Pei de Chine "If I weren't realistic now... I'd be forced to be realistic later." Taking big risks, chasing dreams... those were nice ideas, but they belonged in the movies.
She fell silent. Only the soft rustling of the trees filled the spaces of their paused conversation as she turned towards her thoughts. She just... couldn't bring herself to face the future she was expecting. But she wasn't willing to do anything drastic to change it, either. It was a contradicting existence, and she knew it. It was easier to simply not think about the future.
Jasmine's thoughts were interrupted as her legs started to ache in protest at her current sitting position. She longed to sit cross-legged, but the fabric of her skirt would stretch awkwardly. She fidgeted for a short moment before breaking the silence with a quiet request. "...Senpai, mind sharing your tree?" Kyouya slid over wordlessly, as if still mulling over what she'd said. Perhaps he was, as he turned to her a few moments later, those dark eyes entirely calm behind those rimless glasses. "If you already know that you're going to be forced into it later, why spend your time doing it now when it isn't required?" he pointed out coolly. "You don't seem satisfied by the realism, after all, or you wouldn't consider it to be forced upon you. Why are you wasting your time?"

Jasmine stood up, quickly brushing off her skirt before sliding into the vacant spot beside him. She sat at a respectful distance, their extended legs forming a forty-five degree angle between them. Even so, as she turned to face him to reply, his analytic gaze seemed too close. She changed the direction of her gaze just a beat too quickly, choosing to look down at the ground instead.
"It's... easier." Jasmine didn't know why she was sharing these thoughts with the boy. She hadn't really spoken about this with anyone at length, but it almost felt... liberating to vocalize her convoluted reasoning. As if by releasing the words through her lips, they weighed less heavily on her heart. "Even if I'm not satisfied, It's predictable and safe." Her voice was quiet and her tone measured. (( sorry for the long wait and overall inactiveness! I've been crazy busy @~@ ))

"Better to stay within your limits and be secure, than push outside and possibly fail?" Kyouya didn't seem to be looking at her, either, but rather up at the cherry blossoms, a petal drifting down here and there like delicate snowfall. "I suppose if that's what you prefer, and you're capable of handling the ennui of choosing the easy path." There was, perhaps, something restless under that calm demeanor. Kyouya slid his glasses back into position. "It probably would give you more free time as well, if you weren't feeling the need to achieve more, but merely stay in place."

That's the thing, I don't know if I can, she silently screamed. Outwardly, she remained calm, eyes flicking upwards to gaze at the cherry blossoms as well. Really, given the option, anyone would prefer doing something they loved for the rest of their lives.
"It's... not that I don't want to achieve anything. It's that I haven't found anything I feel a desire to pursue."

Pei de Chine That's the thing, I don't know if I can, she silently screamed. Outwardly, she remained calm, eyes flicking upwards to gaze at the cherry blossoms as well. Really, given the option, anyone would prefer doing something they loved for the rest of their lives.
"It's... not that I don't want to achieve anything. It's that I haven't found anything I feel a desire to pursue." Kyouya turned his head slightly to study her out of the corner of his eye, setting his notebook down next to him as he gave her a bit more of that sharp attention. "Is that so?" Not quite a rhetorical question -- there was a definite note of I don't think I believe you in it. "Then why did you seem to suggest that you had an alternate idea in mind, when we were dancing?"
