The flush of his face was rewarding, but his silence disappointed her. Her hand fell away, and she sighed sharply. Her shoulder rested on the wall, and her head tilted so she could look at him.

That color on his skin looked so beautiful.

"Why do you have so much hate?" She murmured curiously. "I'm not asking you why you hate me." One side of her lips quirked up in amusement. "Just, what drives you to have so much emotion about anything?"

He might have hated her, but that only meant he cared enough to feel this much. And she liked that, more than anything else.

That was why Otto was her favorite.

At first he was sure she was justing toying again. She knew damn well why he hated her. They may have shared an awkwardly horrendous memory in a false universe, but it was more fuel to the fire. It may have been the reason she saw fit to tease him in the first place.

His brows furrowed as he listened, wondering if he should even bother giving her the time of day with such stupid questions. Like she actually cared why he was angry. She didn't care. She was just bored.

He crossed his arms, leaning against the wall as he pondered what to say to her. "If you're asking why I feel things, you must be stupid." He griped,

"I'm ******** human."

The little quirk of her lips disappeared. It was the only indication that he'd said something that hit a mark he wasn't aiming for. She crossed her arms even tighter around herself, and her eyebrows furrowed in deep thought.

"And I'm not?"

"I didn't say that." He scoffed as if she was reacting over nothing. Girls were so weird. "Or were you suggesting I get over emotional?"

Her brow smoothed over as if nothing had ever happened. "Well, it intrigues me. You give me such delicious reactions to things that other people just brush off. And I've seen you on twitter sometimes, just getting riled up." Her hand reached out, and patted his chest fondly. "I'd love to know just what makes you tick."

Because whatever it was, drove him. Good or bad, it drove him. Having a drive for anything at all seemed tiresome and difficult.. but Otto had enough drive for even the most asanine of things. And people.

"Why does everything seem to matter?"

He'd been a little more careful lately not to let himself get too involved in Twitter for that very reason; Everyone saw. Everyone knew he had a short fuse, and it was only embarrassing for him.

Maebe may not have known it, but she was asking him very difficult questions. What made him tick? What drove him? Why did he take it all so personally? Why?

He blinked, his brows furrowed as if he was trying to figure her out. He was thinking. Honestly trying to think of an answer, the cogs whirring in confusion inside his blond head. Why did it matter so much what other people said or did? Why did it ever matter?

"...I don't know."

"What a disappointing answer." She sighed out. Her body turned, her back resting on the wall, and she stretched her arms up cat-like until they were folded behind her head. "Maybe you should think about it some more and try again."

Her head turned just enough to level her eyes on him, but they never stayed long. She raked down his body, sizing him up. Any minute now, she was going to stop caring about conversation and get back to taking what she wanted from him.

His passion.

"We'll be here all day if you seriously think I can figure myself out with a few minutes of thinking." Otto griped, maintaining his position on the wall. He peeked down at her only because she was still there. Still seemingly present as her business was not yet complete.

She was judging his body again.

His arms crossing tighter across his chest, turning his head away with a sour expression.

He closed up the moment he realized she was looking, and she flooded with the high of knowing just a look had him reacting. God, he was satisfying. She slid closer, and rested her head on his shoulder, staring up at him with wide, overly-infatuated eyes.

"I'd love to spend the whole day with you."

And she was back. Great.

"Why?" He huffed out in irritation, "Don't you got something better to do?" How was making him squirm fun? Why did she and so many others get off on making other people feel uncomfortable on this island?

He knew she wasn't actually hitting on him. Nothing about her was sincere. She'd said herself he wasn't her type. Didn't fit the criteria. She just liked how he reacted to her teasing. A game.

He did not want to be a plaything for her enjoyment. He was more than that. He had to be more than that...

"No." Nothing was better than this, at this moment. "You are absolutely the best thing to do right now." She chuckled quietly, closing her eyes. His shoulder was a little too hard, too tense. It wasn't very comfortable to rest on, but she faked it impressively. "Come on. Tell me something about yourself, Otto. Tell me why I can touch you," Her hand slid snakelike under his arms, and pressed on his chest. "And you tense up hard as a rock?"

She knew better than to think it was as easy as being aroused by her. She knew she got under his skin, and for some reason, she just wanted to know why.

Why did she emphasize that word? She was purposely trying to get something out of him, and he wasn't really sure what it was.

As if he'd tell her anything about himself. He rarely told his closest friends anything about himself. Not his fears, not his insecurities, not even his hobbies. He shared little to nothing. Anything they knew was by some fluke. He would give this woman nothing of himself.

And maybe that was why he tensed whenever someone showed interest in him, even fake interest like hers.

The hyper focus on him was making his cheeks flare up, like he was trapped in some oven and she was slowly burning him alive. His space was being invaded, his bubble getting poked. He bit his lip and tried his best not to meet her eyes. Her invasive touching despite the wall and shell he'd created with his arms breaching his defences.

He tried to pull away from her by moving a little further away. "What makes you think I'll tell you anything? What the ******** would I get out of it?" He managed to get out, seethingly.

"Ah, a man after my own heart." He wanted a deal. Maebe absolutely loved making deals. She perked up, getting off his shoulder in order to look as though she was contemplating the terms - but she already knew what she was going to give him.

"You tell me what happened to make you so sensitive and passionate all the time.. and I, in turn, will leave you alone."

She leaned in and kissed his shoulder, before gracing him with the sweetest smile. "Forever."

Forever? That sounded way to good to be true. Otto had a hard time trusting people, and Maebe didn't strike him as trustworthy.

"I tell you my sob story, and you'll stop teasin' me?" He felt the need to ask again, just waiting for her to say 'psych!'. He had a hard time believing that one. A very hard time. And was it even worth it? What if it was true, and she did leave him alone. It made him uncomfortable giving this woman personal information. It made him uncomfortable being vulnerable enough to admit anything about himself like that.

He started to think on it. He just didn't understand why she found him so entertaining to begin with. She didn't actually care about him, so why bother asking such a thing?

Maebe was just confusing. And infuriating. He wished he didn't care what she wanted or thought. He wished he didn't care what anyone thought.

Ugh. Whatever.

He heaved a very sudden and disgruntled sigh, leaning his head back against the wall. It didn't hurt to try. Maybe once he sated her curiosity, and dispelled the mystery, she really would leave him alone. That would make him happy, right?

"My life growin' up revolved around tryin' to make Dad proud or not pissed at me. Which, by the way, is ******** impossible. I care so much because it's ingrained in my head that I have to put my all into everything I do, or else." He gave her sidelong glance.

That was the simplest way he could answer her. Honestly, he had no idea why he still had passion left after years and years of failure and rejection. He still didn't know why he was hyper sensitive to every criticism cast his way. Why he took everything anyone did or said so personally. He would have figured all of that would have simply been drained.

But it never drained empty. It just bottled up. Hissed out with every attack on himself, and replaced just as quickly.

Maebe shook her head, just once. "If it was impossible, that means you failed. If you failed, why would you continue to put your all into things?" His curt explanation made no sense. "You never got a positive outcome, but you still do it. Why?"
