The first stone crumbled.
Tobias swept the broken pieces out of his way and moved the second one into place. He took a moment to set the carving tool down as he took a deep breath, chanting quietly under his breath. He had to focus and find his center. He had only two more chances to carve a rune, otherwise he'd have to wait an entire week before he could try again. Otherwise, he'd have to bribe another hunter to get his phone charged again.
Tobias pushed the thoughts from his mind, trying to clear them as he began to carve the second stone.

The second stone crumbled.
Tobias glared at the pieces as he swept them aside, wanting to do nothing more than to chuck the third stone immediately onto the ground and walk off in a huff. But that wouldn't get him anywhere, nor would it give him the charging power he needed.
Tobias took a deep breath and tried again.

The third stone began to glow. Tobias nearly wept with relief as the stone meant he would have light tonight. He cleaned up the mess his crumbled stones made after pocketing his first successful rune, then went to fill out the proper paperwork.
