Leilani noticed the blush but it did not seem worth mentioning. What she had said was the truth at least in her mind. Siébel might just be unused to compliments?
She chuckled when the other mare spun around before picking a direction. "Sounds good to me. Lead the way then?" It was quite nice scenery here, there seemed to be a lot more worth looking at than further south in the plains. But even those had once been exciting to her once upon a time. "So, how long has your family lived here?"

Siébel gave a nod and headed off towards the west, enjoying the view of the spring wildflowers peppering over the landscape. At Leilani's question, Siébel tapped her chin with the metacarpus of her wing. "Hmmmm, I don't know for sure; much longer than I've been alive for sure. My Uncles, they used to live up in the mountains," she said, motioning up the treacherous looking terrain. "They left to come down here and form their own family. Its just been kind of collecting new ones like a snowball," she said with a warm-hearted chuckle.
"Sometimes that is the best sort of family." Leilani's family wasn't near as 'complex'. She had more friends than family she was particularly close with. "The one you choose for yourself." She smiled. "I have my father and my son. A gentlemanly old man and a curious younger one." She would not trade either one for anything in the world. "Do you have any children of your own?"

Siébel felt her face warm at the mention of children, and she didn't know exactly why. She still considered herself a filly pretty much, through she knew she was plenty old enough to have had foals if she wanted to. It hadn't been too long ago that her father had pulled her aside for the 'the talk' - awkwardly trying to explain how a boy Soquili and a girl Soquili can fit together to make babies if they loved each other and all, and that's why she had to be careful and be weary of stallions who were too affectionate too fast...
She shook her head, shaking the image from her mind. She had never liked a stallion that way. Especially not enough to do what to... well...
She cleared her throat. "No, no children," finally said, pulling herself out of her own headspace. Leilani had mentioned her own foal. "You have children?" She didn't know why that sounded so alien to her. Did that mean she had a mate? "You don't live with the father?" she blurted out, before thinking better of it.
Two very different boys when they were young. Allegro had turned out alright, at least she thought so, all things considered. But how had Avery fared without his mother? Siébel wasn't the only one caught up in her own memories. The brown mare heard her companion's questions but it took a few moments for her to answer them. "Two sons, actually."
"And no, I do not." Leilani let out a soft whicker, an almost wistful sound. Her tone did not sound at all put off or offended by the question. "He was a friend once upon a time. I have not seen him since we parted ways. I was probably around your age when it happened." There was no regret over her sons, but looking back she had probably been too young for motherhood. Too young and too scared. "Both of my boys are grown now, one I have not seen since he was small - he went with his father. Allegro and Avery."

"Oh, I see," she said, cocking her head. "I don't live with my mother," she said, so she understood what it was like to be raised by one parents and not the other. "I have two other siblings I see every now and them, but my Dad and I live in a different place so yeah."
She missed her mother at times, but she always kind of wondered by her sire and dam didn't stay together like some other couples she had seen. "Some couples stay together forever and some don't. I wonder why..." she mused out loud.
Perhaps it wasn't really a query mean to be answered, but it slipped out anyway. "Part of it is the nature of youth, I think, or just natures in general. Some are just not suited to one other alone." That seemed to be the norm for the most part, which in some ways was unfortunate. She guessed Rhapsody had fallen into that category since he had moved on. "That is not really for me though; I would rather find someone who only has eyes for me." Perhaps it was her father's influence. None the less, it was a rather romantic notion that gave her all sorts of good feeling warm fuzzies.

Siébel nodded as if she understood, but she honestly didn't, really. "Yeah, I don't know how I would feel about that," she said honestly. She knew that one day her father might find another lady to love, but she hadn't dwelled on what that may mean for her, or how she felt about it.
"I've never felt that way about a boy," she said. "I dunno, just never met one that impressed me much," she said with a scoff.
"I figure if it happens it happens, if it doesn't it doesn't." She tilted her head to the side, as if shrugging. She had not totally given up hope totally; but love, or at least companionship, was one of those things that might be nice but it wasn't a prime concern. "Nor have I really, since that first time." Beyond that there did not seem to be much more to say, or ask, on that subject.
The scenery here was much more rough and wild than it was back home. Not that the Kawani had done much to change things but it was certainly enough to be noticeable with the fields and the village proper. "I don't suppose you get many two leggers up here at all?" When they came to small stream she stopped and dipped her muzzle in for a drink, which meant a good deal of her mane went in as well.

Siébel nodded sagely. "Yeah, I suppose you're right." She gave a shrug and paused as her companion stopped to drink at the steam. She smiled as her hair fell in, pleased that she didn't seem to overreact. She wasn't a prissy as most girls; and her hair got wet or muddy or dirty all the time.
The filly considered the question about the two leggers. "Not many," she said, looking off towards the mountains. "There's one medicine lady who lives up in the mountains, and you'll see her around sometimes."
Having a long mane and tail was something she had gotten used to. Hers has grown in quite quickly, some trait passed down from her mother's side, at least that was her father's guess. Having spent her youth tromping through various landscapes, including a few mud holes, a little water was hardly a big deal. It was probably a wonder that her pure white 'assets' weren't more permanently stained than they were now.
Once she was finished Leilani righted herself, muzzle and mane still dripping. The mare shook her head to get a bit of the excess water off, accidentally sending some Sibeal's way. "In some ways that's a shame. I had a lot of fun with the one who was my father's friend when I was little." Niyol used to play games with her, braid her mane and give her treats. It had been one of the best things ever up to that point in her life.

Sorry I never responded to this - my muse was just slaughtered when I changed jobs and everything was kind of uprooted for me. How about we mark this one closed maybe, and continue again maybe once her baskets come? Siébel would be crazy curious about the new arrivals.
