"All the eccentric and wealthy people dress however they like. " she offered with a bright smile. She knew it for a fact. "We just look very rich is all, they will treat us well."
She nimbly thumbed through the menu with a perfect nail. She decided she was going to have a few small dishes but which packed a punch in cost, foie gras and truffles featured in the array. She watched him eye the side of the menu which housed the wines and smiled.
"We should absolutely get some wine." she agreed

Jerry tried to count how many months he had been sober. He couldn't remember anymore. Let's see... If he had been taken into custody in October, that was five months, plus a few months before that- "I um... h-how about you ah... order for me?" He turned his trembling expression into a pained smile, putting the menu down.

"Sure!" she said eagerly, running a finger down the menu. "Um. Lets get this one?"
She beckoned over a waiter and ordered them both some very expensive food and a very very vintage wine. "Thankyou." she said to Jerry, when their menus were taken away. "I am so spoiled by you!"

"It's... it's been a while since I've had... this sort of... um. Any sort of like... proper date. Let alone on Valentine's" He blushed, smiling over his water glass. He drew in a deep breath, drumming a finger on the table as he tried to will himself to relax.
Something would go wrong. Someone would report him for drinking, Chantelle would lose interest in him, They'd get mugged and he'd get in trouble for pulling a bazooka out in the middle of New York...
Deep breaths.
Charlotte's words softly returned to his mind's ear. Denied the ability to live normal, happy, human lives... Maybe they weren't. Maybe they still could. One just had to work by Deus's rules was all.
His smile picked up. "I can't believe how beautiful you look tonight. I'm the lucky guy."

Chantelle didn't expect anything to go wrong. She was having a fantastic night and small expensive food was on the way.
She beamed at him. "No, we are both lucky. I like, didn't think anyone would ever want to be my friend or anything more. I always end up like, really alone in the world no matter what I do. You reached out to me when no one else would. And you understand music and everything. You are a gift Jerry, it's almost too good to be true."
Neatly she folded her napkin and straightened out her cutlery while their starters were brought out, she picked out one of the array and clearly gestured to Jerry what he would be expected to use with subtle nod.
Taking a dainty bite she let out a satisfied hum of approval. It had been so long since she ate real food.

Jerry sank down in his chair slightly at the compliments, fidgeting with his napkin before tucking it onto his lap politely, his face red. "I'm... I'm n-not so great," He smiled unevenly, "But... but I'm really glad you gave me the chance." The waiter returned with their wine, setting the glasses down before carefully pouring first for the lady, and before Jerry could open his mouth, had poured his as well. He tried to focus on how frustratingly tiny the portions on their plates were, for how pricey. They better taste like nothing else he had ever put in his mouth before. Even so, his eyes drifted back to the wine. "I um." It was probably good wine. Something H would be jealous of, no doubt. Vintage and lovely and he could smell it from where he sat. His hand was shaking slightly as he reached to draw the glass to his nose, eyes closed as his suspicions were confirmed. It probably tasted heavenly.

"You are great." she insisted with a smile.
As the wine was poured she picked it up with dainty grace and sipped it, mulling it over thoughtfully. It was a good year, she knew it was. Some other part of her did anyway. "This is like, wonderful, you should try some."
She ate slowly and patiently, making the small portion last as long as she could. "I had forgotten what like, actual edible things were like. The cafeteria food is always so so bad." It tasted like a well balanced chord of flavour, reaching out close to emotion, close to satisfaction.
"You really get what you pay for."

The wine remained untouched as he reached to gently try one of the small h'ors d'ouvres and instantly his eyes lit up. He chewed slowly, taking in the texture, the taste. "Oh... oh wow..." He wanted more, but, portions were small- that was it. "That's... that's got to be the biggest oral tease..."

Chantelle gave Jerry a single, slow blink. It was the closest Lawr had come in a long time to a look of shock.
And then she went on, as if she'd never missed a beat. "Yeah it like, it would be nice to have more." Except she couldn't actually afford to eat more than what they were provided with. "But I guess like given the price of this stuff, that'd be pretty scary too."

Jerry laughed awkwardly when his joke didn't seem to fly. "I mean it's delicious!" Finally, he caved. He needed to calm down. He needed to relax. That was what today was all about, wasn't it? He wasn't on a mission. He wasn't (as far as he knew,) being monitored. And he'd have to watch his intake if he wanted to walk out of this with his pockets in tact. He took a sip of wine, and at least had the presence of mind to savor it in his mouth, deep breaths from his nose just amplifying the flavor. It was the best wine he had ever tasted. He took another sip, and it took all of his control to keep it at a sip.

Chantelle very much agreed that it was delicious and nodded. "It is. I mean, like it had better be." she laughed herself, though without a touch of nervousness. She seemed at home surrounded in luxury, relaxing into herself and giving Jerry approving looks as he seemed to settle down a little himself. Don't let that one drink. She remembered and wondered why.
"It's my favourite year." she said with a smile, explaining why she knew about any vintage year of wine by adding. "It's what Christian Grey in 50 shades drinks. I've always wanted to try it!"

"Well, he's got excellent taste, whoever Christian Grey is!" Jerry laughed, nervousness fading from him the more sips he allowed himself. He drew in a deep breath and helped himself to another sample of their fancy little meal. "I never realized food could be this complex, ahaha. Well, I did, but I mean I've never tasted it, really. I mean, I've had lobster before and good steak and stuff but I'm not sure Outback Steakhouse compares to this, ahahaha. Very good pick."

"He like, totally has. Mostly, like, I mean if I was in that book he would pick me sooner than the girl that's in it but whatever. I have someone better." she beamed at him "And it's great isn't it? You can do with food what you do with music, layering it up to like, get it to taste better. I like to cook sometimes, it's like composing I think, you just have to know what flavour notes work well together and how to use like, your instruments."
She finished off her portion and the wine that was left, looking sorrowfully at the empty glass.

Jerry had also drained his glass. He wondered how much a refill would cost. "Pick a girl? Oh, it's a romance story? I know I'd pick you immediately," No need to rush it. He could still taste it, smell it drifting up out of his empty glass with it's rare bouquet. He chose to concentrate on this marvelous woman ahead of him, an eager smile on his face to keep the conversation rolling. And he'd much rather pick the girl than the wine, that was for sure. Her outfit was stunning in the backdrop of the dinning room, her makeup like a painting. An avid reader, a lover of music, sweet tempered...

It didn't take long for their next course to be brought through, a little larger than the previous portion but not by much. She didn't break her commentary but did nod that they wanted their glasses refilled. "I think like, I just really enjoy indulging my senses. Like, I enjoy music, it makes my ears happy, I enjoy good conversation, good books for my eyes, good food.." she waved a hand vaguely, implying something unsaid.
"I'm glad you can appreciate those things. Especially music. Music is the most important."
