a new tale to tell. Those are the best parts of a journey, the stories you have when you return."

Her eyes lit up at that possibility. "I suppose," she murmured, more to herself than the larger mare, "It would be absolutely fascinating to learn stories in other places. I have all of our local tales memorized." And then some, but she didn't add that. Just as she had a tenancy to get lost in her own day dreams, she also like to share some of those daydreams with others. But they always struck her as... lacking. Maybe going off on an adventure would do her good. She could get some real experience to add oomph to her own tales... And that would be on top of learning the stories of other races and other herds. She bounced to her hooves, getting more and more excited about this idea with each passing seconds. And then a reality inserted itself abruptly and rudely into her thoughts. "Oh... but I couldn't," she sighed.

Cynder Song blinked at the little mare's sudden declaration. "Why not?" she asked in all astonishment. "A journey would do you no harm. In fact I've seen many grow from such an adventure. Besides, it's fun!"

“I wouldn’t be able to go alone,” she explained with a heavy sigh. “Oh, I’m certain I COULD. It’s not like I would be going in any particular direction, so there’s no worries of getting lost. But I have been rather… sheltered. I have never wandered farther than a mile or so away from my home. I know stories of what is out in the world, but who is to say what is true and what is exaggerated to make for a better tale? What if I come across a danger that isn’t really a danger? Or what if I come across something I THINK isn’t a danger, but is? Oh, I realize the whole point is learn and grow… but how does one do that without dying? Forgive me for being a little foolish, but that seems like it would defeat the purpose, wouldn’t it?”

"As you will," Cynder said with a smile and a half shrug. "But come what may you may still end up dead in your bed, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow - but that will be your fate if you choose to never travel. It's up to each of us to decide which risks we wish to take. To me, at least, the risk of living without seeing as many things as I can see is too great. I love to travel and see what I can see. The risk, even the risk of death, is nothing compared to the risk of not living. But that's just me, and they say I have strange ways."

Lexicul considered that for a moment. "Would... would it be alright for me to travel with you for a bit?"

Cynder smiled slowly, "I would be honored. I enjoy traveling in the company of new souls. I find it makes the journey all the more interesting."

Lexicul smiled brightly. “Oh, thank you! I promise, I’ll make myself useful!” She wasn’t sure HOW she could make herself useful, but surely she had some skill or another that would make her worth having along. And the sights she’d see! The people she’d meet! Of course, she didn’t expect Cynder to keep her around indefinitely. Surely Cynder had her own goals or destinations. They would likely find a crossroads which took their interests into two separate directions. But still, the idea of being able to start off traveling with a familiar, or at least semi-familiar, companion, someone who could be considered a friend… that made something that was otherwise incredibly daunting less intimidating. And Lexicul was determined not to be a burden.

"I'm sure you will," the mare replied good naturedly. "You can start now by selecting our path. What would you wish to see? Or at least what do you want to see first?" She cast her eyes off to the horizon, "Our options are nearly limitless. But sometimes the greatest burden is making the choice."

“Where to begin?” she repeated, her eyes sparkling. As Cynder said, the possibilities were endless. In the space of a few seconds, Lexicul’s mind ran through all the stories she had heard since she was a young foal, and there were quite a few. She had always soaked up tales of far off places, even before she decided she wanted to be a story teller. “I’ve heard of oceans and creatures that live in their depths,” she mused. She had always thought such tales were just stories, but that had been part of the fun of stories. The possibilities that there was truth hidden in the fantastical. Yes, she decided. She’d like to start there. Even if there were no creatures living in the depths of the oceans, the idea of seeing an unending spread of water was appealing and exciting.

The mare smiled thinking back to her own travels to the distant and deep oceans. She had been humbled by their unknown depths and had even once managed to coax a merpony into having a chat with her. The land below the sea that this stallion described was remarkable and Cynder envied this fellow's ability to dive deep beneath the waves and explore this strange new world. "I think that is a wonderful idea," the mare replied cheerfully. "It's been a long time since I've seen the sea, I would relish a return visit." She nodded slowly contemplating the direction for such a journey and the provisions they would need to gather. "It will take...maybe a day to prepare. Do you need to speak to anyone? Let them know that you're going to be off and about for a while?"

"It would be wise, I'm sure," Lexicul mused, more to herself than Cynder. She nodded finally. "Yes... I'll tell my family that I am leaving. Thank you!"

"That's an excellent idea. While you are there see if you can find a bag or pouch of some type. Food might not always be easy to find and it helps to carry some things along with you. A small blanket might also be a good choice for a travel companion, but you don't want much more than that. Remember, anything you elect to take with you must be carried for the extent of our journey. Things that seem light at first only grow into heavy burdens," she went over her own mental checklist, finalizing the needed items that she would find in the next few hours. "We'll meet back here tomorrow morning?"
