Warren let out an amused huff. "Yeah everyone loves Kendov. Me not so much... I got into a fight with villagers a couple nights ago." he confessed then shrugged it off. The way she spoke and approached things was so casual, she was far more laid back than he was. It was something he found admirable.
He nodded in response to her question, "Yes. My father makes a living herding them. Not a lot of people bother domesticating them enough to do this but its good money in meat and pelts. We are taking them to Sauti to sell most of them." He started to circle around them, as he did so it pushed them to the center where they started to huddle together.
"We take them north and south in this area depending on the seasons. Now is the time to sell off our years worth of work and start breeding the next cycle." ugh it sounded so boring to him. He had done this most his life so it all seemed mundane. He shrugged, it was something to talk about. He mostly hated small talk because he didn't have much else to talk abut besides herding.

She frowned at his confession. How horrible that must have been, even if he acted like it wasn't such a big deal... "I ran away as a child. My real mother made me stay inside all the time, because when I would go out people would stare and kids would try to fight with me." she confessed to him. She hadn't ever told anyone about that that wasn't a sister, but his confession made her seem like it was appropriate. "I tend to stick by my adopted mother and one friend now, I don't like going among many of my sisters." she finished.
That was interesting. She hadn't ever heard of anyone doing that before. Though it did make sense, a good way to make money. "Do you name them?" she asked as she looked at all of them. There were a lot, and although they would be sold or killed later she thought it would be fun to name them.
"What do you do when the breeding happens? Do you stay in one place until it is all done?" she asked. This was all new to her, so she wouldn't mind hearing all about it.

Warren laughed, not at her, but because her story had some similarity to his. "See where you ran away, my mother ran away from me. and the other kids, I was the one starting the fights. Like you I keep to the outskirts. Just me and my Pa." he paused before continuing. "I suppose thats why you came all the way out here? to get away from people?" He could only guess her real motives for being so far from her home. but if he were her he would probably do the same thing.
"Aaaah.." he groaned "I name some of them? There are a handful that we keep for breeding that we name. But not all of them."
He came up behind the group and started leading them towards the meeting spot. They seemed pretty easy to herd and looked content.
"When we breed them we can actually just keep going like normal. The wild ones can't just stop when they get pregnant it makes them a target. So they are pretty comfortable even up until they give birth. The babies once we clean them up only need a few hours before they can travel like the others." He surprised himself. Warren hardly ever talked this much. He still felt anxious like he might say something weird and embarrass himself.

She laughed at him. "The two of us would have been a funny team as children." she smiled. She could just see the two of them, if she had someone to pick fights with her than things might have been a little different for her. "And no, I came out here to find the one friend I've ever had. She disappeared, and I'm out here trying to find her. Or forget about her. Either way works." she said with a shrug of her shoulders.
"So how long do you keep them as breeders? Till they are old or only for a year or two? Sorry if I'm asking to many questions. I've never meet anyone who raised and sold animals." she said looking over all of the aldabuck. She wondered which were related to each other, which were mothers. Did they know? Were they able to remember who their mother was, or were they just adopted by everyone in the herd?
"How big are they when they are babies?" she said squinting at them. She could imagine them tiny. "Are they cute?"

Warren shrugged "Sometimes we keep them longer, Elwood and Elma are dad's favorite breeding pair, he's had them 7 years. Sometimes those two have good kids and we keep them longer too. We usually sell them at 2 to 3 years old. In that time we breed promising ones to see how they do. And keep the mothers with the young doe so they learn how to parent."
He wasn't used to thinking of or calling things cute. The babies he thought were sweet natured and small. "Um, the babies are about a third the size of the adults in a few days. They are small, but their legs are really long. They grow into them pretty quickly though" He chuckled a little, remember how goofy they looked with their long legs sprawled everywhere. "So yeah, they are cute."
"not all of ours get butchered. A few times we have had people buy the friendly ones as pets. They say they are good at clearing weeds." He shrugged, he wasn't sure what uses they had to those people. He could imagine they could be trained to pull a small cart and could be used for minor labor. Perhaps most useful to a gardener.

Seven years seemed like a long time, at that point they were more like pets than just used for breeding purposes. She liked that they had ones that they kept though, it made the selling and everything seem less barbaric in a way. Not that she thought they were barbaric in anyway, it just growing animals to die didn't seem all that awesome.
When he said they were cute she laughed, imaging what the creatures must look like with their longer legs. "I bet they walk funny at first then." she said as she mimicked how she imagined their legs would be with her fingers on her other hand. "I would have loved to see them all awkward."
"Pets? I could see myself having one as a pet back at home actually. Are they smart?" they didn't look all that smart, but looks could be deserving. For all she knew they were super smart. "I have a sailscale back at home, he isn't all that smart though."

He grimaced "I don't think they are terribly intelligent. They are pretty curious and will wander off and to do what they want. And they are stubborn, so not very trainable. We keep the smart ones of course. They are the most docile. The not so smart ones forget to feed their young or try breeding with everything and end up causing fights."
He guess that someone who haddn't been around aldabuck much couln't tell the difference between the males n females. they both had horns.
"Most of our herd is female. The young males try to kick Elwood off his throne and cause trouble. We try to sell them right away when they do that, but most the time we eat them ourselves. Aldabuk jerky is really delicious by the way."
They had a lot of it actually. When they part he figured Kendov will probably send her off with several handfuls.
They were now back at the place where they last saw Kendov and the herd was ready. The aldabuck were bumming around and a few were making small noises. A few of them perked their ears up and were looking back at the village.
"They also work as an early alert system" Warren pointed out, Kendov could be seen approaching them in the distance. he was jogging lightly with his supplies pack stacked on his back like a tower.

She nodded. She couldn't imagine an animal forgetting to feed its own young. But than again someone of them weren't as bright as the others, it was much like people she guessed. Just in animal form. There were some people who were good mothers, like Briella, and than some like her original mother that weren't as good.
Jerky? She had it before, but never from the creatures in front of her. "Oh yes? I'll have to get some from you before we part than." she said with a smile. She knew that jerky stayed good for longer than most foods, and who knew how long she would be out there.
All of a sudden the animals started looking towards the village, and as Warren spoke she turned as well to see her father. "I bet that comes in handy for predators." she thought out loud. Good hearing must be good for their survival, if they weren't all that smart they had to have something.
Elf Princess Flannery if you want we can time skip soon to her saying good bye and leaving for the war?

(gunna try n wrap it up for you :0 ) Kendov didn't wait long to get going. After he handed over Ilyra's purchased supplies they set off as a group. Kendov led in the front mostly but they switched occasionally having Warren and Ilyra lead the herd too. Warren had traveled these trade routes most his life and they knew the safest paths. But even taking the quickest routes, it was still slow going with the aldabuck. a four days journey became seven day trek to the border. although the it took longer, one could argue there wasn't a safer herd to travel with. Warren had hoped the road would be more eventful, perhaps a predator attack would be exciting, but nothing un-ordinary happened. Warren answered all Ilyra's questions about aldabuck and Kendov did his best to explain to her the nature of the area (how to track certain animals, recognize some poisonous and edible plants ext.) after a long but fairly comfortable journey the group reached its destination. They arrived in a small market/trade post on the border of Tale and Sauti. Here Kendov and Warren would sell or trade off most of the herd and head back home. "Well.." Warren started, "It looks like this is you're stop.." he actually felt kind of sad to have her leave his company, a feeling he didnt expect to have when they first met. "you are going to continue on through Sauti from here?"

As soon as Kendov came back she took her supplies and the trio of them were off! This wasn't a way she had ever traveled before, but she was rather enjoying it. At times she took the head of the herd with Warren, though most of the time Kendov took the lead. As they walked she asked all types of questions. She asked enough questions to become an aldabuck master. And she would never starve as long as she remembered the things she was taught.
It took seven days, seven days where these earthlings became closer than any she had met before. It was funny how traveling seemed to do that to people, bring them close. Although some would have found the traveling boring, to her it was ever so exciting. She had a wonderful story to tell her mother when she went home.
When they got to the small market/trade post she frowned. She was almost tempted to go back with them. They had been so much fun to travel with... And Warren was different like her, it was a relief to be with someone else who was different.
"Yes, I guess it is..." she said with a frown. She went and hugged Kendov, than went to stick her hand out towards Warren since he didn't seem like much of a hugger. "Thank you, this was something that I enjoyed very very much. From here I go, back to my original quest. With a lot more knowledge than before thanks to you."

Warren looked at her hand for a moment, then smiled. He took her hand and shook it firmly. "I think I have learned some things too."
since Warren wasn't fond of saying hello, he had nearly no practice saying goodbye and he wasn't sure how to go about it. Kendov had told him he didn't like goodbyes because you never know when it will be the last one. Some how it felt like there was to much to say but nothing to say at the same time.
He simply nodded, "good luck on your quest. Maybe we will see eachother again when you are done and you can tell me some new hunting stories."
Since they were parting it sounded good to end on something hopeful. His idea of an Alkidike has been forever changed thanks to her, and he might even say he has found a friend. so we call it fin? Warren hasn't been up to a whole lot since they met so I might want to wait a little bit before we start another rp with them but ill let you know ;D
