So, are you going to join all this nonsense?

F'cher could tell that the bronze was interested from the way he was watching the others from the heights. To an outsider the bronze would appear uninterested, lounging in a warm spot, simply gazing over the Weyr. His rider knew better though, could feel the focus and intent behind the predators gaze. He wondered why it was that Taivalth hadn't gone down to flirt with the gold. He did love to flirt, so now seemed the ideal time for him to do so. It might actually do him some favours this time. Yet he had not shifted at the gold's roar of challenge, not glided down to join her growing fair.

Patience. You of all people should understand the need for patience. Let those others crowd and bay at her.

That was really the only answer he needed. F'cher hadn't really thought about whether he was allowed to. The gold in question wasn't the senior so he wasn't going to become Weyrleader over it. He figured if his bronze was old enough to chase he was allowed to do so. He'd had the weyrling lessons on how to act in a flight after all, so why not? Still, now he knew that Taivalth was intent on chasing he stood and began to meander his way towards the gold's rider. He didn't really know the girl on a personal level, but she wasn't unattractive so he had no reason to avoid the area. Plus ignoring his dragon's urges felt like it would be an unpleasant experience.

The gold rising into the air still did not move the reclining bronze. Why would he rush, let the others snap at her heels. Whilst snapping at each other apparently. He watched as others joined the fray. Standing the bronze leisurely stretched as the group disappeared into the clouds. Ignoring his rider's point that he would lose them if he waited too long. Stretching out his wings he gave an experimental flap before launching into the air. His pace could only be described as leisurely as he rose into the air and through the clouds. Yes the others were ahead of him, but to Taivalth this didn't really seem that important.

Hyweth had noticed that she was close to being found, and with a snort, she dove towards the bay. Let them keep up with her now! Let them try! She plummeted towards the surf, and stopped, hovering just over the water. She allowed a wing tip to brush against the waves. Could they keep up? Of course not!

She paused, only to spot Taivalth. Another Weyrling! But at least, this one was bronze. Less of an insult, then. But why wasn't he chasing? Why was he not surging forth like the others? Hyweth puzzled over this before turning, towards him! She let out a roar of challenge. At that pace, he would never catch her!

Hatteth was doing well. As was Voracath. But were they worthy of catching her?

Halusilth

A glint of gold and the snap of her wings was what gave her away within the clouds, plummeting down like a golden bullet from the sky. Oh yes, diving. Halusilth was good at this, though it was hardly an effortless feat. Falling was effortless. A boneless free fall was something that the blue thoroughly enjoyed from time to time, always able to use his maneuverable wings to pull himself out of the uncontrolled spin at just the right moment. Hennory found it terrifying, however.

But enough thinking about relaxing free falls; there was a dive that needed to be done. He used his current coasting momentum, slowly folding his wings just a bit more closed until he performed a perfect arc of a dive that would seem more the kind seen from a ship fish in water.. at least until gravity took hold of his weight and began hurtling him toward the sea. His wings twitched and flicked at his sides, open just enough to provide the minute maneuvers to keep him on the proper course. Down, down… He was many dragon lengths away from the queen in his trajectory, seeming ready to dive straight into the sea…

His agility as a blue was what allowed him to pull out of the dive. But no, there was no back-wing, it was a deft flick of wings and tail that took his downward motion into a sharp arc to come level with the water. The G forces caused the fat that layered his muscled frame to ripple, his wings wide open and coasting on forward motion and the air currents coming off the sea. His wingsails practically hissed, flapping so hard against the winds he was cutting through, wing shoulders shuddering with the fight against the G forces he was still riding against as he made a rocket powered trundle bug line towards the hovering gold.

Voracath

He paused in the dense bank of clouds for only a moment, listening intently for the tell-tale wingbeats of the gold. At least, with most of the dragons chasing being small or young, hers would be easier to hear.

There! Voracath twisted on himself just as Hyweth burst from the clouds beneath him. Halusilth was already on her tail but Voracath was close behind. Voracath roared as he saw the bronze dragon take to the skies. Late! He thought he could come in and steal the gold after the flight had already begun?! That cheating b*****d. Voracath wouldn't stand for it!

Speaking 'aloud' so Hyweth and all of the males could hear, Voracath sneered. So the big bad bronze thinks he can just lumber in and take the gold without putting in the effort. Or is it that Hyweth is not worth the effort of one as glorious as he?

Ashlyn and Gyafrith

Gyafrith was also busy listening for any signs of the queen, the clouds obstructed his ability to see her. He soon heard what sounded like the splashing of water and he knew where she was. He turned himself towards the water, then with just the right motion, he was rocketing down through the clouds in the direction he had heard the splash. As soon as he was out of the clouds, he saw a flash of gold and he headed for it. He made sure to right himself before he got too close to the water, then took off after her again. He saw a familiar bronze and heard what Voracath said about his appearance. The logical part of Gyafrith knew this was his brother's normal way, to take things very carefully and he held no grudge against his brother. The other part of him just saw it as more competition and he let out a rumble.

Seems someone figures because they are a bronze, the can just come in here and lay claim to the rights of the golden one. You are pathetic,Gyafrith chortled. Ashlyn winced a little, she knew through his haze of emotions that he would feel bad for how he treated his brothers in this and will apologize when he could.

Taivalth leisurely rolled into a dive after the gold, but not until she had roared her challenge at him. So, he had caught her attention then. Enough apparently for it to bother her that he had failed to cling so desperately to her trail. The bronze weyrling did not press close to the pack. He was a further distance from the rest of them, still seemingly treating this as a casual flight as he drifted down from the cloud layer towards the water. The bronze even pulling into a glide after a short while, deciding against getting too close to the water.

The jeering of his brother's was answered with a low, amused, rumble. Had he really managed to ruffle their wings with so little effort? Taivalth had expected that he would have had to get close to the gold before they decided to turn their attention to him. Was he really so much of a threat that even from a distance he needed to be chased off? Now there was an interesting idea, though he highly doubted any of them would actually break rank to chase him from the flight, it would cost them valuable distance if they did, but perhaps the gold was worth that to them. Maybe a driving off the rude bronze would impress her and gain them favour. Maybe.

Hatteth only dimly noticed when a young bronze joined the Flight, and only then because some of the other suitors were making a fuss about him. Hatteth didn't bother to look or pay him any attention. There was a Flight to be had, and he had to focus on it. Even if he was still the only adult in the chase.

When Hyweth dove out of the clouds, Hatteth turned tucked his wings to follow after her. He was not as quick as he would like to change directions, but regrets would do no good.

Hyweth was absolutely outraged. She bellowed a warning in Vorcath's direction. He would hold his tongue, or be made to leave! And surely he did not want that, as she was worthy of his attention, at the least, and did he not think his opinion was more important than a bronze's? She began to rise, intentionally making a sharp turn away from those chasing her.

Really, did they think they'd win her attention by being rude? The gold took notice again, of Hatteth. Hm. He hadn't complained about the bronze. He hadn't insulted her by indicating she was not worthy! She flew stedily towards him, matching her wingbeats with his. You'll have to move fast, if you want to catch me.

Voracath

Voracath kept his silence, amused by the queen's anger. He wasn't the one she should be mad at. He'd not insinuated that she wasn't worth it, only that the bronze was insulting her and the rest of them by his sloth.

Her favors had turned to another though. Voracath twisted his neck, following her turn and putting his wings into the effort. It was time to get in there and catch her before she could give herself to the other brown who was not putting in his best effort. Couldn't she see that Voracath was the better choice? That HE was giving her everything he had while these others just sat back and waited for her to tire. HE was working to keep pace with her. HE was putting in the effort to win her, not just catch her when she grew too tired to be a challenge.

Ashlyn and Gyafrith

Gyafrith watched the queen carefully, surprised by her bellow in Voracath's direction, guessing she was not thrilled with how they had been treating Taivalth. Truth be told, he would have been upset himself, but he wasn't exactly thinking with his head at the moment. He watched as she rose and he quickly followed her, making sure to be careful when she made the sharp turn away from them, before pouring on the speed. He noticed her take notice of the older brown again and he was a bit annoyed. What did that other dragon have that they did not have?

It seems the golden one has a favorite, we will just have to see about that,Gyafrith thought to his rider, before flying quickly in pursuit of her.

Was Hyweth flying towards him now? Perhaps he had a shot at this, then. He pumped his wings all the harder, straining to reach her. Even if she did fly near him, she seemed fond of sharps turns to try and lose her pursuers. She might try and tease him, fly just close enough to seem reachable then swerve away at the last second. He had to be ready for things like that, to save a bit of strength for a sudden push and to be alert enough to seize his chance if it presented itself.

Halusilth

It was expected that she would head to the skies again; twining happened high in the sky, as well it should. When she rocketed upwards toward the heavens, he would follow. Weyrling training had done much for his stamina, but with the feverish beats of his wings hefting his bulk into the sky after her, he could feel the beginnings of fatigue within his wings. He was far behind considering that she was intentionally closing the distance to give her favored brown the lead. He was coming close to thinking it was a flight he would not win.

Of course, Halusilth was a dragon who put a positive spin to literally -everything-. The queen's temper was voracious, as was nearly every male in the sky aside from it seemed himself and the passive, almost aloof bronze.

Many dragons were in this flight for themselves. With Hal's wings beginning to burn from hefting his opulent form around, he took a slight back seat to things, taking a few moments to rest his weary wings on a thermal. This was a good workout, and that in and of itself pleased him. His lack of possibly being able to catch the gold was slightly less pleasing, but at a baser level, deeper even than the need to fly and breed, was the good of the Weyr. The good of the Weyr was that the fastest, strongest, or at least cleverest will catch the cold, and the clutch would be a fine one.

Now… Hal wasn't one to put himself down; his children would be healthy, for sure… but maybe today wasn't his day to prove that.

That didn't mean he couldn't help to make sure Hyweth flew hard and fast, putting both him and the other males to the test to make a truly fine clutch.

He was still flying upward as Hyweth made her way towards Hatteth, now once again powering upward to reach their level, aiming to come up underneath them. As he drew closer… perhaps too close for comfort, he gave forth a sweet little sound, a crooning bark to actually -warn- the gold he was coming for her.

(This will be our last round. Tally up your scores after you roll. The person with the closest score to mine, wins! Good luck! If you have missed a round, you may make up for it in this post by rolling a second time.)

Hyweth noticed Hatteth's effort. She approved. Those chasing her, though young, were giving their all. Except, maybe, Taivalth. Hyweth's attention didnt veer for long. Hatteth was by far the most impressive! He was the only adult there, and he was strong in the skies. She moved towards him, crooning her approval. You have flown well. Come, let us fly together.

No! No. No. No. No. No! Hyweth was supposed to be his! Voracath roared his disapproval and pushed his young wings to their limit, desperately trying to catch her before she let that unimpressive piece of dragon dung claim her!
