When it comes to how to live his life he can't be told
Says he's got it all under control
Thinks he knows it's not a problem he's stuck with

But in reality it'd be a problem to just quit
An addict and he can't hold the reins
The pain is worse cause his friends have it the same
Tries to slow down the problem he's got
But can't get off the carousel until he makes it stop

He can only fool himself for so long
He can only fool himself for so long
He can only fool himself for so long
He can only fool himself…

The marvelous smile chiseled on pointed features turned to stone, his flesh stitched in velvet. Fabrics of gold, of silver, of burgundy and reds, of blues and greens and yellows and violet; mask after mask pried upon his whitewashed flesh, too many to name, too many to remember. Harlequin charades and smokes and mirrors burned down on him from bright lights above the stage. The Venetian masks of prominent noses, projecting chin lines and mouthless design was his most proper, most formal of social masquerades and distinct anonymity. The oldest and ancient of, were the animal masks he’d found as a child, that he’d clung to and wielded and stolen the spirit of. So many more masks followed, each one stitched heavily into place. It was all he ever knew, all he would ever know.

The sweetly painted smile still tasted raw, like the wring of flesh constricted under jagged teeth. Cheeks flushed with earnest, diabolical as it was and eyes glittered like Fools Gold. The venom flickered on a forked tongue, feeling the world around him with a cold creeping breeze. the annoyance that fluxed; the tension that was simmering. The shopkeep held a stern eye, practiced and poised. (Chastised, he might even begin to delve the longer he thought to, but her past was her past for a reason, wasn’t it?) Those paraded lines held little meaning to him at first, Ryans barely held his gaze longer than those few sparse seconds it took to speak because he was waiting on her, the dark haired beauty at his side. ”Jules,” he teased her name, swished it on his tongue to taste its every scent. ”Remington,” he introduced himself with an exaggerated wave. ”It’s a pleasure.”

Again, the voice of the shopkeep ringed clearly in his ears, and his brow twitched in the slightest regard. Ah, yes, he almost forgot. A pert sneer wove on his lips at the interruption, his prey clearly chosen for the evening, it wouldn’t do for this little number to wretch it all up for him now. Especially after he’d been so dear. ”Here.” He said flatly, two golden chipped coins engraved with the Gringotts dragon clattered on the desk. He didn’t feel like wasting his enchanted coin purse today on a fee so miniscule. But this wouldn’t end it, would it? He could almost hear her voice picking at the carcass of his mind, whatever was left of it after Jules had had her way with him. ”I don’t supposed I could save the rest for a tab, hm? I’m sure my daughter would find use of it soon enough, under Nott, if you would.” It wasn’t much a question though, he knew it wouldn’t, he’d chosen the words carefully to portray it because he knew everything else about him would betray it; the monotonous tone, the demanding ring. But all of that changed as he looked at Jules once again, this time, flashing a toothy, carnivorous grin, lounging against the stores desktop as if he owned it himself. ”Where would you like to go, Jules?” He played with that name every time he said it. ”I hear an exquisite little restaurant opened not far from here.”

Casey Ryans

I remember a life where I lived as a girl named Acacia Persephone Chaisty, a girl from a pureblood family.
She listened to her family. She followed the path set for her from the main family. She was a Slytherin like the others.
She was quiet and demur. She never questioned the path set forward, but she fell in love with the wrong sort.
A pureblood witch from Slytherin gave up everything for love to marry a half-blood Gryffindor. Is it any wonder the family disowned her?

Casey nodded at Remington's request and said, "14 Sickles and 13 Knuts would be the change. Since you are requesting store credit I'll round the credit up to 15 Sickles. And I of course am still busy perfecting my inventory so there will be regular changes."

She opened a ledger on the counter and wrote with a quill store credit of 15 Sickles under the name Nott. She knew the name enough to be familiar with it to know it an old and rich family. It wouldn't be surprising if he knew her history. The reason she rounded up was not merely kindness, it was more for the hope of having a good word. "Have a good evening," She said, returning to the box of books as Remington Nott discussed with the woman plans for their evening.

She wondered how her husband was handling lessons with their son upstairs in the apartment space they lived above the shop. It was usually she who did the teaching, but currently, Edwin was still waiting to hear back about his job application to St. Mungo's. As she unboxed the books she hoped the two would leave soon. She didn't care for the old family sorts anyways.

spaceCallidora smirked a bit when the woman brought up being disowned. At this point, she'd hooked her fish, after all. No need to keep up any appearances. Still, she could say all the right things, even if her face said they were lies. "Well, managing to purchase the store without the financial backing of a family is quite an accomplishment. Especially one as sold and well-known as this one. I imagine the price for the name must've been high." Not so high, though. She was fairly certain there were at least two shops owned by Muggleborns. How on Earth a filthy mudblood could manage to save enough money to own their own shop in such a well-known location was beyond her. But, rather than be impressed that they'd managed, she tended more to assume that they'd gained the wealth through illicit means... tricking a wealthy man into marrying her, or befriending one and gaining their trust enough to garner a loan. A loan they'd likely never pay back, of course. Disgusting leeches...

spaceShe ignored this next bit, feeling that the conversation was over. No sense in wasting anymore time... not when Remington was looking at her like that. She fought to keep the sneer from her face. Really? She'd known he was a cad, of course, but honestly. Surely the man had some sort of moral... but of course he didn't. All he cared about was his name and his brat. She almost laughed at the predictability of his name-dropping. And when he invited her to the newly opened restaurant, she had to fight tooth and nail to keep from giving into her impulse to claw his eyes out. Really? They'd just met and he'd take her somewhere like that? When he'd... well, that was in the past. She had to keep telling herself that, it was all in the past. Over. Done with. But it still nettled her that he'd invite her out in such an elegant, public place.

spaceStill, she'd never give up an invitation to be wined and dined... even if she knew it was going nowhere. Actually, the fact that he wasn't aware that he had a better chance seducing a cactus amused her... and made her want to drag this out all the more. Let him think he'd hooked his prey... all she wanted was his attention... so that she could laugh at his face when she walked away. "That sounds lovely. I noticed it as I wandered the street; it looked quite inviting." She didn't bother to ask if this was a date; he'd invited her out. If he didn't offer to pay for the meal, it'd just prove what a cad he was... and if he did, she got a free meal. Win win, as far as she was concerned.

                                                                      ═════════════════════════════════

Casey stood with a stack of books and slammed on the counter at Callidora's words about the price of the store. Her brown eyes narrowed dangerously at her and she said, "Fortunately costs in Paraguay were a lot less and my family felt no need to live extravagantly, if you really must know. And furthermore old wizarding families do not hold a monopoly on creating profits. Regardless, I have every right to bar you from this establishment as I do own it, just as you have every right not to visit if you disapprove of me."

Rolling her eyes she muttered a variety of insults in Guarani the slightly more spoken language of Paraguay as she carried the books from the counter to shelve them in their proper place. Casey was not in the mood to be made a spectacle of and figured if she left the two to their own devices they would leave soon enough. If they weren't gone in five minutes she would make good on throwing them out-or at least the woman at the very least.

There it is, he thought, straight faced. There’s the claws, he should have taken an abrupt step back, or face an inevitable wrath. But he hadn’t. He merely tossed golden coins back and forth between each woman and the titillating menace in their breaths. His eyes sparkled something wondrously sweet as sin. She hadn’t changed at all, he realized. He hadn’t broken her, yet. He uttered a flippant sigh under his breath, dismissive in every way. Straightened his posture from leaning against the tellers desk and dusted his robes with a single swipe of his hand. ”As always ladies, it is nice to see the high road being taken.” He said sweetly, softly, an endearing mockery of the lie sharpening his fangs.

Whatever the redhead had said had gone only noticed in her mind, because as far as he knew, that language was not one he’d ever concerned himself with (nor probably ever would.) The flicker of his gaze melted on Callidora, and an enigmatic smile bred an open arm for her to take the lead forward as any woman should-- until he would cross around behind her and steal just to the front once the moment came time to open the door just for her. She was enjoying this, and he could taste the pride and pleasure pooling on her tongue, ready to rip him apart if he made one wrong move...

But he wouldn’t. Not yet, anyway. He wanted to take this as far as he could, as far as she’d let him before he knew the line was about to snap and she’d be released. No, he’d hold her there, or he’d break the line himself. Either way, she wasn’t going to win this game, not in any way she was planning now. Delicately, his gaze entangled across her bare flesh, mesmerized in the reflection of diamonds and emeralds. ”It’s quaint enough,” he agreed, but nothing was ever enough for an aristocratic man. She should know that, by now. ”After you,”

Summer was finally here and Casey noted the many students in Diagon Alley. It was only a matter of time some-many- would end up in Flourish and Blotts, after all the bookstore was known as the greatest supplier for textbooks for Hogwarts. Despite her dislike for Jules and Remington Nott she had taken Jules suggestion and worked on further stocking the store before the summer. Now, a display of magazines and the newspapers were there. She tapped her quill at the counter as she flipped through a book on Arithmacy one of the subjects she had enjoyed in school. Her husband had gotten her acceptance as a mediwizard finally. And Seymour her son was entertaining himself upstairs-most likely avoiding the homework she had assigned him.

She glanced through the large glass window and watched the crowd pass, feeling a bit nostalgic and then returned to her book.

Lyre walked into the bookstore, dressed in her typical mousy fashion. Her eyes were wide as she looked at a row of books. Oh, how fun it would be if she could just afford all the books, but alas, she had just enough for her school books and maybe one or two more. She looked at the list in her hand, then wandered through the aisles to try and find the required texts. Maybe she'd be able to find Xavier wandering around somewhere today, as well! She missed him, and hoped to be able to see her... boyfriend again soon. Even thinking the word brought a grin to her face and a blush to her cheeks.

Casey glanced up hearing the ring of a bell as what looked to be an older student entered the bookstore. She was dressed simply, not for show, but her bright red hair and deep violety-blue eyes would make her stand out regardless. Casey smiled as she noted the list in the girl's hands as she navigated the shelves of books. She blushed slightly thinking of something, and Casey raised a brow, then again the girl was at the age to have crushes and what not or maybe she had thought of something embarrassing.

"Can I help you, Miss? The books are arranged by subject. The textbooks are near the front. Any we have second hand are half price if you are interested in that," Casey said with a smile, her accent while British, had an odd touch of someone who had been abroad for quite some time. "We also will buy back old textbooks for a quarter of their full price. If there is anything beyond textbooks you are looking for I am more than willing to help."

She stepped away from the counter and approached Lyre. "I am Casey Ryans the new owner of the shop. Feel free to ask me any questions. That is why I am here."

Lyre was examining the cover of one of the textbooks she would need, when a voice spoke up. The woman seemed nice and helpful, but Lyre couldn't help but giggle. "Thank you, Miss. I'm certain I can find my way around! I practically live in the library, after all!" When the woman mentioned selling books, a small frown appeared on the redhead's face. Why would someone want to sell their textbooks? Wouldn't you want to keep them? You may need to look back over them some day. She flipped the cover open, reading the book's synopsis, then placed it carefully in the crook of her other arm and reached to get the next book on her list. This year she would have to study extra hard, because she had to take a lot of extra hard final exams. When the woman walked over to Lyre, the fifteen year old offered a polite smile. "Hello Miss Ryans. I am Lyre Lutrix, Fifth Year Ravenclaw." She grinned again, then looked at the second textbook she had located.

Casey smiled, "I spent a great deal of time in the library as well back in my years at Hogwarts. It was a lot warmer than the dungeons to study anyways. My cousin spent a good deal of time there too... but I think she was more busy getting kicked out causing the latest scandals and rumors."

Casey chuckled and pulled Cram It!: How to Soar on Your O.W.L.s from the shelves and said, "Fifth year? So that would be your OWL years. I remember those times. If you aren't the type to do traditional studying or want an extra boost we do have this... it is a bit on the expensive side but study guides tend to be so."

She smiled and said, "And it is Mrs. Ryans, but you can call me Casey. My husband is a Gryffindor." She didn't bother mentioning her former house. She may have many Slytherin traits but didn't feel much affiliation with most of her housemates anymore.

Lyre blinked when the woman spoke of her cousin being removed from the library for causing scandal. What could she have done that was awful enough to be removed from the library? Well, apart from being overly loud, but still! Next the woman pulled a book of OWL studies out, and offered it as a means of nontraditional study. "Thank you, but no. I would much prefer knowing I received my grades due to hard work and added studies, thank you. I have never, and will never, use the shortcut method of academics. I was raised better than that, Miss Ryans." Of course, after she spoke, the woman mentioned to call her by her first name, rather than last. She then mentioned her husband being a Gryffindor, and at the thought of certain males from the house of Lions, Lyre's cheeks turned pink. "Very well, Casey," she started, the name odd on her lips, "If it is your wish to be addressed as such, I won't deny it." She nodded a bit, not used to addressing authority figures by their first names, but rather in a more formal attire.

Casey chuckled at Lyre's answer as she put the studyguide back and said, "I agree. It is better to truly learn the material in my opinion then to take cheap shortcuts. Of course, then again, I was raised to learn that only results are what really matter." She chuckled, shaking her head, "Anyways, the book is expensive, like I said and as I said, I am not a 'Miss'."

She smiled as Lyre blushed at the mention of her husband being a Gryffindor. Did the girl have a thing for Gryffindors or a particular Gryffindor? "If you are not comfortable calling me Casey, you can call me Senora Ryans. I have been called that for quite some time as well."

She chuckled and returned to the counter and said in a teasing tone, "I'll allow you to browse in peace, but you blushed at the mention of Gryffindors. Is there one that caught your eye or do you just generally like the traits they all tend to possess?"

♜ DOB: June 22, 2011 ♜ Height: 5' 7" ♜ Birthplace: Hawkinge (technically Dover), Kent, England ♜ Current Residence: London, England ♜ Muggleborn Witch ♜ Current Student of Hogwarts ♜

I can't believe I just said all that-one about childhood crushes on comic book characters and two some of that advice isn't exactly the best way to handle things... why am I worried he's going to pick the worst one of those options?

"Theo?" Veronica laughed, "I think of a teddy bear when I hear that name. Robin I think totally awesome superhero, one of the founders of the Teen Titans, willing to sacrifice his or her life for justice... and d**k Grayson, the first robin, was my childhood crush... of course I suppose he did ditch the name Robin and go on to be Nightwing but that is more that Bruce Wayne has some jerk tendencies... Besides, back in Hawkinge the entire police force called me 'Ron' or 'Ronnie'... should I feel less girly because of that? It is just a name... besides face it, your 12 or 13 now you don't get to talk about how manly you are."

She smiled as she looked around the shop noting the redheaded shopkeeper who was flipping through the Daily Prophet. Turning she said pointing at Theo and said, "It's decided: I'm calling you Robin from now on. I like it better."

Then she crossed her arms and let out a sigh as Theo-no Robin, she was totally calling him Robin now- she listened to him explain her warning came too late, he wasn't going to play a sport-then again last year he did leave try-outs with a parting middle finger, and that he was determined to avoid Alex at all costs. "One, since you are taking so many electives you can get approval to drop an elective if you want, then again like I said the class is interesting and I just ignore his rule where he claims to always be right but follow the others so perfectly and do such good work Professor Harley I don't think has caught on. Two, I know how you feel about quidditch... but you really shouldn't have left like you did with a middle finger salute... then again you leaving so early made you miss out on my humble apology to everyone: I bowed and everything. I'm trying out this year only because I told Jacob that I would, and I can't break my word, I mean that's one of my few good qualities. And finally, why try to avoid her if it doesn't bother you? Anyways, I generally do my studying in the library, so you could come there if you wanted, but there is an alternative..."

"Actually there are several, you can do the mature thing and try to talk it out with her... or you could make the places she goes that you also go so uncomfortable for her to be that she'll have to find new haunts... or you could make it clear as it could get that Alex is old news and it doesn't bother you-get another significant other or make arrangements that it would look like that, besides it is fairly easy for rumors to spread, especially if you try," Ronna said with a shrug as she pulled out her textbook list from her bag. "Anyways, do you have your supply list with you and what text books you need?"

♜My wand is Inflexible, 13 inches, Laurel, with a Dragon Heartstring Core and Slightly Knobby

♜I am the daughter of the late Officer Brian Kiss. My mother? Does it matter... she left before I remember and now comes back when she feels guilty after making a new family I want no part of and the divide is too great to bridge if I even tried... The problem is there is no erasing the past and you can only move forward and so I will...
♜Yet, this summer, I shall do my reflection in my own way... gather my thoughts, keep busy, and move forward-it was always a possibility and Dad had planned ahead properly. Be thankful for what you had, right? And, of course, trust that in the end justice will always win.

Theo listened to her speak, not really understanding much at all because he was not really familiarized with batman at all. He never was brought up to batman, but he did know somewhat about it. He did know Robin and Batman of course, but nothing really past that. "And much like him...I changed from Robin to an even better name," he said to her, shrugging his shoulder. "Please don't call me Robin. I don't like it. There's another reason though. I find it hard to forgive my real parents for leaving me. I don't want to be called Robin because it reminds me that I was probably a mistake," he said to her, looking away for a bit, upset by the thought. He had never told anyone the other reason why he was named Theo. He figured he should do it now because no one has ever decided to call him Robin like this. He didn't want to be called that.

"I'm not going to drop anything. I'm just going to keep my classes and wing it!" he told her, smiling. "And I definitely don't know what I'm doing about Alex, because I truly am irritated with the bloody girl. She really gets to me...and the whole fact that she slapped me in the face still gets to me. Sorry if I seem stuck on it. I'm really not. It just confuses me on how she could bring herself to do that. "And I do...right here," he said, handing her the list.

I hated every minute of training, but I said, 'Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.

(OOC: Just assume it's a list of books. I have no idea what's on it. I have the classes he's taking saved somewhere. Trying to find it.)
