Varmints... who the heck used that term even these days. Aside from this chick. "Most homes don't seem to have them since the less light and human activity means a perfect place for shadowlings to grow. I'd call this one done. So-" Out the door he went, onwards to the next house. Opening the door to the second house a much larger, fatter shadowling spotted them before trying to roll itself away. "Found more 'varmints'. Would you like first crack at them?"

"Oh gosh, its tiny little pudge legs!" America swung Stryker in a tight arc at her side, and knocked the ball right into the shadowling. It flew in a gentle arc right out a window. It was kind of a crappy window anyway, and probably would have needed to be replaced anyway. In fact it was definitely cracked before they'd arrived. Definitely. Beaming she blew her bangs out of her eyes, and grinned at Marcus, "See? Got it covered!" hp: 36 dmg: 7

He just kind of watched it happen, looking from wrecking ball to wrecked window. He had to be fair, it was probably single pane anyway and would need to be replaced. "Well if we ever start a golf team I'll be sure to recommend you." One shadowling came snarling at him looking a bit like an oversized shaved housecat. It was very quickly stabbed and removed from the room. "Also if you don't mind me asking how did you end up with a name like America anyway?" HP: 56 Dmg: 9

She took it as a compliment and shot him a wink and a little finger gun. "I was born on the Fourth of July. It was a toss up between America and Independence," she confided. "Pretty reaosnable, I think, it's the middles names that nearly got ridiculous. I almost had one for every war the US had ever been in." America caught sight of a shadow thing creeping along a banister and swung Stryker around without thinking. She very nearly took out the whole railing before suddenly remembering that thing she wasn't going to do and grabbed the chain to yank Stryker back to her. The shadow scampered off unharmed, but at least the stairs were still in one piece. Doing her best to pretend that didn't just happen, the girl put on her best innocent face and studied the fireplace. hp: 35 dmg: nope

Following the shadowling to the other room, it screeched at him before he gave it a mouthful of scimitar. "But if you don't mind me prying, what made you join up? Aside from the fact you get to break s**t." HP: 55 DMG: 12 see now why cant he ever get these rolls when it matters?

With a roll of her eyes she began, "More like America Washington Sherman..." Looping her chain around a passing shadowling, she pulled it tight, effectively bisecting the thing as she continued, "...MacArthur Patton blah blah Jones, my uncles are hella fond of United States generals. Though a few prefer weaponry and chimed in jewels like Panzer, Centurion, and Boeing." The comment about her getting to break s**t had her squinting over at the man, because obviously not. The girl flipped her hair over her shoulder and answered plainly, "People who see things other people don't are either special and get recruited into special organizations, or they're crazy and they go into institutions. I always knew I was the special variety, an so was expecting something like this eventually." hp: 34 dmg: 6

He thought about it. "America Centurion Jones does sound pretty badass though." He heard a small sound from above, looking up to find a shadowling hiding in a rafter. It was always the rafters where things liked to lurk. "Huh." He threw his sword at it, managing to knock the shadowling down. "Most people I've talked to just said it validated themselves, what they had to go through. For me, it was this or a future of uncertainty. This one had a specific goal and purpose. Better than either ending up working a minimum wage job or trying to get into a college I'd never be able to afford." HP: 54 Dmg: 15

I enlisted right after my birthday, I'd probably be on a ship or something right now if Deus hadn't come knocking." It struck her then, that it hadn't even been a year since then, barely even half a year and didn't it already feel distant, like a whole nother life? Well, girl had the drive to take charge. He could respect that. "Anything you regret? Anyone you miss?" It wasn't something he often considered either, but sometimes- Another shadowling came, this one through the floor itself, launching it's tiny body at Marcus's face only to be swatted away.
