Okay, well. That had honestly been better than Chariklo had expected. Sure, the punches were wild and lacking in power, but Canopus had at least tried. That counted for a lot.
"Next lesson," Chariklo spoke calmly, as if she were simply commenting on the weather. "It's great that you tried to fight back, but if someone if coming at you full throttle, you need to learn how to block and keep 'em from getting in a hit on you. And try to not show your panic. Once they sense that fear, you're done for."
She stepped back and this time, slowed down her punches to give Canopus a chance to see what she was doing and how. Sure, she was still attacking, but it was educational attacking.
"Okay, now, just watch me and try to block or deflect my hits."

Once again Canopus forced her eyes open and she wasn’t sure if she had even managed a hit or how strong it might have been. Chariklo seemed unphased, but she didn’t look unhappy either, so perhaps she was doing better than she thought? She paused in her haphazard swings and stood still as Chariklo went over the next lesson, grabbing her braided ponytail and throwing it behind her shoulders though she wasn’t sure why. She was so nervous!
The next lesson was defense… and that relieved Canopus some. She could defend herself, right? Keep up a good defense and no one could hurt her. Yes, this was something that Canopus felt much more comfortable about , though the whole ‘sense your fear’ thing did send her back off kilter. Could they really do that? “I’ll try my best not to show my fear… I promise, my absolutely best!”
It was all she could promise. She held her arms up at Chariklo’s prompt, bobbing her head up and down rapidly. She was ready… well, ready as she’d ever be! “Um… come at me now, I’m ready!”

Well, the girl was willing. As far as Chariklo was concerned, that meant she's probably be a reasonably quick study. And once Canopus called out, she was moving, fists lashing out. Out of pity and a desire to not have her student run screaming into the night, the senshi of seagulls chose Canopus' stomach and chest as her targets. For such a beginner, she reasoned that the other girl would have an easier time blocking and be less likely to panic than if Chariklo had gone for her face.
Once she was more comfortable, they'd pick up speed and Chariklo would stop being quite so nice.

The mirror senshi of Longevity had no idea that Chariklo was holding back and intentionally moving at a slowed pace, so when she was able to dodge the blows, she couldn't help but feel her confidence beginning to swell within her chest. A dodge here, a block there... perhaps fighting wasn't so scary after all?Of course fighting others out there would be different and she knew not to expect leniency, but still, it was nice that Chariklo wasn't completely willing to mop the floor with her just yet.
"Um, Chariklo..." She spoke up, lifting her arms and hoping to block another punch as she did so. "Will I be fighting often? Are our enemies really be that violent when they see one of us?"
Maybe now was a bad time to ask as it would only continue to show her ignorance, but she had to know. Just how hated was their court in the eyes of their enemy? Was it a strict attack on sight basis, or would there be a chance to talk?Twilight Jaws I'm sorry for the length of the post! <3

Sunset eyes began to glow with pride as Canopus asked questions. She was thinking! As far as Chariklo was concerned, this girl was on the right track. Grunting a little as her latest blow to the other girl's chest was blocked, she began to speed up her moves just a touch and to start aiming random blows at new places like Canopus' arms, shoulders and hips.
"Truth? It depends on who you run into," she replied. "Some of 'em are happy to just talk and exchange basic information. Y'know, like who and what they are. Some of 'em will be a little harder and you'll probably end up fighting just because of the whole Chaos and Order thing, but they won't be as gung ho to try and end you. And well, no sense in sugar-coating," she kept her voice purposely neutral as she continued.
"Some of 'em will want to fight or kill you on sight just because. This is why you 'n me are doing this right now so you'll have a shot at surviving long enough to find yourself a mirror to jump through."
As they sparred, Chariklo made a mental note to find a way to make a map of some of the mirrors she knew of for Canopus. Couldn't hurt.

She was moving faster now, faster and faster and Canopus wasn’t sure she’d be able to keep up with it for much longer, but she knew she had to try her best. The enemy wouldn’t be kind and slow with her like Chariklo was… some blows she couldn’t block or dodge and they definitely hurt, but Canopus kept at it, wincing and letting out a pained gasp but going back when the fists didn’t look like they were going to ever stop.
All the while, she took in as much information as she could, trying to fill her head with as much knowledge as she could though it was still much to fathom for a single sitting. Not that it was overly complex of a matter, she tried to tell herself, but it was simply hard for her to fathom an idea of someone just wanting to outright kill her just because of what she chose to be. It just seemed… silly. Pointless. Why hate someone for what they wanted to be? How wrong was it to be part of the Dark Mirror Court?
“Well… I hope I never run into that last group. But if I do, at least you’d have prepared me…” She said, meekly, breathless and a little winded but she tried to carry on, so that Chariklo would be proud of her. “I promise, I won’t let you down… I’ll do my best to hold my own and get out of there.”

Nodding, Chariklo noted that Canopus' reaction times were starting to get a little slower. Rather than push her to complete exhaustion, the blonde took a step back and smiled.
"How could you let me down," she asked, giving the other girl a wink. "You're trying and you're actually thinking and not bitching about it. Not everyone has to be a brawler like me or a complete bad-a** like Leto. We all have our own strengths, y'know?"
Glancing up at the sky, Chariklo seemed to be considering her next words.
"Hey if the Boy Scout motto is Be Prepared, no reason why we can't swipe it for ourselves, right? Preparation is a hugely useful thing to have. Now," her voice went from soft and thoughtful to crisp. "Before I leave you for the night, I've got a list of mirrors for you. Some of them are in questionable areas, but I check 'em regularly to make sure they're still safe for us. How good are you at memorizing?"
A crooked smile was aimed at Canopus as Chariklo began to rattle off the locations of various mirrors around the city. Always better to be prepared.ChibiGingi I think we can wrap this one if you want ♥

She didn't want to say anything aloud, but she was definitely pleased when Chariklo had called it a night. Physical education was never really her strong point and she got winded quickly, but she knew that with training that would come to her. Maybe she wouldn't be as strong or fit as Chariklo, but she'd be useful to her court. She was determined to be! "T-thank you... I'll find my place in this court. I just know it!"
As Chariklo's words, she nodded, ignoring the sweat at her neck and taking comfort in such a motto, thoroughly knowledgeable of the term thanks to her time volunteering along side them. "Last I checked they were perfectly fine with lending their motto and help to others, so I'm sure they won't mind. Thank you again, for helping me prepare..."
And then Chariklo began to list off locations, and while Canopus felt she was good at memorizing locations, she couldn't help but wish she had brought a notepad. The minute she got home, she'd scribble these down... as well as think of a way to give back to Chariklo. She knew it wasn't necessary, but it wouldn't be in Canopus' nature not to thank someone in her own fashion. But that would have to wait until later... for now, she had locations to memorize!Twilight Jaws Sounds good to me! Thank you so much for the RP!

" 'Course you will," Chariklo spoke reassuringly, still pleased by Canopus' eagerness. And don't worry. You'll be just fine."
She tapped her chin as she tried to think if she'd missed any mirrors before laughing a little and smacking herself in the forehead.
"I'm an idiot. If you forget where a mirror is, you can call me up on your compact too. I probably should have thought of that before I started to rattle off. Sorry about that."
Indeed, she looked incredibly sheepish for not realizing this sooner. Still, it was getting late and they both needed to get back to their homes. Grinning, Chariklo gave the other girl a half-hug and a promise to check up on her soon before making her way towards home. Canopus would be all right, she decided. Kid just needed a little more confidence in herself and given time, she'd have plenty of that.
