She laughed too, and no one could tell, not even her, if she was laughing because she found something amusing or because it filled the air with a facsimile of joy.
"I won't drown," she said, though that wasn't really an answer.
The water crept up slowly and she could almost imagine what it would be like to go under willingly.

" Good," he said with more conviction. " Here it comes." The murky water reached to his chest and her neck, and he could feel the current sweep floating crabs past, their little crustacean legs brushing against fur. A sharp intake of breath, and he dove once more, insistent on attaining at least one today. Maybe it was because he had an audience, maybe not. She seemed quite absorbed with her own thoughts, and it did not concern him to find them out. When he was underwater, it was as it had always been - him against the waves.

"Good," she echoed, though what exactly she was referring to, it wasn't clear. The flow of water tried to lift her off her hooves, but she did not worry. Instead, she followed his lead and submerged herself in the water.
This time she did try to follow the crabs and though occasionally what she thought were crabs flowed by and even brushed against her on occasion, when she surfaced, the water line brushing her jaw, there was no crab grasped in her teeth.

Abandon did emerge victorious, tossing his head back with a crab flailing in his jaws, proceeding to crush its center as much as he could until the spindly limbs ceased to move. He glanced over wild-eyed in the dark, locating her only by the moonlight filtering through the mangrove trees, and flung the dead crab onto the tangle of roots that stood just above the water. " You're a weird one," he laughed with little tact, " though I'm surprised to see your head up! I thought you might've had a death wish or something for a little while, that'd have been awkward for me."

She didn't mind his words. She laughed softly in response, water lapping into her mouth as she did so. "No, not a death wish, not quite."
"Just almost, but I wouldn't want to make this awkward for you," she smirked a little.

" Do what you want!" He laughed himself, cheekily sloshing some water in her direction before dipping down to acquire another crab at a faster rate, the crunch into its core more vicious than before, the careless fling more forceful. " Don't blame me if you don't really want to. But I've got a request, I guess? Let's get out, eat some crab, and stick around till morning - I thought you were pretty but Motherfather knows I can't tell right now. Doesn't matter if you are or not, just curious." Amorpheous I think we can close soonish, unless you have some issues you want to touch on for her? smile

She laughed brightly, though she wanted to be bitter, and said as light and carefree as she wasn't when it came to this particular issue, "I try, I try."
"Don't worry, if I really didn't want to, I would have never said hello and I wouldn't have waited this long to make this awkward for you," she continued before sinking beneath the water for a long moment before surfacing with a crab, finally, caught between her teeth. She crunched down on the crab and pushed herself up and out of the water to toss the crab over with the others. "Until morning then."
And in that moment, it wasn't so hard to be in her skin.Maxx D Sounds good~ I plan on slowly exploring her issues, so this is good enough for her now since she's been pulled out of her slump mostly. c:

" Fair enough," he said, wading out after what he thought was her, momentarily outlined in the filtered moonlight, and decided that less crabs was a decent sacrifice for surprisingly acceptable company. END Amorpheous Just to let you know I closed it then! wink
